Relais La Ghinghetta is the best kind of romantic boutique hotel. It is small, with nine rooms, and perfectly situated on the water's edge (we had our own little cove beach and view), our room was sparkling white and clean, and the staff was friendly and accomodating to us at every turn. The professionalism and pleasure that they exude is a comfort and joy for the weary traveler to experience. The brunch menu served each morning is perfectly conceived and the love devoted to the delicious baked goods gave us a real feel for the Sicilian culture. The music of the crashing waves and the cool ocean breeze still soothes my memory. We had a MOST memorable day biking Sant'Antioco island and taking ferry to Carloforte on San Pietro for lunch. This is a magical place and we will return.

Stayed here 5 nights while on our honeymoon! The best combination of modern yet traditional, the friendliest staff, amazing breakfast, epic sea views and great location. SO happy we made this our home base while we drove to different beaches and sites!

The people were really nice and helpful. Stayed there after 25 hrs of traveling and it was a great way to unwind and get into vacation mode. Great room with a beautiful view. Nice little beach right there. Breakfast on the rooftop was great also. We will go back!

We stayed for 2 nights and wished we had stayed longer. The staff are friendly and attentive. Rodney was so lovely and made us some amazing cocktails and the most delicious antipasto platter I have ever eaten. Our room was beautiful and had a small balcony overlooking the ocean. The beach bags and beach towels were a great touch also. (Reception have beach umbrellas to use which we loved also.) The rooftop bar and dining area are so incredibly beautiful and there perfect spot to have an afternoon drink as the sun sets. The little cove at the front of the hotel is the perfect spot for a swim and sun bake. Portoscuso is a cute little town with some nice restaurant options. I can't really think of any negatives, our stay was perfect.

The hotel was set in a lovely location in Portoscuso over a bay. There is a small beach below the hotel and it’s very cute and literally a hop, skip and a jump away. The staff in La Ginghetta were really lovely and super helpful. The hotel is very small, which I loved, and the service overall was good. There were a few things that we didn’t feel lived up to our expectations. The room was on the small side and the view was not directly looking on to the sea but had a street view. It was advertised as a side sea view but that description was a bit of a stretch. There was a drainage problem in the bathroom which was really not pleasant however I did bring this up a few times on the first day and the smell became gradually offensive by the morning. After chasing it up again the staff responded and looked into it. The smell did improve and the cleaner kept on top of the issue. Not sure what it was, due to the language barrier, but believe it was a drain issue and they are aware of it. There were ants in the bathroom and when on the roof top I could see the ant trail going into the vents of the hotel. These issues did cause some stress and can be the make or break of a holiday. If we could have moved rooms this would have been the best outcome however the hotel was fully booked. The breakfast was included in the price but the lack of a la carte options were a disappointment. The dining room staff did not have a strong grasp of English and we didn’t have a strong grasp of Italian so we struggled to order items on the menu. I was surprised the breakfast offer was so limited. When I ordered a fried egg it came with no toast and there were no options for things like smashed avo etc. However we made the most of our time and went out exploring the Island most days. On the plus side the evening menu at the restaurant was very nice and we had a lovely meal on our first night there with octopus and beef medallions and classic tiramisu for desert. The siesta is well and truly alive in Sardinia and restaurants/shops close everyday from 1430 till 1900ish. We got caught out a few times with this in the local area. Porta Pinto, in the South of the island has a gorgeous stretch of beach with cute bars/restaurants. The beach chairs/umbrellas are really well priced along with drinks. If booking La Ginghetta for your stay then temper expectations of the breakfast offer and room 101. The are bigger rooms which look on to the sea and there is one suite too which looks stunning. Overall our experience of the hotel was ok, Portoscuso is a sleepy village and the island of Sardinia is gorgeous, chilled with yummy food!

Beautiful hotel with a n absolute gem of a restaurant. Fantastic chef making exquisite dishes, fantastic staff. Worth travelling far to have dinner here and perhaps a cocktail on the rooftop afterwards.
