The George Hotel

The property is very convenient for National Trust visits, and onsite parking behind the premises is very convenient. Check in until 10pm is handy too as we arrived at 21:59 due to traffic conditions. I already knew that if we were in the attic that our room would likely be sub-par. We were, and it was. The attic landing is musty, doors and ceilings very low, very much feeling like servants quarters. the hotel management are making an effort with redecoration, but this cannot hide the fact that fixtures and fittings need replacing too. Water pressure is so low in the attic that showering is impossible, so set the bath running ahead of time if you want to be clean. My booking showed a photo of a four-poster bed - nope, a double pushed up against the wall for no apparent reason is what we had in a room big enough to be laid out better. We paid under £45 on this occasion, and at that price would stay again. The Italian Restaurant on the ground floor serves breakfast nice and early. To check out, simply drop your key in the box outside the building.

Pleasant enough staff. Room was about what you would expect for the price paid. Shower and bath were very good. Room was just ok. Very bad penetrating damp problem in one corner really needs a dressing. My bed was broken but I didn’t know until I got in it at 11pm so just had to live with it. Not much else in the area without paying top level prices so would . You bet what you pay for I guess

Soaking wet wall, mould on curtain, tiniest tv ever, basin had no plug, no lamp, only the bathroom to fill kettle, nothing to keep bottled water or drinks cold, springs in mattress dug in me, no one on site at night. Room 5. Avoid most definitely

I needed a one night stay in Battle, and was very pleased that I chose the George Hotel in the High Street (booking only a couple of days before, I had a reduced price). The room was very good, with a comfortable double bed, crisp sheets and good pillows. I slept very well. There was free parking in the former inn yard - my room was on the first floor and overlooked the area, and I did not hear any traffic noise from the High Street. The bathroom was very clean and had everything I needed. The George came into new ownership only four months ago and has obviously been updated. Eddy in Reception could not have been more helpful. I would certainly stay there again and can recommend it to others.

👍🏼Located on the high street. 4 pubs (1 was shut) 2 restaurants that I saw. Went to the Indian restaurant, curry was very nice & filling. We didn’t book, but they managed to fit us in. I’d advise to book in advance. Nice room, (room 11) had a 4 poster bed, fridge, tea, coffee facilities with biscuits & bottles of water. Comfortable king size bed. Bathroom nice size, had a shower, but no bath. Fan in the room, weekend we stayed was warm so we used it! A few pubs on the 👎🏼Toilet didn’t flush properly. Shower had no pressure, but was hot. View was off the car park. TV kept on turning itself off, also took a couple of seconds to change channel & volume.

My daughter and I have just come back from a 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. Very reasonably priced. The staff were very efficient, the room was clean, comfortable and tidy! The Italian Restaurant was amazing 🤩 The only downside was the Wi-Fi - Non existent. 4/5 - and we will definitely stay there again 👍

Lovely little place. Was in room 7. Clean, tidy & comfortable. Had kettle, tea, coffee etc in room. They give u full Fat milk, but co-op is just down the road if tou want different milk like i did. Reception guy was lovely. Disabled bay opposite

I am extremely impressed with this charming and historic property which boasts a truly majestic interior with perhaps one of the most surprisingly exquisite staircases and rooftop skylights to be seen. The aesthetic is both comfortable and decadent, and given the high street location, and modest price range, I have no qualms given said service to fee ratio. I booked last minute for a Saturday night with the intention of visiting nearby monuments, and I was welcomed by an ensuite room with all the necessary amenities. Towels, shampoo and soaps were provided and the room contained a kettle, alongside teas and coffee, a hairdryer, wardrobe with hangars, a television and ample lighting. I would recommend 100%, and I hope to return soon :)
