A budget-friendly self-catering retro inn in the style of the Showa era, conveniently located near Atami Station
"It takes about 7 minutes to walk from the station to the hotel, which is convenient and passes through the shopping street along the way, with convenience stores nearby! There is an Aeon supermarket about 7 minutes walk! The room I stayed in was an attached bathroom toilet, a one-staircase room in the building opposite the guesthouse, family-style guesthouse, the room was comfortable and felt like home, clean and well-equipped! The refrigerator can store ice cream. Only in a few degrees of weather, it was a bit cold in the shower 🤣! Breakfast to cross back to the guesthouse 2nd floor to enjoy, noodles + coffee / tea, the owner's grandmother is very friendly, also recommended us to nearby attractions to see plum blossoms, Atami cherry blossoms, Laimiya Shrine and evening fireworks, and taught us how to walk and ride, afraid we do not understand Japanese, and use the mobile phone program for translation! Will consider staying again if I have the chance to visit Atami again."

Very Good
DDayusangThe room was very big. We took three baths in the hot springs and it was very comfortable. Remember to include breakfast and dinner next time, otherwise it will be difficult to find food in Yugawara.
GGudaohudieThe room was larger than in Tokyo, with complete facilities, and very close to the station, a 5-minute walk.
There are direct train stations right outside the door to the Museum of Modern Art (MOA) and Kiunkaku. The MOA is worth a visit. Kiunkaku is less well-known.
The room had a sea view, and both smoking and non-smoking rooms were available. Soundproofing was good. The bed was also large enough.
JJiushiaidaochupaoWe stayed in a Japanese-style room on the third floor. It was spacious and bright, and the view was amazing. Most importantly, it was super clean, and the smart bathroom was fantastic and brand new. I'm tempted to get one for my own home, especially the deep basin.
The host was incredibly nice. We arrived early, checked in with our luggage, and then headed to Atami to watch the fireworks festival. We checked in again when we returned. The air conditioning was on, and our suitcases were already in the room. We apologized for the heavy luggage. We had initially planned to leave it downstairs and bring a change of clothes upstairs.
After confirming our check-out time the next day, the host offered to drive us to the station, considering the uphill climb. Such a thoughtful gesture.
Highly recommend this place.
A few tips: Izu and Atami are full of slopes and stairs, so don't bring a large suitcase like I did. Remember!
It gets really dark at night, so bring a flashlight.
BBosco FungIt was my first time to search for a hotel by car. It was very difficult to find a hotel. I couldn’t find the two hotels on the left. I searched Google Maps and couldn’t find the location. I passed three hotels in a row and there were no signs on the roadside.
The staff at the two nearby restaurants always have people asking for directions😆😆
Old-style hotel, you have to carry luggage on the first floor
The front desk staff is friendly and kind.
The restaurant is nice
AAnonymous UserGood:
1. It’s close to station
2. The view from the rooftop is insanely beautiful (I’m sure you can get such a view from other hotels too though)
3. There’s a “living room” area for you to hang out with others but it seems to always be occupied by a group of people
Bad:
1. There is NO light from station to the stay, so if you’re walking at night it’s REALLY scary and eerie
2. They charge for everything lmao
GGuest UserI experienced the Japanese-style room, but there was no shower facility in the room. I had to go to the bathhouse on the third floor, which was a different experience. I could get a ride to JR Atami Station in the morning. The road in Atami was ups and downs. It was close to the seaside. It was very pleasant to walk along the seaside in the evening.
GGuest UserIt was a quaint, cozy hotel situated close to JR Atami Station. The hotel has very good food for both dinner and breakfast! The staff are friendly and even though they can't speak good English, they tried their best to communicate to the best of their knowledge and I really appreciate it! I especially enjoyed my time at the onsen on the rooftop, it has good facilities.
The only thing is the cleanliness of the room, since there is still water in the kettle from the previous guests, I didn't want to drink any water from the kettle because of it. They should replace it with a new kettle or clean it. Otherwise, the room is also very cozy, they give yukatas for guests to wear them around the hotel and they also offer free transport to JR Atami station. Otherwise, I would have struggled to get around since there is lack of public transportation at Atami!
I still have a very good time and enjoyed my time because of the friendly staff at the hotel, they are very helpful! 10/10 will come back again with my friends or family in the future.
GGuest UserI originally planned to go from Shimizu to Nagano, but later I felt that the journey was too tiring so I booked this hotel temporarily.
The number of reviews is actually not usually considered by me.
I was quite hesitant to make the bed myself after seeing the reviews about the taste.
But considering the price and room size of Atami Hotel, I still think this hotel is good value for money.
Actual stay experience:
The sanitary conditions are in line with the expectations of Japanese hotels and are quite clean.
In terms of transportation, it is a bit inconvenient. It is not far from the station, but because of the characteristics of Atami as a mountain city, it is very inconvenient to drag suitcases in the hotel south of Atami. I was exhausted with two suitcases on the first day, especially when I was in a hurry.
The facilities are indeed old, but it's just like that after getting used to it. The small TV is a problem, but moving the table over, it's not bad for the family to watch TV at night. It's a bit troublesome to make the bed yourself, but it's also fun, and it's relatively easy to put on the quilt.
In terms of service, the money I needed to pay was calculated incorrectly at the beginning, and I spent a lot of time at the front desk, and the attitude of the aunt with glasses was not particularly friendly, which is a minus point.
Hot springs are a big plus. Self-service free booking is very convenient. You can scan the QR code to see where there are vacancies and go directly. If it is a day-return hot spring, the booking is very expensive.
Overall, it is a good stay experience. It is like the Japanese apartment in Japanese dramas. The space is also open, and there is a microwave and refrigerator.
It is worth recommending.
RrptshaIt can be seen that there are hotels that are old, and the facilities are relatively old. Like door keys, switches, sockets, and toilets, these look like the standard of a domestic 3-star hotel more than ten years ago. Because it is related to the beach, the room is a damp musty smell as soon as it enters, but there is a purifier in the room. It is not easy to book a room on the night of the fireworks conference, although the price may have doubled 3 times compared to the usual price. The room rate includes 2 large and 1 small, one berth and two meals, and 3 people have made the bed and put toiletries.
Breakfast and dinner are buffets. It is best to make an appointment with the hotel in advance for dinner. We don’t know. We went to the scene and were told that there was a second 20 o’clock. Fortunately, our driver sister and the front desk softly grinded hard and said that we were going to the beach to see the fire. We were transferred to the first session at 18:30. Although the quality of the buffet is not much, it tastes very good, especially fried shrimp, egg fried rice, steak. Soft drinks and beer are also free, and the meal time is 70 minutes.
After dinner, there are two roads from the hotel to the hydrophilic park google map, one passing through Atami Ginza, there are many people and cars and shops to walk slowly. If you want to feel lively, you can go here. We chose a path with steps along the river. It is not tired to go downhill to the beach. It takes about 12 or 3 minutes to get to the hydrophilic park. It is just right to see the fireworks here. If you don't want to go to the beach, there is also a terrace on the 5th floor of the hotel (you can see a sign on the same day), but it will be blocked by the front building.
Be optimistic about the fire back to the hotel, you can also go to the large bathhouse on the 2nd floor to take a bath and soak in the hot springs, comfortable. The latest admission time for breakfast the next day is 9 o'clock.
PPumpkinOverall, it could be rated excellent as a local ryokan but may not be ready for international clients. It has won Rakuten bronze award 2023. I am particular about smoking and the non smoking room was full of smoky smell. Also surprised that I have to set up my own tatami bed etc. Staff dependent on google translate but stranded when there's no WiFi. They could have translated common phrases in text. Nice garden.
