DDon AWe struck gold with this one. Amazing location, right by the main bus station and very near the Chuo train station. Super clean, comfortable and it has luggage storage that can be used for free for gusts who come too early or have extra time to explore after checking out.

KKHop5mins' walk to Kagoshimachuo Station. Could hear trains passing by now and then but it doesn't really affect sleep. Polite staff. We stayed for two nights and got slightly different breakfast options each morning which is a plus!

Aa350ryomaThis hotel's location is super convenient, right in the heart of the Tenmonkan area, with the tram stop directly in front. It's walking distance to the bustling downtown and plenty of restaurants, so exploring and dining out was a breeze. The hotel and rooms felt new and clean, making for a very comfortable stay. The artificial carbonated hot spring in the public bath was fantastic for soothing away travel fatigue. I especially enjoyed the breakfast on the top floor, with amazing views of Sakurajima while savoring dishes made with local ingredients. The staff were also very attentive and polite. Overall, I'd say this is a highly satisfying hotel.

GGuest UserThe hotel is located in the Planetarium area, with an airport bus stop directly diagonally opposite. It's also just over a 10-minute walk to South Pier. Our twin room was a decent size, with enough space to open two 28-inch suitcases. The room offered a good view, but unfortunately, the windows don't open. In the bathroom, the water pressure was strong and the drain worked well, but the water temperature was a bit hard to adjust, fluctuating between hot and cold. There's a lip into the bathroom that felt a bit wobbly, so care is needed when stepping on it. The bathtub's material and design weren't ideal, which older guests should particularly note. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and dining options. Sukiya is right next door, and there's a well-established unagi (eel rice) restaurant nearby that serves delicious food. The hotel's cleanliness was alright, but I did find some hair. It seems the standards aren't quite comparable to what they were years ago when local staff were responsible for room upkeep, a difference perhaps influenced by the increasing presence of foreign workers in many cities. The front desk is on the second floor, and most services are semi-self-service, with self-service luggage lockers available.

AAnonymous UserI often travel to Japan, and Dormy Inn rooms always seem to be in high demand. The 20+ sqm twin rooms, perfect for two adults and one child, are usually impossible to book. So, when I saw this room type available in Kagoshima, I decided to book it for one night. Overall, my experience fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, neither adult could enjoy the onsen (hot springs) for personal reasons, which is arguably the hotel's main highlight – a real shame. The room itself was a bit small, and while cleanliness was decent, the toilet emitted a persistent garlic-like odor. On the positive side, the dining options were excellent. Breakfast featured Kagoshima's special black pork shabu-shabu and a type of sashimi. Complimentary ice cream and Yakult were available all day in the lounge on the hot spring floor, and free soy sauce ramen was served after 9:30 PM. Given these amenities, I'd say it's best suited for adults who plan to fully utilize the onsen facilities. What truly made the stay less than ideal wasn't just my inability to use the onsen. More significantly, during check-in, the front desk informed me that my reservation did not include a 3-year-old child, resulting in an additional charge for the child's accommodation and meals. This wasn't the hotel's fault, and honestly, I'm not sure who to blame. I distinctly remember booking for two adults and one child, so I'm puzzled about what went wrong in the process. Perhaps Dormy Inn and I simply weren't a good match this time. I'm well aware that Japanese hotels charge per person, so I always meticulously enter the correct number of guests and compare prices across different platforms when booking in Japan. Having visited Japan over a dozen times, this was the first instance where I was charged extra at check-in due to a discrepancy in the number of guests. I was quite surprised when informed about the booking error. Checking my Trip.com confirmation on my phone at the front desk, I saw it indeed only listed two adults. I can only fault myself for never reviewing the confirmation after booking; moving forward, I'll be sure to check them carefully to catch and correct any issues promptly. After reporting this to Trip.com customer service, they responded quickly and later reimbursed me half of the additional cost. During this trip, both hotels I booked through Trip.com had unexpected additional charges at check-in. Besides the Dormy Inn incident, another hotel in Fukuoka charged a separate accommodation tax. Interestingly, I booked a different hotel in Fukuoka on another platform, and its price already included this tax, so I didn't pay anything extra upon arrival. Moving forward, when booking hotels in Japan, I'll have to carefully consider if the lowest price offered on certain platforms might be due to hidden fees.

WWendykao3I didn't get to fully explore Kagoshima this time, but I'll definitely go back and do it properly. This hotel was just a stopover for me to catch a baseball game, so I picked one near the station that offered good value for money. It was quite comfortable with a stylish vibe, right in the middle of the shopping area, and only about a 3-5 minute walk to the station. There are plenty of great places to explore around the station, and you can also take the city loop bus to nearby attractions.

AAnonymous UserI was impressed by the friendly staff, all of whom had the biggest smiles. Kagoshima Chuo Station is about a 20-minute walk away, straight along the main street in front of the hotel. The breakfast buffet featured a wide variety of local Kagoshima ingredients and traditional dishes, as well as a wide selection of sweets, making it a delightful experience from the start of the day.

GGuest UserIt’s only a 6-minute walk from Kagoshimachuo Station! I stayed in the Tatami Room which can be relatively small for people with big luggages. Like other hostels, the toilets, shower rooms, and common space are shared among the floor. However, I do find the shower area a little small. Many of us wouldn’t enter the shower area if somebody was using the sink because the sink was right in front of one shower cubicle HAHAHA. And yes, there’s only one sink in the common shower area. I would recommend this place if you are doing a short stay in Kagoshima because there’s lots of shops and restaurants around the area! By the way, it’s located along the same lane as the famous “tonkatsu kawakyu とんかつ川久”. Please try it because it’s the best tonkatsu I’ve ever eaten!

GGuest UserThe hotel is located near restaurants and drug stores in Tenmonkan, and there is a convenience store below the hotel, which was great. Breakfast includes toast, coffee, and yogurt, and we were able to get to the Kagoshima Aquarium Io World by car right next to the hotel.

MMorimorizuMCheck-out was at 12 o'clock, so I was able to relax. Thank you. It was close to Tenmonkan, so it was very safe and convenient to go drinking and eating. Next time, I'd like to shop at Donki and use the kitchen.
