Though it's a historic building, the hotel is beautifully maintained and exudes a majestic charm. I loved finding historical pieces and displays around every corner.
We stayed for three nights in two different rooms. The first was an economy room, which offered great value with all essentials provided, even a small bathtub, although it lacked windows. The second room was incredibly spacious, featuring a large balcony with views of lush greenery.
The location, perched on a hill, might not be the most convenient, but the hotel provides frequent shuttle buses to Jian Tan station (near Shilin Market) and Yuan Shan. The shuttle ride takes about 10 minutes.
On our last day, I bought their delicious winter melon cubes, which are amazing when steeped in Oolong tea—simply heavenly!
Overall, it was a delightful stay, and I’d gladly return.

If you want to stay at this hotel, you need to be able to tolerate bad attitudes.
I checked in at night, and the receptionist was a man in his 50s or 60s with a constant scowl. He was very rude, acting as if I was the one serving him, and seemed ready to lash out at any moment.
After dropping my luggage in the room, I went to a convenience store. As I passed by the front desk, he didn't greet me (which is fine), but glared at me like a ********. I was very polite and couldn't understand why he behaved like that at work.
I thought he was the only one like this, but the next morning, when I went to the front desk to extend my stay (because my flight was canceled due to a typhoon), the receptionist named Ally also had a scowl. My goodness, what kind of terrible hotel is this? I asked him something, and he seemed clueless, so he went to the back to ask someone. His colleague came out to help, but with the same impatient expression and harsh tone.
This is the most unfriendly front desk I've ever encountered. If you enjoy dealing with bad attitudes, feel free to challenge yourself by staying here.

The newly renovated hotel has new and clean equipment and good service staff. It's a pity that because it has just been renovated, there is still a slightly heavy smell of formaldehyde in the room, which is not very pleasant to the sense of smell. However, the new decoration is unavoidable, so the smell can only gradually fade away.

We really loved the pub that is under the hotel, which had daily free beer perks if you patronised them! The beers were really refreshing and yummy! Our stay came with breakfast, which was not bad, but you wouldn't really want to have hotel breakfast every day when there is so much to eat in Taipei. We also loved the hotel concept and would totally return again! Thank you PapaWhale for being a place we want to go back to, after a long day of exploring, every day!

Roughly 5 mins walk to XMD H&M.
Room is fairly size in XMD (Near) considered those at XMD to be very small in room sq ft.
Lots of tour bus bringing their costumer staying in this hotel, so do expect for long Breakfast Q in the morning.
Sound proof not very good as well, students next room is making lots of noises in the middle of the night and clearly can be heard.

Business travelers can make full use of a 24-hour business center on the first floor and conference rooms on the second floor. When you get some free time, spend it relaxing in the sauna, exercising in the gym or refreshing your mind in the Air Garden.
Tthatfoodieagent2024.11.14
When we booked the hotel we did not realise that Da'An was a Taipei foodies' haunt! When we started to run through our MUST EAT LIST we discovered for example that the most famous bean curd place was 200 m from the hotel! It's a small hotel but located just a short walk from the metro station.
My wife liked the added security of the rooms facing inwards to a open central atrium. The WiFi however was really very laggy and unusable. Hope they all improve but the time I visit again.
The only thing I didn't like was having to pay 200 TWD for having misplaced one of the room cards. Most hotels I stay at around the world don't even bother to ask for it to be returned these days.

We stayed at this hotel for our quarantine stay (3+4). This hotel was the highest priced quarantine hotel in Taipei. As Taiwan is moving away from quarantine, it is unclear whether this hotel will remain a quarantine hotel. Provided meals: Three meals were provided. I believe they rotated it somewhat. I would give them 4 stars overall. They were of mid-to-high end quality, but certainly not Michelin star or 5-star hotel restaurant's quality. That is, I had much better at The Regent or The Sheraton Taipei. That said, there was a microwave in the room for one to heat up the meals to a warmer setting as the meals were prepared in bulk at the lobby. They were lukewarm when the meals arrived in our room. It appeared some meals were prepared by the hotel restaurant and others were from outside sources. The meals were *********, Korean, and Japanese focused. If one wants Western foods, then Food Panda or Uber Eats will be what you want. There are expensive local restaurants at Xinyi Districts that you can pay for to get your own food. Check with the hotel on delivery times, I believe that they won't refund the costs of the meals if one chooses not to eat the prepaid meals. Prior to booking the quarantine hotel, they will send one a form to ask for some preferences and/or allergies. There was a toaster and hot water boiler in the room. The drip coffee and tea packets were super flavorful and refilled (via Line or other means of contact) during our stay. In fact, most contacts were done remotely during the quarantine period. Room: This is what one is paying for in this place if one is stuck here for 8 days (landing day is Day 0). The bed and beddings were super comfortable. The bed was a full king, My room was in the smaller side, but sufficient for two people and eight pieces of luggage. The room was super clean. We know, because we tried wiping some areas and found them to be stainless. We also noticed, via the peephole, that housekeeping took over two hours to deep clean our neighbor's room - including the use of what appeared to be an ultraviolet wand to clean some service areas. There was a clothes-wire in the bathroom if one needed to do handwash laundry during the quarantine stay. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't provide any detergent, but we used the provide soap, The bathroom was large with rain showerhead available. The toilet was a bit too high up off the floor for us as we are around 5 ft 8 inches but flushed well. If one's room faced south or east, one would get a good view of Taipei 101. The south side would get a full view, and east side (our room) got the view from the couch in the ”living room” area. The TV was pretty large and we could watch it from our bed comfortably. The only complaint, if any, was that it didn't have as many international channels for this high-end hotel. I wanted Bloomberg, but nothing was offered. Not even CNBC. The WiFi was very fast. The location was convenient. It was near the City Hall MRT (took about 5-7 min

Outstanding
EEricaDear Doubletree by Hilton Taipei,
I would like to offer my compliments to your dedicated team for our very enjoyable stay in your hotel from 3-7 June 2024.
We stayed in rooms 1203 and 1205 and the reservation was made under Ms Erica Tan.
I had stayed in some 5 star hotels such as Shang Ri La Singapore, Westin Singapore, Ritz Carlton Singapore, Kempinski Xiamen to name a few but my stay in Doubletree by Hilton Taipei was one of the most comfortable and pleasant.
The check in by the warm and friendly reception staff was efficient and smooth.
When my daughter accidentally dropped one of the delicious welcome Hilton cookies on the floor, the reception staff quickly replaced it with a warm smile.
When my daughter teared after knowing that there isn’t a swimming pool in the premise, your reception staff, Tina, immediately walked up to us with a map and suggested that we can go to a nearby swimming pool facilities.
Tina also gave us some excellent food suggestions. We had a very satisfying and affordable meal at the Michelin recommended Ji Jia Zhuan ( 鸡家庄), thanks to her recommendation :)
Whenever we return to the hotel from a day of sightseeing, the reception team on duty never failed to greet us in a warm and friendly manner. We felt genuinely welcomed:)
The modern Japandi style rooms and bathrooms are kept in an excellent condition and feel brand new. We especially like how bright, airy and spacious the rooms are.
Kudos to the housekeepers ( Ms Cai Xiu Hui 蔡秀慧阿姨) on level 12 who kept our rooms 1203 and 1205 so clean and comfortable. They always chat amicably with us and confirmed with us if we need any housekeeping service.
The TV entertainment system with its 47 channels ( including TLC, Discovery) , Netflix, YouTube and IQiYi really impressed us.
The semi buffet style daily breakfast sets
( Chinese, Japanese and Western) are healthy and delish and we really looked forward to breakfast every morning.
We hope that Chinese baos (包子)and dim sum pastry such as you tiao ( 油条、蛋饼)can also be offered in future when we next pay a visit to your hotel :)
We would also like to thank your reception staff and housekeepers who helped my mom who stayed in room 1205 on 6 June when the toilet encountered some flushing issues.
My mom had approached the reception staff at around 4 pm on 6 June and the very helpful male reception staff accompanied her to her room and helped remediate the problem along with the housekeeper. She was very impressed by how efficient and friendly your staff were.
All in all, your team has done a great job in our stay. Their service attitude are genuine and warm :) My daughter enjoyed her stay so
much that she kept remarking she would like to extend our stay to 2 more weeks:)
We hope you will pass on the compliments to your team and the staff we named, as a gesture of our appreciation.
CCloud YunnService and cleaning staff are friendly and helpful. Good location, has lift access from Ximen station (walk from underground shopping street). Well-maintained and clean room. Decent hotel breakfast, buffet menu changes a little every day so you won't be bored if you stay for more than three days.
Spacious room with many wall fixtures that enable us to hang clothes. Good hairdryer, water heater works a little too well (water gets heated up really fast so it's difficult to get a nice warm temperature for shower, that's the only downside). We enjoyed our stay there!
GGuest UserThe same excellent service and hospitality as the first time I was here in the late 80s when it was still the iconic Lai Lai Sheraton. Thank you for going the extra mile to make my wife’s birthday memorable with the extra arrangements. Special mention goes to Ellen and the front desk team for taking great care of us.
XXingThe location is great! 5mins walking distance from subway. It will better if they can change the shower head. The restaurant BaHo is high quality!
WwanderwithzoeFrom the moment you step into the hotel, you're greeted by friendly staff, making you feel right at home. Despite being a self check-in process, the staff from the office are quick to assist, ensuring everything goes smoothly. Check-in was efficient and hassle-free.
The room itself was cozy, with just enough space for my 29” luggage opened on the floor. I booked a double bed without windows and was pleasantly surprised to find a bathtub in the bathroom—definitely a nice touch. The bathroom amenities were good, with two types of shower gel in the bathing area and a well-stocked sink with essentials like a toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream and shaver, shower cap, cotton buds, and more. The provided hair dryer was particularly useful. The room is well-equipped with plenty of power points, making it easy to charge all your devices. The sockets are international, so I didn’t even need to use my adaptor—a very convenient feature!
Room service was prompt and the staff were consistently friendly and efficient, changing bath towels daily. There’s also a handy leather-bound reference book in the room to answer any questions you might have.
The only downside is the limited food options directly below the hotel. However, a quick Uber ride (~5SGD) will take you to the popular Fu Hang Soy Milk for a delicious, hearty breakfast, and thereafter you may begin your adventure of the day! For those with large luggage or tired from a long day trip, I recommend using Beimen Station (Exit 2) as it has escalators and is a shorter walk from the hotel as compared to any other exits from Taipei Main Station. Otherwise, UBER is another great option. The hotel is also very near to the Airport Express Line which takes about an hour to the airport.
GGuest UserThe hotel is located at a very strategic place: super near to Taipei station & suitcase friendly.
The nearest exit is Z4, but since the Taipei station is so complicated, I'll suggest getting an exit to the ground first instead of searching Z4 exit underground. It will be wayyyyy easy to locate the hotel.
I booked the no window room, no issue on my side, but need to be careful on setting the alarm since you won't be able to know the time by the sunlight.
And, a noticeable service provided is that they will help you to keep your luggage after you checkout, so for ppl with night flight, it's super convenient to walk around before the flight.
Overall, friendly staff, clean and bright space, strategic location, cheap price, nice place.
LLai We have stay in Star Beauty hotel in Shillin District for 5 nights. We took MRT from aTaoyuan Airport to Taipei Station and have to change MTR Red Line to Jiantan Station and take 10 minutes walk to Star Beauty Hotel. The hotel is far from the City Center Siah Mun Ting.
We stay in Luxury Room and room size is big, bed and pillows are comfortable, air-cond is cooling, water pressure for shower is good, room wi-fi sometime working and sometime no connection. It will take 20 minutes walk to Shillin Night Market.
The hotel is near to jiantan Station and we are easily to take MTR and Buses to move around in Taipei. We will stay again if we go to Taipei in the near future.
BBig BeckerI’ve stayed a lot of places in this has by far been my worst experience in years. I think as far as the location and amenities and the cleanliness everything is fine. But I tried to cancel my booking they refuse because somebody is snoring so loudly I can’t sleep from 2 AM to 7 AM. It’s impossible for me to sleep. so then I finally get a few hours of sleep I’m awake and I am packing my stuff getting ready to leave and they promptly come right at 12 o’clock as I’m already leaving, the system they have in the checkout has them want to charge me. The front desk was pretty rude to me as I was leaving I told them this isn’t fair. Also, as I was leaving, there was a European guy there was working for the place. He was doing his daily activities and I was offering to clean the bathroom by taking out the trash that was overflowing and he freaked out at me and told me to put it back. let’s just say it was a horrible night and even worse but luckily the dumplings that were right outside put me in a better mood. I wasn’t going to leave a review, but I noticed that the Fun Inn (that was nothing but fine. I asked a few people if they were busy they were just sitting around on their phones and they all said they were) had already sent Trip.com a message that I had checked out a couple minutes late. Well, I just wanna let everybody know that this could stay anywhere else other than that place.
PPplyThe hotel was not too far from the train station. The room was pretty small and a bit old but considering the affordable price, i have no complaint.
