Kairakuen

Value for money. We had the sea view tatami room and the view was awesome! Buy your own bento if not full board like us, there’s microwave oven to heat up your food. No convenience store nearby. W

Kairakuen may be a small place but the service is personable and warm. The kaiseki dinner was excellent and the in-room fishing was a one-of-a-kind experience. During our stay typhoon halted train services at Toba station and we almost could not return to Nagoya as planned, but Kairakuen kindly arranged transport to send us to another train station with working train service.

This ryokan has a good view of Toba bay. Its unique offering is that u can rent fishing rods. Guests on level 1 rooms can fish from their windows & others can go outside to do it. Onsen facilities are small & old. Rooms are also pretty run down. The futons are very thin n uncomfortable. Dinner was Matsusaka beef sukiyako and pretty good. Breakfast is simple japanese fare n no coffee is available. Service is inconsistent depending on the staff. I don't consider this place value for money.
