This is the worst starred hotel I've ever stayed in, worse even than those roadside budget inns. With facilities and service like this, it's hard to believe this is a five-star hotel that costs 800 yuan a night. I'd advise anyone traveling to Wuhan to choose a different hotel; this place's rating must be padded.
First, the location. The hotel is near Parrot Island Bridge, quite a distance from attractions like Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street and Yellow Crane Tower. The area around it is also rather desolate, so you have to go quite a ways just to find a place to eat.
I knew it was an old hotel before booking, so I expected the facilities to be a bit dated, but I never imagined they'd be this dilapidated, to the point of being completely unusable. The showerhead couldn't be fixed in place at all; hot water wouldn't come out immediately, you had to let it run for at least a minute. The light switches were also unreliable, working sometimes and not others. At night, I'd have to press the switch several times just to turn off the lights. And then there's the bizarre room layout. I booked a king-size bed room, and there was actually a door connecting to the next room! Although the hotel had blocked it off, the filling inside seemed to be sponge, so when someone stayed next door, it wasn't soundproofed at all, and it made me feel completely unsafe. The hotel advertised a '180° river view,' but upon checking in, it was just a small window. I felt cheated.
For breakfast, there was a relatively large variety, but mostly vegetarian options or pastries. There was little meat, the taste was mediocre, and the fruits weren't fresh.
But the most outrageous thing was the hotel service. The front desk staff at check-in seemed to be sleepwalking. We had already paid when booking through Ctrip, and breakfast was included. Yet, they still asked us for the room fee, and when we inquired about breakfast, they told us our booking didn't include it, until we showed them the Ctrip order. I don't know if the front desk was just unprofessional, or if the hotel deliberately tried to trick us into paying twice. After our first night, we reported the room issues to the front desk, and the staff just kept laughing after hearing our complaints. I have no idea what they found so amusing about such ridiculous room conditions. It wasn't until several hours later that the hotel called, offering to repair the room or change it. The handling speed was too slow, and there was no sincerity in their apology. When we checked out, we accidentally left a phone charger in the room. After returning home, we contacted the hotel to have it mailed back. We agreed to pay for shipping upon delivery, but the hotel was very slow in sending it. Only after I inquired did they tell me that housekeeping hadn't brought it down. I urged them, saying I needed it urgently and to please send it as soon as possible, but almost a day passed, and there was still no movement.
In short, from the hardware facilities to the service, this hotel was utterly terrible. Forget comparing it to other starred hotels; it's not even as good as a budget inn!
