The hotel has a shuttle bus to Yufuin Station
The location is very close to Golden Scale Lake
The hotel is a traditional Japanese architecture two floors high to climb stairs
If you have inconvenient legs and feet, it is best to book a large room on the ground floor
The rooms are very large and the facilities are well maintained. It feels antique but not dilapidated
The meals are rich and the taste is right to taste will also ask in advance if there is a food sensitivity fellow seniors do not eat sashimi will also change the tempura substitute with careful preparation
The bath is not big however there are not many rooms and not too many people use it at the same time

Great hospitality experience from booking until our way back from Yufuin train station. The staff service was 5-star. The hotel is located in the main touristic area but as soon as you step behind the curtain, it is calm and lovely. The room was sparkling clean, with great amenities and comfort. The public/private baths were also great, very clean and no reservation needed. Special mention to the restaurant recommendation, a great dinner spot recommended nearby the hotel.
Strongly recommend to anyone willing to stay in Yufuin.

The hotel is very beautiful, the room is also very big, and I booked a private bath, which is really enjoyable. The most surprising thing is the dinner. I thought it was just a set meal, but it turned out to be very rich, similar to Kaiseki cuisine, with not only various sashimi but also small hot pot, Wagyu barbecue, desserts, etc. I was really full at the end of the meal, and I felt that the room price was instantly halved. Haha. The Japanese breakfast the next day was also very good.
Disadvantages: The transportation and life around the hotel are really inconvenient, and you can only choose hotel dining. There is not even a convenience store at the door. The hotel waiters are a bit short of staff and there is often no one at the front desk. The heating facilities in the lobby are open flames. Although you can't touch the fire inside, the shelves outside are hot, and children are prone to accidental injuries. This is especially important.
Our room with a private bath is on the third floor, there is no elevator, and you need to carry your luggage up the mountain by yourself. If there is no man with you, it will be really tiring.
This hotel has about 30 rooms, which is relatively large in Yufuin. The location is a distance away from Yufuin Railway Station. If you have a lot of luggage, it is recommended to take a taxi. We walked for about 20+ minutes to get there, mainly because the suitcases are not easy to push on the way up the mountain.

The rooms at this ryokan are very spacious and clean. There is no separate shower booth in the room, but there is a sink, and among the three baths on the first floor, the single room (one) has a high turnover rate, so it was not very inconvenient. There was an English-speaking staff, and they were very kind, which was nice. You can check the availability of the open-air hot spring bath on the first floor through a tablet PC in your room and go down to use it. The breakfast buffet, which mainly serves Japanese home-cooked meals, is also excellent. After eating, I recommend taking a walk along the stream in front of the ryokan. If you go to Yufuin, I would definitely recommend this accommodation. The ryokan pub is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and dinner may be closed if you arrive late, so please check in advance.

The hotel environment is very good, the service is also very enthusiastic, the room is large, the courtyard is beautiful, and there are three private baths to choose from. The check-in time in Japan is generally late. The hotel can store luggage in advance, which is very nice. You can also make an appointment for pick-up service, and the service attitude is also great. Because the shops in Yufuin generally close very early, it is recommended to book a room with dinner and breakfast.

Very nice well kept traditional ryokan. If you are expecting modern do not stay here. Hotels like these are older and have been around for many years but are well maintained.
I love sleeping on tatami - I slept for 10 hours!
Unfortunately I felt a bit dumbfounded when the dinner included is just ramen. On the trip.com photos there are two photos of meals and I assumed one was dinner and the other breakfast. Maybe this use to be the case but trip/ the hotel should specify better what is being served. Especially in small towns there aren’t many dinner options - there is an Aeon (supermarket) a short walk of course if you’d like a bento dinner instead.
Also no wifi in the room. As an international traveler I had to up my esim data for the day. They don’t advertise wifi in the room - they have it in the lobby so it wouldn’t be hard to get an extender to the rooms.
The onsen was nice however I found the outside onsen made a lot of noise- I’ve been to many onsen and this was the first that ever made noise from the filter so it wasn’t as relaxing as it could have been.
Overall decent stay but probably wouldn’t go back

3/19-20 Stayed at Yufu-no-Sato Ayakekan. The hotel has a special car to pick you up from Yufuin Station. This is a traditional Japanese-style hotel. You can see Mt. Yufu through the window. The one-night, two-berth room is very clean. There are sanitary ware in the suite but no shower. Facilities; The open-air hot spring is quite large and very comfortable. The second meal was very exquisite. Except for being a little far away from the main street of Yufuin, everything else was very good. Highly recommended.

As most commenters said, the facility and furniture are indeed with certain ages. Location is good and window outside view is fabulous. The staff are nice except one male reception staff is a bit severed, he insisted the breakfast last order is 8:00am as both dinner and breakfast are sets for each person and well prepared on the table before your scheduled time. It is too early compares to global standard especially for a family with a 5 years old child,we were trying to require for the later timeframe but he shaked his head with no further assistance, while by next morning I saw there was another table guests arrived after 8:20am but their meal is also well-prepared on the table awaits for them. The food is very Japanese local style, fresh and special with different spices, good for a try

GEMS YUFUIN (HOTEL / CAFE)
”Location: Convenient choice next to Yufuin Station”
The location of GEMS YUFUIN is almost unbeatable - exit JR Yufuin Station, stay on the left side of the pedestrian walkway and walk for one minute. Such convenience is undoubtedly a major advantage for passengers dragging suitcases, families, and large and small bags. What’s even better is that the surroundings of the hotel are well-equipped, with a 7-11 on the rear left and a Watson’s diagonally opposite, making supplies during travel a breeze. For visitors without a car, this is the perfect place to stay in Tarpaulin.
”Accommodation space: modern and comfortable, family-friendly”
Unlike most accommodations in Yufuin that focus on traditional Japanese style, GEMS YUFUIN adopts a simple modern design. The room is spacious and has smooth circulation. Not only can you easily open your suitcase, but it also has a small living room, which makes the guests feel more at home. The 2A room type we stayed in was equipped with modern equipment such as a refrigerator, a microwave, and an air purifier. It even had a bathtub, so the fatigue of the day's journey disappeared in the hot water. For families with children or travelers traveling with friends, this design is just right, being spacious yet cozy.
”Hot Spring Experience: Novel and Practical Small Hot Spring Pool”
Although the hot spring facilities of GEMS YUFUIN are small in scale, they are well-equipped and stand out for their novel facilities. The internal configuration includes a hot pool, a cold pool, an oven, and four clean and tidy shower rooms, allowing every traveler to enjoy a private bathing time. Although it doesn't have the atmosphere of an open-air pool or surrounded by mountain views, the hot spring water here is certified as a true natural hot spring, with a moderate and soothing water temperature. The bathhouse is arranged for men and women to use it at different times to meet the needs of different tourists. This small hot spring is a quiet corner during a busy journey.
”Catering: A simple but warm start to the morning”
Breakfast is a small surprise that makes you feel at ease - hot pressed toast is paired with a drink, offering two flavors: sweet and salty: red bean filling for sweet, and cheese for salty. Although it is not rich, for unsophisticated travelers, this kind of breakfast is enough to bring a good mood for the day. Of course, if you want to taste more Yufuin cuisine, the service staff can always provide good recommendations.
”Service: Delicate and warm, making people feel cordial”
GEMS YUFUIN's service is known for its friendly service. One of the staff members from Taiwan was particularly enthusiastic. In addition to familiarly introducing the hotel facilities, he also took the initiative to recommend Yufuin's delicacies to us, such as the popular local barbecue restaurant. This kind of interaction upgrades the hotel from a cold place to stay to a more humane journey.
”Value for money: mid-range price, a wise choice for family travel”
At a price of about NT$5,000 per night, including breakfast and hot spring facilities, GEMS YUFUIN is a mid-range hotel in Yufuin and a great value for money. Unlike most hot spring hotels that focus on the couples market, this place is extremely friendly to family travelers. Its spacious rooms, convenient location, and complete facilities make it an accommodation choice not to be missed.
”Who is it suitable for?” 》
• Family travelers: Spacious space and convenient equipment make family travel easier.
• Traveling with friends: The room type is suitable for multiple people to share, comfortable and affordable.
• Transportation-dependent travelers: It’s less than a minute’s walk from Yufuin Station, making it incredibly convenient.
”Final Advice”
If time permits, you may wish to ask the staff about local snacks and hidden attractions to make the journey more fulfilling.

Outstanding
PPriscillaWe had a great 2 nights stay at this Ryokan. Location was near Yufuin Floral Village, and around 20 mins walk from Yufuin JR station. It was a nice walk to Yufuin JR station as there were many shops and eateries that you can visit along the way. Alternatively, there is also bus 36 from Yufuin but terminal that would stop near to the ryokan.
The staff were really outstanding, friendly and helpful. When we arrived, a couple of them rushed to help us with our luggage and to also shelter us from the rain. During the entire stay, they made us feel very welcomed.
The Western/Japanese room that we booked was very spacious and had all the amenities we required. Note that this is a 2 storey living area - level 1 had a bathroom with private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as the living room, while level 2 had a toilet (w/o bath) and 1 western bedroom as well as 1 Japanese bedroom.
There are 4 public onsen in the ryokan. 2 for female and 2 for male. They would rotate it during the day and night to allow everyone to try out the different onsen.
We also had our breakfast and dinner at the ryokan as part of the package. The dishes were different on both days. The spread was huge and food tasted great. Note that there are very few places open at Yufuin during dinner time.
GGuest UserThe staff members were all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel overall was very cozy, particularly the onsens. Although all the four onsens were opened for all guests at the hotel, you can use one of them as long as you want because guests are instructed to hang a sign on the onsen to show that it is currently occupied. This is a great way for the guests to enjoy privacy to themselves, although it is opened publicly. Dinner and breakfast was included in the package so we did not have to worry about finding nearby restaurants. The food was delicious here! Would definitely recommend if you enjoy traditional Japanese meals to get the full experience. We had a private barbecue for dinner, and it was truly immaculate! However, there was smoke all over the hotel lobby coming from the barbecue so it would have been better if they kept the windows opened. It was also indoors so it was slightly overwhelming with all the smoke everywhere in the restaurant. But everything else was on point and breakfast was particularly delicious.
GGuest UserIt takes about 15 minutes to walk to Yufuin Bus Station. It was difficult to move with a carrier. There were many traffic lights on the way and the car passed right next to me, so it was difficult with a carrier. ㅠㅠ But Yufuin-tei's bedding was clean and it was nice that there was a private hot spring. There were hardly any people in the hot spring, so it was very convenient to use. There was a smoking area at the check-in area, so it smelled a bit of cigarette smoke. The service was friendly, but it was a shame that there were no Korean-speaking staff. There was nothing to eat for dinner except steak. The breakfast was very delicious.
AACNFOur ryokanl booking came with sukiyaki dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed the dinner very much but had to skip the breakfast due to our tight schedule. The ryokan had a cosy atmosphere, almost as if like we were staying at a good friend's house. There were a few cute and friendly cats which were mostly hanging around the courtyard and reception area. Nice onsen private onsen baths.
Wished that the ryokan had provided luggage stands for us to put our luggages instead of us having to place our luggages on the floor and on the sofa.
SSilverGeckoWe chose this gorgeous Ryokan because after backpacking in Japan for a month we felt like a treat to end our trip. It was a beautiful place to reflect upon our adventures. We hired a car so that we could explore the region and go into town when ever we wanted to (it’s located approximately 3km out of town up a hill). We bought a bottle of wine and snacks in the local supermarket and enjoyed a glass each evening in the garden. Sadly we were unable to experience their restaurant as they had not seen our email requesting this; however we found a some cute restaurants and cafes ate there instead. The hot springs really were 🥵 but great for our aches. Highly recommend as a beautiful private place to reconnect with your loved ones. It would be an amazing place for a wedding as everyone would be together and the gardens are so tranquil.
SSame Raksa DangIt sounds like you had an amazing experience at that hostel! Here's a slightly polished version of your review:
If you're looking for a budget-friendly hostel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. The owner couple is incredibly friendly and makes you feel at home right away. I was greeted by a new roommate and the owner even took us on a night tour to Kinrin Lake and Floral Village, which was such a lovely surprise. The breakfast is absolutely delicious, and the couple’s romantic gesture of singing a beautiful thank-you song before you leave just adds a special touch. Their voices are stunning, and it truly makes you want to return
GGuest UserFirst of all, I was very satisfied with the location! It was nice that it was close to Yufuin Station and the bus terminal haha.
And the owner was friendly and could communicate in English, so I was guided well!
Above all, I went because of the hot springs, but they said that the family baths can only be used if a “child” is included..! We couldn't use the family bath because it didn't meet the requirements, so we used the public bath. However, since the public bath is only used by ryokan guests, we were satisfied that our family could use it almost privately for two days. In particular, I brought a grandmother in her 80s with me and she really enjoyed it!
I requested breakfast, and I was able to choose between 8:00 and 8:30, and it was a really neat and clean Japanese home-cooked meal! I stayed for two days and was satisfied with the different types of side dishes and drinks. It seemed like they paid a lot of attention to hygiene, and I felt like I was treated well, so it was a really nice place to stay.
Next time I go to Yufuin, this is a place I want to stay again! ☺️
AAnonymous UserThis is the failure of the blind hotel selection for this trip to Japan. . In fact, there are many other hotel options in the town. Fortunately, the surrounding environment heals and does not affect the overall travel mood.
The so-called private bath is as small as a single bathtub, and the only outdoor hot spring time is very short. I didn't know that the scheduled dinner was not in the hotel until I arrived. I needed to take a car, and I didn't explain it in advance. It is very similar to a simple ABB standard hotel, which is very different from the expected hot spring hotel. It is also far from the station. The advantage is that it is very close to Jinlin Lake. Get up early and go for a walk. The environment of the town is so beautiful
The attitude of the service staff is very good. After 9 o'clock, they get off work and ask for self service. At this price, I can't complain, and I won't choose it next time
GGuest UserThe waiter at the hot spring hotel is very attentive. After arriving at the hotel, the waiter will lead you to the room where you are staying. The waiter will explain the hotel facilities in detail, including the opening hours of the outdoor hot spring, meal arrangements, etc. Bob, the waiter who received us, spoke very fluent English, was attentive to arrangements, and had a friendly smile, which made people feel very relaxed and natural. The waiters here understand Mandarin and have no problem communicating. The room I booked this time is equipped with an independent bath, which is semi-open-air. You can see the outdoor scenery. The water quality and temperature are very good, and it feels very good. In addition to enjoying the hot spring in my room, I also soaked in the public hot spring in the hotel. There is an outdoor and an indoor hot spring. There are time limits. Although the hot spring is not too big and can accommodate 6 people each, there was no one during the time I soaked. Maybe Let’s all enjoy the bath in the room. However, I recommend that you book a room with an independent hot spring bath, because you can soak in the hot spring at any time. There are not many rooms here, and they are highly private, so you can enjoy a peaceful a**osphere. I booked a stay with two meals. This meal is mainly fish. In addition to raw fish and grilled fish, friends who like to eat fish should not miss it.
AAnonymous UserThe accommodation is beautiful, the surrounding atmosphere is good, and there is an onsen hot spring to soak in. The food is delicious. **But what I am not very impressed with is the control of other service providers. Mostly, 99% on the day I stayed were Koreans who were not very polite. They did not know even the etiquette and rules of using the public hot spring. I am not sure if the owner of the accommodation has informed the rules of using the hot spring, which is something I cannot accept. They were loud, threw the earbuds on the floor, and were not orderly. They also wore shoes in the common area of the dressing room in the hot spring. I was very disappointed. It was a rather disappointing vacation, even though it should have been a good day for me. I lost the mood to soak in the atmosphere. I did not even have the heart to take pictures of the atmosphere with the accommodation.
