Top rated hotels in Ontario

Comfort Inn Kenora
3.3/5101 Reviews
This was my first stay at this location after using several other hotels in Kenora. The room was fine aside from the fact the cleaning of the room was not done well as dirt was still on the carpet and the mini-fridge/freezer was not cold when I got there. But what got me giving them a poor rating is the fact I paid for a room with breakfast and when I asked upon checking in when breakfast would be, I then was told there would be no breakfast as they ran out of supplies. I made it clear this was unsatisfactory but the guy working the counter told me he would call me to let me know what can be done and never did. There was no breakfast in the morning when this was one of the reasons I had booked this hotel as I was going to be out all day and needed a good breakfast before heading out. As well, if I had known there was no breakfast, I would have booked elsewhere for cheaper not including a breakfast. There was another couple checking out at the same time as me and they were pretty upset for the same reason.

York
I recently stayed for two nights for a work event at the hotel and loved it. The hotel is beautiful and clean, while being a throw-back to a different era (like 1800s throwback). The room was large, clean, well appointed. The bar was great, with big comfortable chairs, exposed stone walls, and a welcoming atmosphere — and thank you Astrid for the great service and laughs. Would definitely stay again despite it not being downtown (but it’s right at a subway stop that takes you down the Bloor line, with lots of interesting places to hop off and explore).

Alas, this trip to the western regions of Ontario was plagued by distant hotels that, in spite of the smallness of the towns in which they were located, nevertheless seemed much further into the outer regions than most travelers would venture. This place had nice staff and a great free breakfast buffet, but another problem was that the TV was either broken or I couldn't figure out how to get it working. The free internet was good enough for me to do a Zoom meeting. Attached is a picture of how far out there it was located!

Clean room, staff was nice and friendly. There isn’t much breakfast available (it was grab & go breakfast), but the hotel is located close to a lot of food chains and restaurants. The hotel is right next to a Dairy Queen, nice for food, but my room window was directly facing the drive thru, which was quite noisy. If you close the window and curtains the sound almost goes away. My room and a double bed, chair, desk, desk chair, and two wardrobes. Overall, it’s a good hotel for a night’s stay.

Trinity-Niagara
I loved my stay here. It is a low-cost place in a local neighbourhood, and that’s what I was looking for. My room was clean and efficient. It is a bit weird in that there is no public signage and you have to read signs on the doors to find your way to check-in. Once there, the people who run the place are lovely. There is no elevator so I had help carrying my bag up the stairs to the second floor. Best to bring your own toiletries, but they have small packets of shampoo etc it you want them. I loved the fact that there were some food items left in the fridge - and I left some behind. Much more like a short stay in an apartment than a hotel. Great local restaurants and easy transit. I was attending a downtown conference and loved my place a $17 Uber away from the convention centre.
The Waring House
3.9/5101 Reviews
Just spent 2 nights in The House Next Door room 10 of the Waring House. For the nightly of $275 I was shocked at the room. I was part of a large group, and unfortunately there were no other rooms available or I would have checked out. To start with, in the bathroom there was a large section of black mold along the floor board, the caulking along the bottom of shower stall as well as the track were in need of deep cleaning, same with the floor of the shower since I don’t think it was meant to be grey. The sinks were cracked and unbelievably the clothes rail (only place to hang clothes up) was right next to the toilet! After my shower I hung up my towel & the towel bar came crashing down from the wall. The lights in the room were either entirely off or all on as they seemed to be on the same circuit. Same goes for the electrical outlets, so I couldn’t charge my phone once the lights were out. The manager seemed shocked when I showed her the photos, apologized and offered a small discount but it really didn’t make up for a truly awful room. It needs to be gutted and they should start over again.
Algonquin Lakeside Inn
3.1/5104 Reviews
We stayed at the Algonquin Lakeside Inn in mid-September 2022 for one night. It was the only game in town for a single Friday night, when I searched a few days ahead (not surprisingly). I saw a number of quite bad reviews, so was worried about what it would be like. In short, the bad reviews were correct as far as the outside went. However fortunately the inside was surprisingly decent, very clean, though a minimalist layout (one chair, no table). The bathroom was fine, the TV worked, the WiFi was fine, the bed was also OK. The grounds on the other hand were exceptionally bad – nothing appealing about it at all. The barbecues didn’t work, and a couple looked as though someone had barfed in them. The plastic outdoor chairs were so flimsy I thought they might break just by sitting in them. ****s everywhere. Obviously, the owners have decided to just let the grounds go back to nature. The ”restaurant” also looked bad, though we didn't try it. The place might be acceptable if it charged $100 a night or less, but it was almost as expensive as other nearby lodges that looked infinitely nicer.

Hotel was clean however showed its age. Stained carpets in the rooms and hallways and I noted periodic unidentified odors when walking in the hallway. Most staff were professional, polite and helpful. Check-in and check-out was quick and efficient. We were advised upon arrival that both the swimming pool and the exercise room were under repair and not to be used. For my wife who has some mobility problems, no fully accessible room was available to us. Sink drain in assigned room was blocked and could not be unclogged by maintenance personnel. We were quickly assigned to another room of equal value. First morning breakfast was plentiful and as good as any hotel breakfast I have had. Second morning there was a sign on the food warmer that it was out of order and there would be no hot breakfast. There were plenty of cold breakfast products available.
Sleep Inn

The location of this hotel is also very convenient, there is a mall not far away, you can see the United States opposite. You can watch the sunset by the water. The breakfast here is average, can be full, there are coffee bread, waffles, sausage, quiche, cereal, a little fruit and yogurt, this hotel service is very good, the room setting is good, the bed is very comfortable, as for No extra bed, I really don't know. I have two big beds in the room. If I squeeze, I should be able to sleep four people. Overall, this hotel is good!
