When you think of Hegang, do you only think of low housing prices? As a travel blogger who has personally visited, I must set the record straight for this hidden gem city! It’s not just a passing internet sensation, but a secret paradise nestled at the foot of the Lesser Khingan Mountains and along the Heilongjiang River. It boasts a forest oxygen bar comparable to Changbai Mountain, a magnificent border river at the China-Russia boundary, deliciously affordable local cuisine, and a slow, healing pace of life. Bringing kids here is truly comfortable. ⛏️ Taipinggou Ancient Gold Town Gold Panning Experience The ticket to Taipinggou Ancient Gold Town is 50 RMB. This area was a famous gold-producing region from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China era, with over 100,000 gold panners gathering here at its peak. The current ancient town is rebuilt in the late Qing and early Republic style, featuring real-life buildings like escort agencies, pawnshops, distilleries, and a gold mine museum. Walking through it feels like traveling back a hundred years. The most interesting part is going down into the real gold mine tunnel ruins to try gold panning. Staff will give you a small basin to wash the gold sand, and you can keep any gold flakes you find as a souvenir. It was the kids’ first time panning for gold, and they were very focused, excitedly jumping when they found tiny gold pieces. The town also has many live performances, making it lively and captivating for children. · -- 🌲 Hegang National Forest Park for Fresh Air Hegang National Forest Park is completely free! Covering 80,000 hectares of natural oxygen bar, it features towering ancient trees and creek boardwalks. It’s perfect for summer cooling and autumn leaf viewing, with every snapshot looking like a forest masterpiece. I recommend visiting the Xilin River Folk Custom Park to experience a 7-kilometer rafting trip, with green mountains on both sides and crystal-clear water, especially refreshing in summer. Don’t miss the original red pine mother forest in Tongzigou, where the red pines are over a hundred years old. Walking through the forest with sunlight filtering through the canopy is very healing. Along the forest boardwalk, there are educational signs where kids can learn about rare tree species like Northeast fir and red pine, combining fun with knowledge. Remember to bring binoculars—you might be lucky enough to see black squirrels jumping around the trees. · -- ⛰️ Jinding Mountain Geological Park to Enjoy the Colorful Mountains The ticket to Jinding Mountain Geological Park is 30 RMB. The best time to visit is in autumn, September to October, when the mountains are covered in a riot of colors—red, yellow, green—like a painted masterpiece. The mountain paths are not steep, stroller-friendly, and there are many resting pavilions along the way. The summit offers a wide-open view of the rolling mountains. In autumn, the leaves change color, creating a scene like an oil painting. At the foot of the mountain is a deer park with a dozen sika deer that you can feed up close. Carrots cost 10 RMB per portion, and the deer are very gentle, so kids can feed them safely. The farm-style dishes in the park are delicious—highly recommend the stewed chicken and stir-fried wild vegetables, all natural and fresh. · -- 🥘 Hongguang Village Korean Ethnic Folk Village Hongguang Village is Hegang’s only national-level ethnic minority characteristic village. The villagers are all Korean ethnic group, preserving complete Korean folk culture. The village architecture features Korean style with white walls and gray tiles, very clean and beautiful. You can try making rice cakes and kimchi, with elderly ladies teaching you step-by-step. The food you make can be eaten right away and tastes very authentic. For lunch, enjoy Korean cuisine at the village restaurant—cold noodles, bibimbap, barbecue, soybean paste soup—all delicious and very affordable, with about 50 RMB per person to eat until full. The village also has swings and seesaws where kids can experience traditional Korean games and have a great time. · -- 🍢 Hegang Food That Never Disappoints You must try Hegang’s small skewers, famous nationwide. Grilled beef, lamb, and vegetable rolls are all very fragrant, with about 40 RMB per person to eat until full. Try the iron pot stews, like stewed goose and stewed ribs, with pancakes soaking up the broth—absolutely delicious. Baoquanling’s cold noodles are very authentic, sweet and sour and refreshing, perfect for summer, only 10 RMB per bowl. · -- Accommodation 🏨 Hegang Hekuang Hotel Located in the city center with convenient transportation, spacious and clean rooms, rich breakfast, and attentive service. 🏨 Hegang Longyun Grand Hotel Five-star standard, new facilities, family rooms available, great pool and gym, perfect for families. 🏨 Hegang Jiuzhou International Hotel Clean and tidy rooms, affordable prices, convenient for dining and shopping nearby, great value for money. 🏨 Luobei Taipinggou Ancient Gold Town Hotel Located inside the Taipinggou scenic area, with an ancient town style and strong immersive experience, ideal for families who enjoy unique accommodations. · --

Come to Hegang, set aside the stereotypes you've seen online, and enjoy the vast border river while experiencing the simple, authentic charm of a small Northeast Chinese city. This road trip is absolutely worth it.

The small northern city of Hegang hides the forest breezes of the Lesser Khingan Mountains🌲. It combines the industrial memories of a coal city with the magnificent scenery of the border river. With its rich local life and gentle prices, it is a low-key and healing hidden gem for travel! Self-driving or hiring a car is recommended. 🔥 Forest areas are fire-prevention zones. Open flames are strictly prohibited in scenic areas. Do not pick wild mushrooms or fruits. 🍖 Portions in Hegang are huge. Don't order too much at once to avoid waste. 📅 Hegang Museum is closed on Mondays. Remember to plan your itinerary accordingly. 🌊 Follow staff instructions when visiting the border river and do not approach dangerous areas near the water. 🛒 When shopping for Russian goods, compare prices and shop rationally.

A real Jiayin travel experience! No filters, no hype, just my personal take. If you're planning to go during the National Day holiday, this might be helpful. Jiayin is a small border town in Yichun. I had planned to visit twice before but missed out due to road construction and the pandemic. This time, I finally made it! Overall impression: It's suitable for a stopover, but not worth traveling a long distance just to visit. If you're short on time, you can definitely skip Jiayin. It's only worth adding to your itinerary if you have plenty of time and want to explore at a leisurely pace to enrich your trip. First, a crucial tip to avoid a major pitfall❗ Accommodation here is very expensive during the National Day holiday. To save money, I chose Wuyun Town for the first night! It's located between Moon Bay and Maolangou, making it convenient to get to the scenic spots the next day. If you want to save money, consider staying here! On the second day, because accommodation was too expensive again, I decided on a whim to head to Luobei County in Hegang. And here's the problem! Do not, under any circumstances, drive on National Highway 331 at night!! It's pitch black the whole way, the forest is eerily lonely, and there are vehicles parked randomly along the roadside. There are so many blind spots. I was on edge the entire time and almost got into an accident. It was terrifying—everyone, please avoid driving at night! Now, let's talk about the autumn scenery everyone is most interested in! Jiayin is at a higher latitude and further north, so the leaves turn yellow earlier than in other parts of Yichun, and the scenery is highly unpredictable! After a strong gust of wind, most of the yellow leaves will fall off, significantly reducing the visual appeal! ❗️Scenic spot reviews 🌳Maolangou National Forest Park | ★★★ A Little Jiuzhaigou of the North, but the actual experience is quite average It features canyon fissure landscapes. The hike is comfortable, and the forest oxygen bar is very healing. It's an easy, relaxing walk, but there are no stunning views. 🦖Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark | ★★★ Suitable for family trips. The only highlight is the Dinosaur Tower. The view from the top is fantastic, offering a panoramic look at the forest and the riverbank. 🌙Moon Bay | ★★ A free riverside viewing platform, specifically for looking at the winding Heilongjiang River The scenery is monotonous and unremarkable. Just take a look if you're passing by. No need to make a special trip. 📌Boundary Marker 223 | ★★★ A riverside park with no admission fee. The sunset in the evening is beautiful. With the gentle river breeze and the healing border scenery, it's worth stopping to watch the sunset. 🏡Jiayin Riverside Starry Sky Homestay | ★★★ A niche spot for great photos There's a pristine wetland grassland in front of the homestay, paired with scattered deadwood landscapes. The atmosphere and sense of relaxation are top-notch. Overall travel summary ✅Suitable for: Those with plenty of time, fans of niche border scenery, those who prefer slow travel, and families with kids. ❌Not suitable for: Those seeking ultimate scenery, those with tight schedules, or fast-paced travelers. 💡Travel advice: A 1-day stopover is enough. I don't recommend staying overnight for an in-depth tour; prioritize the core scenic spots of Yichun instead.

If the last post was about the "value for money" in Hegang, this one is about its "hidden gem." The Longjiang Three Gorges. This place was named "the most beautiful place in Heilongjiang" by Chinese National Geography. Before I went, I thought that might be an exaggeration, but after visiting, I realized it was well-deserved. 🚢 Longjiang Three Gorges: An ink-wash painting on the Heilongjiang River The Longjiang Three Gorges are located near Taipinggou in Luobei County and consist of three sections: Longmen Gorge, Jinlong Gorge, and Jinman Gorge, covering a 45-kilometer waterway. I took a boat tour, which I highly recommend. The beauty of this place lies in the fact that "it looks like a gorge from the boat, but a river from the shore." When you look at it from the bank, it's just a wide river. But once you take a boat into the gorge, the mountains on both sides seem to close in on you, and that feeling of "green mountains facing each other" immediately comes to life. The boat doesn't move fast, just enough for you to take it all in. The river water is a deep, ink-like green, and the mountains on both sides are covered in dense forests with steep cliffs, where some rocks jut directly into the river. I stood by the railing, the wind messing up my hair, but I couldn't bear to blink because every turn revealed a new painting. 🏔️ Longmen Gorge: The most precipitous section The first section is Longmen Gorge, which is also the most rugged of the three. The mountains on both sides are exceptionally high, and the river narrows here. Once the boat enters, you feel as if you are being squeezed by the mountains. Looking up, the trees on the mountain peaks outline a jagged silhouette against the blue sky, and occasionally, eagles circle overhead. I went in early September, and the leaves on the mountains were just starting to change color—greens, yellows, and reds intertwined like a spilled palette. The crew said early October is the most beautiful time, when the entire mountain becomes a "five-flower mountain," with layers of forest dyed in different colors, just like an oil painting. There is a spot in the gorge called "Jinman Gorge" where the water is incredibly calm. The mountains on both sides are reflected in the water, making it hard to tell where the sky ends and the water begins. As the boat passed through, it broke the reflection, sending ripples outward. I still find that image stunning when I think about it. 🏘️ Taipinggou Gold Town: A century of gold-panning history After touring the Three Gorges, the boat docks at Taipinggou. This place has a story. During the late Qing Dynasty, it was a major hub for the gold rush, and it is said that at its peak, tens of thousands of gold prospectors were digging for gold here. Now, a "Gold Town" has been built, imitating the architectural style of that era, complete with shops, inns, a stage, and a gold-panning experience area where you can try your hand at sifting sand in the water to find gold flakes. I gave it a try, shaking a small wooden basin in the water for ten minutes without finding anything, but the process was quite fun. The staff said that if you are lucky, you can actually find small gold flakes; I guess I'm just not that lucky. The old town is not big, and an hour is enough to explore it. But its location is excellent—right by the river, with mountains behind it and the river in front. Standing on the Wangjiang Tower in the old town, the view of the wide river and the distant, dark-green mountains is absolutely breathtaking. 🌲 Xinglong Gorge: An underground forest oxygen bar If you have enough time, there is also Xinglong Gorge near Taipinggou, which I highly recommend visiting. This is an "underground forest." The gorge is dozens of meters lower than the ground level. Once you walk down, you are surrounded by towering Korean pines and firs. Sunlight leaks through the gaps in the canopy, casting beams of light onto the ground. The air is filled with the scent of pine resin, and the negative oxygen ion levels are so high that I felt my lungs cheering with every breath. There are streams in the gorge with crystal-clear water. Walking along the stream, with the sound of water accompanied by birdsong, this immersive forest experience is more stress-relieving than any spa. I walked for about an hour and a half, and when I came out, I felt refreshed, as if all the fatigue accumulated in the city had been washed away. 📸 Tested photo spots Here are a few great photo spots I personally tested: 1. The bow of the top deck of the cruise ship: Shoot when the gorge turns, as the mountains on both sides form a natural frame. 2. Taipinggou Wangjiang Tower: Overlook the river and distant mountains; a wide-angle lens captures the grandeur perfectly. 3. The wooden boardwalk in Xinglong Gorge: Take photos when the sunlight filters through the leaves for beautiful light and shadow effects. 4. On the reefs by the river (be careful): Use the river and the Russian forest on the opposite bank as a background for a great atmosphere. ⚠️ Practical information · The Longjiang Three Gorges cruise does not run every day. It is recommended to confirm the schedule in advance; there are more departures during peak season. · It is windy on the boat, so bring a windbreaker. I went in early September and was frozen through after standing on the deck for half an hour. · Taipinggou Old Town and Xinglong Gorge can be arranged on the same day: tour the river in the morning and explore the gorge in the afternoon. · It takes about two hours to drive from downtown Hegang to Taipinggou. It is recommended to drive yourself or hire a car. · Mobile phone signal is weak in the gorge, so download offline maps in advance. I stayed that night right by Taipinggou in a small building facing the river. When I opened the window, the Heilongjiang River was right there. It was very dark at night with no light pollution from the city, and I could see the starry sky and the Milky Way clearly when I looked up. I stood on the balcony for a long time, watching the stars, the river, and the silhouettes of the distant mountains, listening to the sound of the river lapping against the shore, feeling completely enveloped by nature. The room was warm, the quilt was soft, and I fell asleep to the sound of the river, dreaming of nothing. The next morning, when I opened the window, a thin mist was floating on the river, the mountains and forests on the opposite bank were looming, and the sunlight shone through the mist onto the water, shimmering with gold. At that moment, I felt that this trip to Heilongjiang was complete.

If you were to condense the autumn of Northeast China into a single hiking route—it would likely start from the Hulunbuir grasslands, pass through the volcanic forests of Changbai Mountain, and then journey deep into the Lesser Khingan Mountains. Three routes, three types of autumn colors, and a journey that takes you from vast landscapes to deep, hidden corners. Stop 1 | Hulunbuir Start from Hailar, climb to the high point of the Morigele River, and watch the golden grasslands and winding rivers stretch toward the horizon. Then, enter the pastoral birch forests for a 15 km light hike through golden pastures. Experience ridge hiking in the Ergun Wetland, the Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe, the forest trails of Moerdaoga, White Deer Island, and finally, the log cabins of Enhe. There's also horseback riding through birch forests, a 15 km hike along the border, and a 10 km secret grassland trail on a private ranch. Finally, arrive in Manzhouli to see the Matryoshka Square and the night views of this border city. Stop 2 | Changbai Mountain This leg covers both autumn forests and volcanic landscapes in one go. Go stream trekking for 4 km in the Changbai Mountain volcanic canyon, crossing wooden boardwalks and wading through dirt paths. Visit the North Scenic Area to check off Heaven Lake, Changbai Waterfall, Green Abyss Pool, and the Underground Forest. Then, hike 5 km deep into the primeval forest with a cumulative elevation gain of 350m, plus rafting and ginseng digging experiences. Finally, hike 6 km down from the summit of Laotudingzi Mountain to conclude the journey amidst forests and mountain ridges. Stop 3 | Lesser Khingan Mountains From the border river to the deep mountains, from stone forests to primeval Korean pine forests. See the Longjiang Three Gorges from Longding Mountain, take a border river cruise, and visit the China-Russia border marker. Hike 8 km through the Lesser Khingan stone forest, trek 6 km through the Xinqing Wetland and primeval Korean pine forest, visit Luxi Ranch, and challenge yourself with a 15 km hike to the main peak of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, Pingding Mountain. Finally, walk into Taoyuan Lake to see the colorful autumn mountain scenery. One journey, three landscapes. The gold of the grasslands, the white of the birch trees, and the red of the forests—all arrive together in autumn.

Bidding farewell to the easternmost point of Fuyuan, the G331 road trip officially changes direction, heading west. Driving through the vast black soil of the Great Northern Wilderness, an endless sea of rice paddies stretches into the distance. As the wind blows through the rice waves, the grandeur of the northern granary is everywhere. Passing by Gongqing Farm, I stopped to check out the stunning paddy field art. Climbing the observation tower to overlook the landscape, different colors of rice seedlings outline giant patterns. Standing here, you can truly feel the power of the wilderness transforming into a granary—the visual impact is incredible. Driving all the way, I arrived in Yichun in the evening, ready to embrace the forest sea of the Lesser Khingan Mountains and end a fulfilling day! 📝 Road Trip Tips ▪️ Parking: The paddy field art scenic area has a dedicated paved parking lot; do not drive into the dirt roads in the fields. Parking spaces around the observation tower are limited, so arriving off-peak is recommended. ▪️ Road Conditions: The roads in the Great Northern Wilderness section are straight with many large trucks. Keep a safe distance and be cautious when passing other vehicles. ▪️ Temperature Difference: The temperature difference between day and night in the black soil region is significant. It gets chilly in the evening, so have a light jacket ready. ▪️ Viewing: You must climb the observation tower to see the paddy field art; the complete patterns cannot be seen from the ground. Following the G331, from the eastern border to the forest sea, continuing on to the next stretch of scenery 🌍

In September Hegang is just entering autumn. The remnant forests of the Lesser Khingan Mountains slowly turn gold and red, and the wind from the Heilongjiang River brings a chill. There are no summer crowds, and it’s not yet peak leaf-viewing season, so food, lodging, and activities offer great value. This route avoids internet-famous gimmicks—follow the locals to visit mines, walk the border river, and explore old towns for an authentic, no-surprises trip. Day 1 coal town memories | dive into a century-old mine's industrial era In the morning, go to Hegang National Mining Park. It’s free to enter and closed on Mondays; underground experiences must be booked 1 day in advance. Don’t just take photos of the tracks on the surface—make sure to go down to the real mine 300 meters underground. An old miner will tell coal-mining stories, you can touch an old-style coal cutter, and the underground stays at a cool 15°C. The whole experience takes about 1.5 hours. Take bus 10 directly to the entrance—no taxi needed. At noon, eat at Chunxiang Pancakes, a neighborhood staple in Nanshan District that’s been open for over 40 years and only serves lunch. The pork and rutabaga-filled pancakes are hand-rolled and so thin they’re translucent; they burst with juice when you bite them. Served with a bowl of millet porridge and a small plate of pickles, it’s about CNY 20 per person and very filling. Go before 11:00 AM to avoid waiting—mostly regulars dine here. In the afternoon, stroll Beishan Park, the locals' hill behind the city. Free entry. In September the Ruifu Road trail is lined with red and yellow leaves. Climb to the summit viewing platform to overlook the city’s rooftops and Wuhua Mountain in the distance. Around 4:00 PM the light is soft and creates beautiful autumn shadows. Many local elders walk here, and the atmosphere feels lively and lived-in. For dinner, try Shenji Huafeng barbecue on Beihongqi Road in Gongnong District, a charcoal barbecue spot with over 30 years of history. The signature medium-rare mixed-fat skewers are a must—charred to crisp edges and delicious when dipped in the old-style dry seasoning. Add a pot of spicy tripe hotpot; about CNY 60 per person gets you stuffed. Restaurants often have shared tables at mealtime, so aim to arrive by 5:30 PM. Day 2 border river breeze | slow moments on the China–Russia border In the morning, drive about 1.5 hours to Mingshan Town, Luobei, and visit Mingshan Island. Island entry is CNY 20. Cross the suspension bridge to the island; the wooden boardwalk circling the island is flanked by birch forests that are turning from green to yellow in early September. Walk to boundary marker No. 235 and you can even see smoke rising from Russian villages on the far bank. The island is very quiet—after a half-hour walk you may hardly meet any other visitors, and the river breeze is especially pleasant. At noon, find a Russian-style diner in town. The slow-braised beef is tender and flavorful, freshly baked rye bread with blueberry jam is perfect for dipping, and a bowl of borscht rounds out the meal. Expect about CNY 50 per person for a very satisfying, authentic border-flavor lunch. In the afternoon, explore Taipinggou ancient town, a free-entry, century-old gold-mining town. Follow the old streets—the old cobblestones of Yanzhigou and Qing-dynasty shops still remain, and the street is so quiet because so few people come. Walk to the riverside trail and watch the Heilongjiang River wind beside Wuhua Mountain. At sunset the golden light spreads across the river—especially soothing. At night, stay in Luobei county seat. A standard room is about CNY 100, and the night market is right downstairs. Grilled cold noodles with egg cost CNY 5, and frozen pears and frozen persimmons are just coming into season—be sure to try them. Day 3 rice paddy autumn rhythm | the everyday life of an ethnic Korean village In the morning, go to the Gongqing Farm rice paddy art. By September the paddies are all golden, and you can view the giant paddy art from the viewing platform. The wind makes the rice waves rustle, a real sense of harvest in the North. The viewing platform is free; drones must be registered in advance. Morning light is best for photos. At noon, eat at a Korean restaurant in Hongguang Village. The freshly pressed cold noodles are chewy and springy, served with kimchi and rice cake, and a bowl of soybean paste soup. About CNY 35 per person for a comfortable meal. The village is full of low-walled ethnic Korean courtyards and has a very atmospheric feel. In the afternoon, wander the village. In September you can pick apples and pears—ask a local and you can enter the orchard, usually a few CNY per jin (500 g). If you don’t want to pick, just walk the village roads. Century-old pear trees hang heavy with fruit, and you may see villagers drying kimchi. Heading back around 2:00 PM times the return trip nicely. Practical tips · Clothing: daytime around 20°C, nights drop to about 7°C. A light windbreaker + long-sleeve T-shirt are essential; it’s windy by the river and in the hills · Transport: to Luobei it’s recommended to hire a car for the day—CNY 280 is less hassle than taking the bus. City attractions are reachable by public bus · Avoid pitfalls: wear non-slip shoes for the mine, don’t fly drones near the border, and bring your ID for checks · Accommodation: in the city, staying in Gongnong District is most convenient and close to the barbecue restaurants. Staying in Luobei’s county seat offers better value You can fully enjoy the trip at around CNY 900 per person. Hegang’s beauty has never been about trending topics, but about the stories in the mines, the breeze of the border river, and the waves in the rice paddies. Come in September when there are fewer people and more peace—perfect for slowly savoring the flavor of this small northeastern city.

📍 Hegang · Hebei Korean Pine Forest | 3-day 2-night in-depth tour ✈️ First, let's talk about why I chose Hegang Can anyone relate?! I was shocked when I saw that the average temperature in Hegang in summer is 20°C 🤯 I was melting in the heat in the south, and they actually need to wear long sleeves over there?? I booked my ticket and flew over without a second thought. Honestly, before coming here, my impression of Hegang was limited to the "cheap housing prices" label. But the moment I landed, the air was filled with the fresh scent of pine resin. Taking a deep breath felt like my lungs had been washed clean. 🌲 Day 1 · Diving into the largest Korean pine forest in Asia Hebei Korean Pine Forest National Forest Park—the name sounds intimidating—is the largest single-unit primitive Korean pine seed tree forest in Asia, covering a full 11,860 hectares with 430,000 Korean pine seed trees. Some of these ancient pines have been alive for over 500 years!! The moment I walked in, only one thought crossed my mind: Did I stumble into The Wizard of Oz? 🧭 Tips from personal experience: The wooden boardwalk is very well-built and easy to walk on; the temperature in the forest is 5–6 degrees lower than outside, so bring a light jacket; I recommend entering between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM when the light filters through the gaps in the canopy—it's stunning; the negative oxygen ion concentration is off the charts, and you really feel your mind clearing up. I walked on the boardwalk for about two hours. Along the way, I saw several towering ancient pines that would take three or four people to hug. The canopy was so dense that sunlight only leaked through in patches. Standing under such giant trees, you feel incredibly small, and all your worries just fade away. 🏔️ Day 2 · Jinding Mountain is the real "fridge-level" summer retreat The next day, I headed straight to Jinding Mountain Geological Park, the highest peak in Hegang at an altitude of 848 meters. At first, I thought it was fine, but after walking just a few hundred meters, the wind blowing in my face, carrying moisture, was so cool it made my hair stand on end 😂 I reached out to touch the stream water, and it was so icy it made my fingertips numb! The temperature in the core area is 5–7 degrees lower than in the city—I'm not exaggerating. ⛰️ Highlights: The five stone forest belts stretch for 3,080 meters, and the granite landscape is breathtaking; the scene of "pines growing on rocks, rocks hidden in the forest" is truly magical; the Grand Canyon is 1,300 meters long with a 100-meter drop, accompanied by streams, waterfalls, and deep pools along the way; the whole route takes 3–4 hours and is manageable even with average stamina. The best part of Jinding Mountain is the combination of pines and rocks. Have you ever seen pine trees growing directly out of cracks in rocks? Their roots cling tightly to the stone, creating a stubborn and beautiful posture that is a rare sight even in the three northeastern provinces. 🚢 Day 3 · Longjiang Three Gorges, an ink-wash painting scroll on the China-Russia border river The last day was dedicated to the Longjiang Three Gorges in Taipinggou Scenic Area. I took a cruise on the Heilongjiang River for two hours; China is on the left, and Russia is on the right 🇷🇺 The cliffs of Longmen Gorge look like they were split by an axe. Longjin Gorge is often shrouded in mist, and Jinman Gorge is lush and green in summer—a 62-kilometer canyon scroll slowly unfolds before your eyes, with the river breeze blowing, making you feel completely refreshed. 📸 Photography tips: Remember to go to the deck to take photos while on the boat for the widest view; bring a telephoto lens to capture the majestic mountain scenery on both banks; go in the morning for the best light, as the afternoon has severe backlighting; wear bright-colored clothes, as they look great against the blue river background. 🛏️ Accommodation experience: I stayed in a detached wooden cabin in the mountains surrounded by a birch forest. Opening the window revealed an endless sea of forest, and waking up to the sound of pine waves in the morning was so healing. The interior features log-style decor and is fully equipped with floor heating; the mountain breeze at night was cool enough that I didn't need air conditioning at all. The biggest surprise was the huge terrace. Sitting there in the evening watching the sunset paint the entire pine forest gold, it was so quiet that I could only hear the wind and distant bird calls. At that moment, I felt like the whole world was mine. 💡 Hegang transportation tips: Flight: You can fly to Jiamusi and then transfer by car for about 1.5 hours. Train: There are direct trains to Hegang. For travel between attractions within the city, I recommend chartering a car or driving yourself, as the distances are quite far. This trip completely overturned my perception of Hegang. It's not just about dirt-cheap housing; it has top-tier primitive forests in Asia, geological wonders carved over hundreds of millions of years, and the magnificent China-Russia border river. If you're looking for a summer getaway without the crowds, Hegang is definitely worth a visit!

🚗 We took a 4-day, 3-night road trip from Oct 4–Oct 7, covering a total of 1,330 km. Our route was Harbin – Yichun – Jiayin – Luobei – Harbin. Except for a few crowded spots, we mostly traveled off-peak and encountered very few people! So the whole trip went very smoothly! Sharing it with everyone. 1️⃣ Day 1 (Oct 4) Harbin – Yichun 🏠 · Rented a car in Harbin. After my friend picked it up, we visited the [Harbin Pharmaceutical Group Sixth Factory]. · Picked me up at the airport at 5:00 PM and started the drive to Yichun. We strolled through the night market in the evening and then rested. 2️⃣ Day 2 (Oct 5) Yichun – Tangwang County 🏠 · [Shenghui Morning Market]: To avoid traffic jams and crowds, we packed up and left around 6:30 AM. After visiting the morning market, we headed straight to the scenic area. · [Wuying National Forest Park]: The most beautiful spot is to the right of the parking lot outside the scenic area. Inside, just follow the sightseeing bus route. I suggest not spending too much time at the earlier spots; save your time for Xiangshui Creek and Tianci Lake. You can feed squirrels up close along Xiangshui Creek 🐿️. Definitely do not buy the sunflower seeds at the entrance! They are roasted, and the squirrels won't eat them! Tianci Lake is the most beautiful part of the entire forest park—perfect for photos! · [Xinqing National Wetland Park]: This place is truly beautiful! In autumn, the peat bogs unfold like a tapestry of golden yellow and deep blue. If you're lucky, you might even see rare birds like the white-naped crane. · Dinner at [Laolinjia Farmhouse]: The roasted rooster on the heated brick bed (kang) was absolutely amazing! 3️⃣ Day 3 (Oct 6) Tangwang County – Jiayin – Luobei 🏠 · Our main goal for the third day was to drive along the G331 to Luobei and enjoy the most beautiful border route. · We left around 10:00 AM and arrived in Jiayin for lunch at noon. Across the river in Jiayin, you can look out toward Russia. We had Laoshi Dessert ice cream and watched the village stage performance. It was a slow-paced, spacious, and leisurely experience. · In the afternoon, we continued our journey along the border line to Luobei. 4️⃣ Day 4 (Oct 7) Luobei – Harbin · [Jinshan Deer Park]: A holy grail for photos!! You can imagine how good it is just from those words. It was so quiet and comfortable that I felt like I could stay there for an entire day! · We headed back to Harbin in the afternoon, passing through the [Wudai Highway]. The sunlight filtering through the gaps in the trees onto the road was truly beautiful! ⚠️ A few tips · Regarding crowds and traffic: We mostly traveled against the flow of crowds on this trip. Besides leaving a bit later, we also checked the situation at our next stop in real-time on Xiaohongshu to adjust our itinerary. This helped us avoid many traffic jams and crowded areas. · Regarding clothing and temperature: The Lesser Khingan Mountains are still quite cold during the National Day holiday, and the temperature difference between day and night is significant. Long johns! A thick coat! You need both! If you must wear a skirt, make sure to wear thick leggings, otherwise, you'll be so cold you'll question your life choices (I know because I was frozen 😔)

Itinerary: Oct 1, 2025–Oct 6, 2025 Not sure where to go for autumn foliage during the National Day holiday? Take a trip to Yichun. Compared to the withered and desolate Greater Khingan Mountains, the Lesser Khingan Mountains are at their peak right now. If you want to avoid the crowds and don't want to see withered autumn scenery, just copy this. This is definitely a road trip paradise where you can avoid traffic jams and fully enjoy the vibrant autumn scenery. Day 1: Beijing–Harbin–G222–Yichun Jinshan Deer Park Once you enter Yichun, you'll see colorful autumn mountains everywhere. Accommodation: Xiaolu Homestay (located at the deer park entrance, allowing you to be among the first to enter the park the next day before the crowds arrive.) Day 2: Jinshan Deer Park–Tangwanghe Linhai Qishi Park After feeding the deer, head to Linhai Qishi Park to encounter adorable chipmunks 🐿️. Accommodation: Tangwanghe (The hotels are new, but they offer poor value for money, so I don't recommend them.) Day 3: Tangwanghe–Z301–Y301–Tangwanghe–Jiayin This is a highly recommended must-drive route in Yichun. It's off the beaten path, and the scenery is stunning. Photos 3, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18 were all taken here. Accommodation: A hotel by the riverside square in Jiayin, right across the street from the 223 boundary marker. Day 4: Jiayin–Jiayin Port–via G331–Luobei The first half follows the Heilongjiang River along the China-Russia border, and the second half takes you along the golden, winding 331 forest road. This is the second must-drive route of the entire trip. Accommodation: Luobei Jiejiang International Hotel Day 5: Luobei–Rice Paddy Art–Mingshan Island–Luobei Port–Harbin Accommodation: Habsburg Hotel Day 6: Harbin city walk–Return to Beijing

📍 Hegang · Songhe West Lake + Luobei Border Line | Unlocking all the niche travel experiences A soul-searching question to start 🤔 When it's 40°C across the country, would you believe there's a place where you need a blanket to sleep at night? I believe it. Because I'm in Hegang right now, and the "feels-like" temperature is 21°C. I'm sitting by the lake in long sleeves, feeling the breeze and watching the sunset slowly sink behind the mountains. I did a ton of research before deciding to come to Hegang, and I discovered that this city is severely underrated. It sits at the foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, cradled by the Heilongjiang and Songhua rivers. The forest coverage is incredibly high, and the air quality is unbelievable. The key is that almost no one knows this is a great place to visit in the summer, so it feels like you have all the attractions to yourself 😏 🌊 Songhe West Lake · A local's hidden summer retreat This 4A scenic area is a true hidden gem! Surrounded by mountains on three sides and water on one, it covers a total area of 300 hectares, with nearly 60 hectares of vegetation. Thanks to the forest microclimate formed by the foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, walking inside feels like being in a giant natural air conditioner. I spent a whole day here. Here is my itinerary for your reference: Time Period | Activity | Experience Morning | Lake loop hike | Mountain and lake views paired with forest trails; so relaxing you won't want to leave Noon | Lakeside rest | Find some shade and just zone out; it's the peak of life Afternoon | Treetop adventure | Challenging but with solid safety measures in place Evening | Trendy beach | What a magical experience to watch the sunset on a lakeside beach in Northeast China I have to give a special shout-out to the treetop adventure course! With various obstacles set up between the treetops—tightropes, wooden planks, suspension bridges—you're protected by safety ropes the whole time. It's thrilling but not scary. While moving through the canopy, looking down at the azure lake water and looking up at the dense pine branches, that feeling of being 360-degree wrapped by nature is just intoxicating 🌿 🏛️ Hegang Museum · A time capsule of ten thousand years Many people only come to Hegang for the scenery, but the city's cultural heritage is far beyond imagination. The Heilongjiang River Basin Museum houses a complete history from ancient times to the modern era. What impressed me most was the exhibition area about the multi-ethnic integration on this land—the Manchu, Korean, and Hezhen ethnic groups have woven a rich tapestry of civilization on this black soil. Also, the Hongguang Korean Ethnic Folk Village is worth a detour. It's the only national-level ethnic minority village in Hegang, and the entire village features Korean-style architecture. The folk exhibition hall displays traditional houses, clothing, musical instruments, and sports equipment, and you can even pick fresh fruits and vegetables in the courtyards. That rural, laid-back feeling, far away from the city, really makes you slow down instantly. 🌅 70-meter Ping'an Pagoda · A panoramic view of the entire city This pagoda stands on the edge of the city. Climbing to the top offers a 360-degree view of all of Hegang—the buildings in the distance, the lake nearby, and the sea of forests further out are all in full view. I climbed up in the evening and caught the sunset just in time. The whole city was bathed in a warm orange glow, quiet, calm, and unhurried. Standing at the top of the pagoda in the breeze, I suddenly understood why many people say Hegang is a "healing" city. 📌 Tips for climbing the pagoda: The stairs inside are quite steep, so wear sneakers Going up half an hour before sunset is best for grabbing a spot The wide-angle mode on your phone is perfect for panoramic shots 🎬 Beishan summer night open-air cinema · Unexpected romance I have to highlight this!! Hegang has open-air movie screenings in the summer. A large white screen is set up in an open space on Beishan Mountain, with the light and shadows of old film projected onto it, and market stalls nearby. I watched an old domestic film that day, sitting on a small stool with snacks in hand, surrounded by locals who brought their children. That atmosphere—I can't explain why—just makes you feel incredibly relaxed. No noise from commercial tourist spots, no cookie-cutter souvenir shops, just light, shadows, a breeze, and a summer night ⭐ 🛏️ Accommodation experience This time, I chose a high-rise lake-view suite on the edge of the city. The floor-to-ceiling windows face Songhe West Lake, and the sight of the mist floating over the lake when I opened the curtains in the morning was breathtaking. The room was decorated warmly, and the bedding was thick, soft cotton. I was actually a bit cold sleeping under the covers at night. There was a rocking chair on the balcony where I sat to watch the stars every night. The night sky in Hegang is so clear that you can even faintly see the Milky Way—an experience you wouldn't even dare to imagine in a big city. 🔑 Practical information summary Songhe West Lake has free admission It's about a 1-hour drive from downtown Hegang to Luobei County There aren't many mosquitoes in the summer, but it's recommended to bring mosquito repellent Local prices are very friendly, offering great value for money Hegang feels like discovering a forgotten treasure—it's not trendy, not noisy, and not over-marketed. It just sits there quietly, waiting for you to come and experience its calmness and healing. If you're also looking for an "anti-rat race" travel destination, Hegang is the place to be 💚

🏰 Trip Highlights: A journey through time in the north Four distinct hidden gems in Heilongjiang: the picturesque, oil-painting-like Hengdaohezi; the historically significant Aihui Ancient City; Acheng, the birthplace of Jin culture; and Taipinggou Gold Town, brimming with frontier spirit. Avoid the crowds and capture cinematic shots with every click! 🎬✨ 🚗 Accommodation & Transport: Convenient and hassle-free · Hengdaohezi: We recommend staying at a homestay near the Russian Old Street, where opening your window reveals a fairy-tale world 🏠. It is accessible by direct train, and the scenery begins the moment you step out of the station. · Acheng: Experience a century-old Manchu house with a traditional heated brick bed (kang) for an authentic Northeast vibe 🔥. It is super convenient, just a 30-minute high-speed train ride from Harbin. · Aihui Ancient City: Located 100 meters southeast of the intersection of Tianshi Road and Gongchen Street in Aihui Town, Heihe City. We recommend staying in downtown Heihe for more options and better value, then chartering a car (approx. CNY 80/day) to travel to and from the ancient city. · Overall transport: A road trip is the best way to explore, allowing you to drive through forests and snowfields and stop whenever you like to capture the scenery 🛣️. Alternatively, you can combine high-speed rail with local buses. 🗺️ Itinerary: A four-day, four-city slow travel guide · Day 1: Hengdaohezi 🚂. Stroll along the Russian Old Street, visit the country's only fan-shaped locomotive depot (now the China Eastern Railway Transport Museum), and experience a century of history in front of the Church of the Mother of God. · Day 2: Acheng 👑. A blend of gold-panning history and the stunning scenery of the Longjiang Three Gorges. Climb to a high vantage point to see the river form a magnificent bend 🌊 (ideal for an in-depth road trip). 📸 Key Experiences: An immersive guide · Hengdaohezi: Wake up early to photograph the Russian-style houses in the morning mist. When light and shadow filter through the fan-shaped tracks of the locomotive depot, it feels like a romantic sigh from the industrial age 💡. · Acheng: Pause before the Yagou cliff carvings to admire the statues left by Jin Dynasty craftsmen, whose features have remained unweathered by a thousand years of wind and snow 🗿. · Aihui: Be sure to take a walk along the riverside trail, where you can truly feel the lingering warmth of history and the tranquility of the border 🌅. 🥢 Food Recommendations: Authentic Northeast flavors · Hengdaohezi Jinbing (thin pancakes): These are so thin they're translucent. Rolled with shredded potatoes, they are incredibly delicious and a staple of the local breakfast! 🌯 · Acheng Shazhucai (pork stew): With tender blood sausage and flavorful sauerkraut, this dish is the soul of the old town 🍲. · Border river fish: In Aihui or Taipinggou, the local "Sanhua Wuluo" fish are incredibly fresh and delicious, especially when slow-cooked in an iron pot 🐟. 💡 Practical Tips · Best season: Visit in winter! The combination of white snow, Russian architecture, and red brick walls is stunning. Autumn (September–October) is also top-tier for photography, with the mountains painted in vibrant colors 🍂❄️. · Clothing guide: Winters in the Northeast are seriously cold. A thick down jacket and snow boots are essential, and don't forget a hat, scarf, and gloves 🧤.

Honest truth❗️Hegang is truly stunning|but don’t blindly visit in August and September😭 Many people recommend Hegang for its relaxed vibe, healing landscapes, and off-the-beaten-path border scenery. I sincerely agree! Hegang’s beauty is its pristine, uncommercialized northeastern charm—green mountains, clear rivers, simple local life, and low-cost slow living. Everyone who’s been here remembers it fondly. But I have to be honest: Hegang is beautiful, but I really don’t recommend visiting in August and September! This isn’t to discourage you or say the city isn’t worth it. It’s just that the weather and travel experience during these two months don’t match its beauty and can easily ruin your impression of Hegang. I’ve put together a comprehensive Hegang guide, including reasons to avoid August and September, the best travel times, must-see attractions, food and lodging, and tips to avoid pitfalls. If you’re planning to visit Hegang, just copy this checklist✅ 🌧️ Here’s the key point: the real reasons why August and September aren’t recommended in Hegang (all honest) Many guides praise Hegang’s beauty year-round but don’t mention the downsides of these two months. Here’s my firsthand summary! August: rainy and muggy, greatly reducing the travel experience August is the peak rainfall month in Hegang, with frequent overcast and rainy days. It rains every few days—either light rain in the morning and heavy rain in the afternoon, or continuous drizzle all day. 1. Outdoor attractions are basically off-limits: Longjiang Three Gorges, Jinding Mountain, Mingshan Island, and Yadan River boardwalk are all open-air. Rain makes mountain paths slippery, the river breeze biting cold, and the boardwalk covered in moss and very dangerous. Hiking and photography are impossible. 2. Damp and muggy discomfort: Unlike the humid heat of southern China, August in Hegang is cold and damp. The air feels wet and sticky, stuffy during the day, and heavy with dew at night. Clothes won’t dry even after hanging overnight. 3. Mosquito infestation: The forests and riverbanks are full of mosquitoes. Regular repellent doesn’t work. After just five minutes outdoors, you’ll be covered in bites, making the experience very unpleasant. September: extreme temperature swings, dull scenery Many think September means autumn leaves, but early to mid-September in Hegang is awkward! 1. Scenic gap: Early autumn leaves just start to yellow slightly. It’s not the vibrant fall foliage of late autumn nor the lush green of summer. The mountain and river views are plain and unremarkable, so photos won’t stand out. 2. Temperature drop: Daytime is around 68°F (20°C), slightly cool, but nights plunge to single digits Celsius. The temperature difference between morning and night is over 10 degrees, making it easy to catch a cold and hard to dress appropriately. 3. Some activities stop: From late September, river cruises, outdoor creek trekking, and parts of the mountain and river walking trails begin to close, reducing available activities and fun. 💡 Summary: Hegang in August and September has no stunning autumn views, no refreshing weather, and limited outdoor activities. It’s a pure waste of your trip! ✅ The best travel times for Hegang (save this) 🌟 Top choice: late September to mid-October (top recommendation) Hegang at its peak beauty! The mountains are layered with colorful fall foliage—red maples, golden birch, and dark green pines. The Longjiang Three Gorges burst with autumn colors on both sides, and the river is clear and blue. Every photo looks like a painting. The autumn scenery here beats many popular fall destinations! The weather is clear and dry, the air crisp, and temperatures comfortable. It’s the best time for hiking, river views, and photography. 🌟 Second choice: June to July, early summer Avoid the rainy plum season peak. The forests are lush, the river crystal clear, and temperatures cool and comfortable without air conditioning. It’s a hidden gem for summer escapes, perfect for those who enjoy peace, creek trekking, and walking. 🌟 Winter healing season: December to February Experience the full northern winter wonderland! The border river freezes, Mingshan Island is covered in rime, and the pure white snow creates a soothing atmosphere. You can enjoy authentic northeastern snow hiking and winter fun. It’s quiet and peaceful with a strong sense of place. 🏞️ Must-see core attractions in Hegang | off-the-beaten-path, natural, and no regrets Hegang isn’t over-commercialized. It’s all natural, pristine beauty with few people and clean scenery, perfect for slow travel. 1. Longjiang Three Gorges Hegang’s landmark! The confluence of the Heilongjiang, Songhua, and Ussuri rivers creates a vast river surface with endless views and continuous mountain ranges on both sides. In late autumn, the colorful mountains reflect in the river, creating a breathtaking scene. ✅ Tip: Wear a jacket on sunny days—the river breeze is strong! The boardwalk is slippery, so wear non-slip shoes. 2. Mingshan Island A hidden border treasure island surrounded by rivers with excellent ecology! The island is lush and green with fresh air. You can get close to the border river views and see the border landscape from afar. It’s peaceful and very healing. ✅ Tip: Avoid in August and September. After rain, mosquitoes increase and paths get muddy. 3. Jinding Mountain scenic area A natural forest oxygen bar with dangerous cliffs and quiet woods. The mountain and river walking trail runs through the whole area, offering an excellent hiking experience. From the top, you can overlook the entire forest and fields with a wide view. ✅ Tip: Some viewing platforms have no railings. Be careful and don’t cross warning lines. 4. Yadan River wetland park Shallow water, green grass, and babbling streams make this a little-known natural wetland with very few visitors. It’s great for walking, photography, and enjoying rural mountain vibes with a unique atmosphere. ✅ Tip: The shallow areas have lots of moss. No barefoot walking in the water. Wear non-slip shoes. 5. Hegang museum A great place to learn about Hegang’s century-old mining history and border culture. The museum has rich collections and offers an immersive experience of this northeastern small town’s local life and heritage. ✅ Warning: Check opening status before visiting. Exhibits often change and the museum may close in autumn. 🍢 Must-try authentic local food in Hegang | locals’ secret picks with no tourist traps You must try authentic northeastern flavors in Hegang. Affordable, generous portions, and delicious without any tourist markups. 1. Hegang skewers A must-eat in Hegang! Different from other northeastern grilled skewers, the meat is fresh, tender, well-marinated, cut and grilled on the spot, with a perfect mix of fat and lean. ✅ Local favorite old shop: Xianghe BBQ, authentic flavor and great value. 2. Northeastern iron pot stew Dishes like stewed goose with potatoes, ribs with corn, and chicken with mushrooms. Cornbread sticks to the pot’s edge, the broth is rich, and the meat is tender. Hot and comforting, perfect for fall and winter. 3. Local river fish feast Thanks to the three rivers, the fish are fresh and plump. Steamed, braised, or soy-braised, all delicious with tender meat and no fishy smell. A local river delicacy you won’t find in the south. 4. Northeastern sticky bean buns and frozen pears Top local snacks! Soft, sweet sticky bean buns paired with cold, refreshing frozen pears deliver authentic northeastern flavors in every bite. 🚗 Comprehensive travel + lodging + packing tips ✈️ Transportation guide 1. From other cities: High-speed rail goes directly to Hegang station. It’s only 2.5 hours from Harbin, very convenient. 2. Getting around: Attractions are far apart. Rent an electric scooter or drive yourself, about 80 yuan per day. It’s free and easy. Taxi for the whole trip is not recommended. 3. Border tip: Hegang is a border city. Carry your ID card as some checkpoints may appear. 🏨 Lodging advice Choose accommodations in the city center! Well-equipped, many dining options, convenient transportation. Average prices range from a few dozen to over 100 yuan, offering great value. You can stay in clean, comfortable hotels for under 100 yuan—a perfect low-cost travel paradise. 👔 Packing and essentials 1. Spring and autumn: Layered clothing with a thick jacket for mornings and evenings to handle big temperature swings. 2. Outdoor must-haves: Non-slip sports shoes or creek trekking shoes (essential for mountain trails and wetlands), mosquito repellent, and sunscreen. 3. Practical items: Portable umbrella, thermos, some cash. Some suburban areas in Hegang have few public restrooms, so bring portable supplies. ⚠️ Final honest summary Hegang is truly an underrated northeastern treasure town. No crowded crowds, no inflated prices, no over-commercialization. Just healing landscapes, simple locals, and warm local life. But seriously, listen! Don’t come in August and September! Don’t come! Don’t come! Avoid the rainy, muggy, and dull off-season. Head to Hegang in late September for a stunning fall mountain experience. That’s the kindest way to enjoy Hegang✨

· *📍Heihe** · *Highlights** The heart is Heilongjiang Park. At dusk, you can see Blagoveshchensk, Russia, across the river—so close you can see the windows. In winter, the river freezes solid enough to walk on the ice. The surrounding villages near Aihui countryside park offer picking and camping worth a detour. · *Itinerary** Spend one day by the river and downtown, then head to the riverbank at dusk to watch the sunset. Reserve another half day for Wudalianchi or visit the Xinsheng Oroqen ethnic township to experience local customs. · *Food recommendations** At Lena Restaurant, try Russian-style Western dishes like borscht and stewed beef in a pot, which are very authentic. 😭 Who understands, family? Hegang has been held back by coal for too long After this trip, I just want to say these three hidden gems can’t stay hidden If I don’t share them, I’ll really keep it bottled up inside 🏞️ Longjiang Three Gorges National Forest Park This place is basically my mental sanctuary As soon as you enter, you see endless green that looks like it’s dripping with water The air is so sweet you want to bottle it up and take it with you Must-visit highlights: You have to climb to the top of Wangjiang Pavilion. The view is explosive You can see the entire big bend of the Heilongjiang River The river looks like a deep blue silk ribbon winding through the forest sea No filter needed for photos. The original shot looks like a masterpiece The forest boardwalk takes about two hours to walk Walking on pine needles feels soft and soothing—super healing for your feet You might even spot a little squirrel along the way. They’re super bold and almost tried to flip my bag Travel tips: Arrive before 8 AM when it’s less crowded and the light is perfect Start by shooting the morning mist at Wangjiang Pavilion, then walk the boardwalk Take your time and don’t rush. This place is perfect for a laid-back visit What to eat: There’s a farmhouse restaurant at the foot of the mountain. Their iron pot stewed river fish is amazing The fish is so tender your chopsticks can’t hold it. The soup with rice can easily fill three bowls Don’t forget to order a serving of flatbread. Dipping it in the fish soup is the soul of the dish ⚠️ Quick reminder: The mountain has big temperature swings, so bring a light jacket even in summer You absolutely must bring mosquito repellent. Don’t ask me how I know 🏖️ Luobei Mingshan Scenic Area A little-known secret spot on the Heilongjiang border Standing on Mingshan Island looking at Russia across the river feels like you could just reach out and touch it Must-visit highlights: You have to go to Mingshan Island. It’s a 10-minute boat ride There’s a boundary marker on the island that makes for a great photo op The riverside beach is surprisingly beautiful with fine, soft sand At sunset, the whole river turns orange Sitting by the shore daydreaming feels like you’re in an artsy film There’s also a lookout tower with a 360-degree view of both Chinese and Russian shores Travel tips: The best time to go is around 2 or 3 PM First, take a stroll around the island, then head back to the shore to wait for sunset Sunset lasts only about ten minutes, so find your spot early What to eat: The riverside night market’s grilled fish skewers are so fragrant you won’t want to stop eating Crispy on the outside, tender inside, sprinkled with cumin, paired with a bottle of Da Bai Li soda—amazing There’s also Russian ice cream with an insanely rich creamy flavor ⚠️ Quick reminder: Be safe on the boat and wear your life jacket Don’t try to swim across. The other side really is Russia, not a theme park prop Which of these places excites you the most? Grab your friends and head out soon~✨

The five most beautiful counties in Heilongjiang are like the essence of northern scenery. Saying “if you’ve been to two, you’ve already won big” is because they hide forests rivaling Switzerland’s, snow scenes comparable to Hokkaido’s, and auroras more magical than those in Northern Europe. This guide is specially prepared for those who want both scenery and value. Please keep it handy. · -- Top 1: Mohe City (Arctic Village) Why it’s legendary: The only place in China where you can see the aurora, a real-life Frozen. · Must-do: Chase the aurora around the summer solstice (low chance but worth it); experience -40℃ water freezing in winter; take a photo with the real Santa Claus at Christmas Village. · Deep dive: Rent an off-road vehicle to cross the Daxing’anling birch forest and feed reindeer along the way (Ewenki tribe). · Hardcore transport: Take the snow country train (K7039) from Harbin, sleep in a sleeper car, and wake up to endless snowy forests outside the window. · Avoid disappointment: The aurora is unpredictable. Stay calm—winter snow scenes alone are worth the trip. · -- Top 2: Fuyuan City (Heixiazi Island) Why it’s legendary: China’s easternmost point, where the country’s first sunlight shines. · Ritual: Watch the sunrise at 2 AM (summer) from Dongji Pavilion, more stunning than any island; take a boat tour at the confluence of the Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers to see the “mixed river dragon” phenomenon (clear separation of two rivers). · Hidden gems: Watch wild black bears on the island (feeding vehicle experience), then visit the border market on the way back to buy Russian chocolates (mixed genuine and fake, look for Russian labels). · Transport: Take a train from Jiamusi to Fuyuan Station, then a shared ride for 30 yuan per person to Heixiazi Island. · -- Top 3: Jiayin County (Dinosaur National Geopark) Why it’s legendary: The site of China’s first dinosaur fossil discovery, a Russian-style border town. · Contrast beauty: Dig for fossils at Longgu Mountain during the day (simulated experience), then watch smoke rise from Russian villages across the river at dusk, feeling like you’re in Siberia. · Exclusive experience: Take a boat tour of the “Longjiang Three Gorges” (the narrowest part of the Heilongjiang River), with emerald forests on both sides and autumn colors more vivid than Canada’s. · Food: Don’t miss the river fish feast (Aohua, Bianhua), with sweet-tasting meat. Local street stalls offer a filling meal for about 50 yuan per person. · -- Top 4: Jingpo Lake (Ning’an City) Why it’s legendary: China’s largest high mountain dam lake, with a rare ice waterfall spectacle. · Peak season: In winter (January–February), see the Diaoshuilou ice waterfall, like a crystal curtain hanging on the cliff. At 2 PM daily, watch cliff diving shows (real hardcore performances). · Summer alternative: Take a speedboat through the lake’s “eight scenic spots.” Visit the ancient Medicine Master temple for a lucky draw (a local secret). · Transport: Take a bus from Mudanjiang bus station next to the train station (1.5 hours direct to the north gate). · -- Top 5: Wudalianchi (Old Black Mountain) Why it’s legendary: A volcanic geological museum where you can soak in cold mineral springs while viewing volcanic craters. · Magical experience: Climb Old Black Mountain to see the flipping stone sea (lava solidified like black waves), then head down to the northern drinking spring for a glass of naturally carbonated mineral water (rusty taste but healthy). · Unique activity: In winter, kayak on Wenbo Lake (a non-freezing lake) with rime reflected on both shores, like traveling through the Elven forest in The Lord of the Rings. · Accommodation: Stay at a family inn at the foot of Medicine Spring Mountain, where the owner will teach you how to make a facial mask with mineral mud. · -- Golden route suggestion (visit 3 counties in a row): Harbin → (night train) Mohe → (flight to Heihe + bus) Jiayin → (train) Fuyuan. The whole trip takes 10 days with a budget of 5,000 yuan (including round-trip major transport). Safety tips: · In winter, Mohe and Jiayin require thick down jackets and snow boots (buy warm phone stickers at local supermarkets or your phone may freeze and shut down). · In summer, Fuyuan and Jingpo Lake have many mosquitoes, so bring strong insect repellent. · Border county navigation often fails. Download offline maps and ask older locals for directions (their Mandarin is more standard). One last honest word: The beauty of these counties depends 90% on the weather. Overcast days are ordinary; sunny days are legendary. Check the 3-day weather forecast before you go. If it’s rainy or cloudy, consider staying in Harbin instead. Good luck, light chaser! 🌌

Lugang hides mountains and seas, the border river reads ancient and modern|Hegang full-region three-day in-depth travel guide The Manchu name "Heligang" means a place where elk rest. This northern border town combines secret mountain forests, the China-Russia border river, a century of gold rush history, and coal city industrial memories. It has few tourists year-round, avoiding crowded hotspots. On one side is the pristine forest and flowing streams of the Lesser Khingan Mountains; on the other is the magnificent Heilongjiang River canyon dividing two countries. The late Qing gold rush town, open-pit mine ruins, and Korean ethnic customs intertwine. Mountains, water, border culture, and local life come together in one place. Each season offers unique scenery, making it a hidden gem for long-term travel in Northeast China. Food, lodging, and transportation guide Hegang’s attractions are divided into three main areas: nearby suburban forests, Luobei border river views, and urban cultural sites. Self-driving or chartering a car is the best way to get around. It takes 1.5 hours by car from the city to Luobei’s Longjiang Three Gorges and Taiping Valley. The riverside road offers wide views with plenty of spots to stop and enjoy the scenery. Parks and museums in the city are close together and easily connected by taxi or on foot. Choose lodging based on your needs: for night market snacks and convenient travel, stay in the Gongnong District city center business area, where barbecue and fish restaurants are concentrated. For an immersive mountain and water vacation, choose Russian-style wooden guesthouses in Taiping Valley or Mingshan Island, with windows facing the Heilongjiang River. You can enjoy morning river mist from your room. The region has a large temperature difference between day and night. The forest and riverside are windy year-round, so always bring a light jacket. For forest hiking and riverside boardwalks, wear slip-resistant, breathable sports shoes. Local cuisine blends Northeast stews, cold-water river fish, wild mountain vegetables, and Korean side dishes. Portions are generous and offer great value. Three-day essential slow travel itinerary Day 1: Forest oxygen bar stroll, valley secret lung cleanse On the first day, head to the nearby pristine forest to escape city noise. In the morning, visit the Xilin River Folk Culture Park. The secondary forest canopy blocks the sky, with streams running through the valley. A wooden boardwalk circles the lake, which is often shrouded in mist. You can wade in shallow water and hike through the woods. The park’s intangible cultural heritage workshops offer bamboo weaving and pottery experiences, immersing you in mountain tranquility. In the afternoon, stroll deeper into the forest, picking natural wild vegetables like Siberian ginseng and ferns. Rest and relax in a forest pavilion. In the evening, return to the city and visit Tianshui Lake City Park. The green trees surround the lake, the water sparkles gently, and locals walk and fish, full of small-town charm. At night, explore the night market and try Hegang’s signature skewers and local barbecue. Day 2: Border river canyon sightseeing, reading a century of gold rush history Spend the whole day at the Luobei border scenic area to unlock Hegang’s top attractions. In the morning, go to the Longjiang Three Gorges. Take a boat tour through Longmen Gorge, Jinlong Gorge, and Jinman Gorge, known as the most beautiful section of the Heilongjiang River. The wide river is flanked by green mountains. From the boat, you can see Russian forest villages across the river, with the river dividing two countries, creating a majestic scene. Visit Mingshan River Island to see the border marker and Heilongjiang Basin Museum, learning about the fishing and hunting culture along the entire border river. In the afternoon, visit Taiping Valley Gold Town, the core site of the late Qing gold rush in Northeast China. Restored ancient buildings include a bank, gold panning workshops, the magistrate’s office, and Empress Dowager Cixi’s palace. You can try panning for gold and learn about over 200 years of border gold mining history. The ancient town is filled with towering old trees and quiet courtyards, perfect for photos. At sunset, walk along the Heilongjiang riverside trail to watch the golden light spread across the water, with a gentle, healing evening breeze. Day 3: Coal city culture finale, understanding the city’s century-old roots The last day focuses on urban culture, connecting industrial sites and history museums for an easy end to the trip. In the morning, visit the Hegang Museum, free to the public. Its collection covers Jin Dynasty relics, Oroqen fishing and hunting culture, and a century of coal mining development. Highlights include dinosaur fossils and a miner restoration exhibit. The museum is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. In the afternoon, go to Hegang National Mining Park, the site of a large open-pit mine in Asia. The viewing platform overlooks the giant “Earth Eye” pit lake. Retired steam locomotives and old coal transport tracks add an industrial vibe, great for vintage-style photos and understanding the coal city’s history. At the end of the trip, shop at local supermarkets for mountain delicacies and Russian snacks as souvenirs. Enjoy an authentic iron pot stew with river fish to complete your journey. Authentic local specialties 1. Hegang medium-rare skewers: a city food icon. Thinly sliced beef grilled over charcoal, tender and juicy, served with green onions and dry spices. Must-try items include grilled bread with meat and bone marrow skewers. Widely available at night markets. 2. Iron pot stew with cold-water river fish: wild Heilongjiang crab and carp stewed in sauce. Cornbread sticks to the pot edge, soaking up the fish broth. Fresh without fishiness, suitable for all ages. 3. Wild mountain cold dishes: Siberian ginseng dumplings, cucumber kimchi, and fern salad. Fresh wild vegetables that refresh and balance the palate, suitable year-round. 4. Korean ethnic flavors: spicy bellflower root salad, rice cakes, and sweet-and-sour cold noodles, balancing the richness of stews. 5. Specialty snacks: miner’s flatbread, old-style spicy hot pot, frozen pear platter, and honeycomb coal-shaped desserts. Unique local treats to check off your list. Travel tips 1. Always carry your ID along the entire border. Scenic spots and border crossings check documents. Do not approach border fences casually and follow border management rules. 2. Xilin River and Taiping Valley forests have many mosquitoes. Use insect repellent before entering. Streams are slippery with moss; be careful when wading and avoid deep water. 3. Longjiang Three Gorges boat tours are weather-dependent. Service stops during strong winds. Confirm schedules in advance and allow extra waiting time. 4. Museums and exhibition halls are closed on Mondays. Plan your itinerary to avoid missing cultural sites. 5. Large temperature differences between day and night in forests and riverside areas. Summer evenings cool down noticeably. Elderly and children should dress warmly to avoid catching a cold. 6. On weekdays, forest and border river scenic areas have few visitors. Hiking, sightseeing, and photography are peaceful and comfortable. Off-peak travel is recommended. Vast forests hide elk shadows, a river of blue water reads the border town. Hegang’s original forests, magnificent border river, gold rush town, and industrial relics sketch a unique northern border landscape. You can get close to nature and water while understanding the deep history of the border and mining. It’s perfect for slow-paced, in-depth travel.

Cool valleys hidden in the forest, river breeze refreshing Hegang | Hegang summer cooling travel guide When high temperatures blanket most areas inside the pass, Hegang, located on the eastern foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, relies on its vast primeval forests, winding Heilongjiang border river, and natural mountain valley streams to create a unique cool environment for summer escape. The average temperature in midsummer is 21℃. The dense forest canopy blocks the sun, the river water stays icy cold year-round, and streams flow freely in the valleys. There is no sticky heat, offering a blend of pristine forest wilderness, border river views, and mining culture. With few visitors and a peaceful atmosphere, it is a little-known summer retreat in Northeast China. Food, lodging, and travel guide Hegang’s cooling spots are divided into three parts: forest scenic areas, Heilongjiang riverside scenic belt, and city leisure parks. Self-driving is the best way to explore. Mountain roads are smooth, surrounded by continuous forests, with plenty of spots to stop and cool off. City attractions are close together and easily reached by short taxi rides or on foot. There are two lodging options: for those who prefer lively street food and convenient travel, stay in the Gongnong District city center, where various restaurants and night markets are concentrated; for an immersive forest cooling experience, choose farmhouse inns around Taipinggou and Xilin River, where opening the window reveals vast forests and air conditioning is unnecessary at night. The mountain area has a large temperature difference between day and night. It is cool and comfortable under the shade during the day, but temperatures drop sharply by the river and in the valleys at dusk, so always carry a light jacket. Forest hiking and stream trekking are common, so wear non-slip, breathable long pants and sneakers to reduce mosquito bites. Local cuisine is light and fresh, featuring river fish, wild mountain vegetables, and Korean-style cold dishes that suit summer appetites. Three-day cool summer itinerary Day 1: Breathe fresh air in Xilin River forest, immerse in valley streams to cool off On the first day, head straight to the natural forest oxygen bar near the city, Xilin River Scenic Area. The entire forest is a secondary primeval forest with dense trees that block almost all sunlight. The temperature here is about 5℃ lower than in the city. Walk slowly along the wooden boardwalk, with streams flowing beside the path. The water comes from mountain springs and is icy cold. You can cool off by wading barefoot in the shallow areas. The clear lakes inside the park have shaded walking paths all around. Sitting on a lakeside bench lets you enjoy the constant mountain breeze without sun exposure. In the afternoon, avoid the midday sun by resting in a forest pavilion, picking local wild vegetables, and soaking in the natural mountain atmosphere. Return to the city in the evening to explore the night market and taste refreshing snacks. Day 2: Enjoy Heilongjiang border river views, cool off with the evening riverside breeze On the second day, visit Taipinggou Golden Ancient Town, located next to the main channel of the Heilongjiang River. The wide river surface continuously brings cool river breezes. Stroll slowly along the riverside path, gazing at the Russian forests across the river. The river mist keeps the air moist and comfortable. The ancient town is shaded by towering old trees, with quiet, cool old courtyards. You can explore the entire block without exposure to strong sun. Drive to the Longjiang Three Gorges viewing platform, climb up to overlook the winding border river. The green mountains stretch on both sides, and the strong winds in the gorge make it a natural spot for sightseeing and cooling off. In the evening, sit on the riverside steps to watch the sunset. The evening glow spreads across the river, and the breeze dispels the day’s heat. Day 3: City culture and leisure, relax indoors in the cool shade On the last day, avoid the outdoor heat with a low-intensity, shaded itinerary. In the morning, visit the Hegang Museum, which is air-conditioned and cool. The exhibits fully document Qing-Jin culture, mining development, and border history, letting you cool off while learning about the city’s heritage. In the afternoon, go to Tianshui Lake Park, surrounded by green trees. The lake mist cools the air, making a lakeside walk very pleasant. If time allows, visit Mining Park, where abandoned open-pit mines are covered with greenery. The valley is cool and shaded, and the unique industrial scenery is perfect for photos. End the trip by trying local specialty cold dishes and buying mountain delicacies as souvenirs before heading home. Summer cooling specialties Cold water river fish is a local summer signature. Heilongjiang river fish has tender meat and is cooked lightly with clear stewing or steaming, fresh but not greasy, perfect for hot summer days. The mountain’s natural wild vegetables are diverse. Siberian ginseng, bracken, and cucumber are served cold and refreshing, cleansing the palate. Korean cold noodles are sweet, sour, and icy, paired with spicy pickled balloon flower root, which quickly dispels heat. Street-side mixed dishes, chilled sour plum soup, traditional ice pops, and iron pot stewed vegetarian dishes are daily summer foods for locals. Night market fried skewers are lightly oiled and refreshing, paired with chilled kvass, creating a full summer cooling vibe. Helpful summer cooling tips Forest scenic areas have many mosquitoes. Spray insect repellent on your whole body before entering and wear long pants when possible. Stones in mountain streams are covered with moss, so be careful to avoid slipping when wading or playing in the water. Avoid deep water areas. The Heilongjiang riverside is windy year-round. Elderly people and children should add clothes promptly in the evening to avoid catching a chill. The museum is closed every Monday, so adjust your schedule to avoid wasted trips. Summer in the mountains often has short showers. Carry a sun and rain umbrella. The forest has no cover, so sudden rain can soak you. On weekdays, there are few visitors in the forest and by the river, making hiking, sightseeing, and photography more peaceful. Taipinggou Scenic Area is far from the city. It is recommended to start early and allow plenty of time for sightseeing. Bring drinking water and snacks to reduce back-and-forth trips. Vast green mountains bring coolness, and a clear river breeze carries you through the long summer. Hegang relies on its forest sea, border river, and mountain valley streams to create a quiet, cool summer retreat. Away from crowded crowds, you can enjoy water activities and fresh air while exploring border and mining culture. It is ideal for those seeking a relaxed, slow-paced summer short trip.

It’s not just Central Street that’s romantic. 🚂 Heilongjiang hides several ancient towns forgiven by time. They are quiet and old, yet timeless at a glance. ✨ Trip highlights · four ancient towns, each with its own charm 🚂 Hengdaohezi ancient town · Little Moscow brought by the train in an oil painting The highlight is the authentic Russian style, not just a quick visit. · Highlights: Stand before the huge fan-shaped tracks of the Chinese Eastern Railway locomotive depot. Light filters through the broken window frames — a sigh from the industrial era. Nearby, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin is a fully wooden, green-domed Orthodox church. You don’t have to leave the country to capture a Russian forest fairy tale. The town also has a non-commercial Russian old street with over 200 yellow-and-white wooden log houses, which look especially picturesque when covered in snow. 🕊️ Aihui ancient town · a city of heroes that listens to the wind The highlight is its deeply tragic and profound history, perfect for quiet reflection. · Highlights: This place is not about romance but the blood and spirit engraved in its bones. Visit the Aihui history exhibition hall to see the famous “Witness Pine” and Kuixing Pavilion. Stand by the Heilongjiang River and look across the shore — that spiritual shock is the true meaning of this city’s existence. 🏮 Huangjin ancient town (Taipinggou) · the fading wildness of the gold rush The highlight is the wild memory of the Eastern Migration and the stunning Heilongjiang Three Gorges. · Highlights: Stroll through the wooden log houses of Taipinggou Huangjin ancient town and see the life scenes of gold miners from a century ago. Be sure to climb the Heilongjiang Three Gorges, where the river makes a magnificent bend. When the forests are in full autumn color, it looks like a spilled palette. 👑 Jin Shangjing Huining Prefecture · the founding imperial city of the Jin dynasty The highlight is the desolate royal aura that spans a thousand years. · Highlights: The Jin Shangjing History Museum outside Acheng has impressive collections, but the most stunning sight is the ancient city ruins. The former palace halls are now just raised earth mounds and wild grass. The vastness of “palaces turned to earth” is breathtaking and incredibly photogenic. 🗺️ Route planning For an in-depth experience, a 4-day self-drive or slow train trip is recommended. Day 1: Arrive in Harbin, take the high-speed train directly to Hengdaohezi, stay in a wooden guesthouse, and try the tendon pancake. In Acheng, where Jin Shangjing is located, be sure to try the pig slaughter dish; the blood sausage is tender and smooth. Aihui and Huangjin ancient towns are near the border river, where the river fish—San Hua and Wu Luo—are incredibly fresh and flavorful, especially in iron pot stews. 📌 Travel tips Hengdaohezi is accessible by train, and the scenery is right outside the station, so self-driving isn’t necessary. Take a boat tour of the Heilongjiang Three Gorges, feeling the river breeze and mist on your face, experiencing the grandeur of the Sino-Russian border river; the second day, visit Jindingshan Geopark, strolling through the granite forest and primeval forest, breathing freely in this "natural oxygen bar"; the third day, explore this "home in the park," savoring the local barbecue skewers before returning home. · Must-Try Foods: Hegang skewers (the soul of local barbecue), Heilongjiang River fish, iron pot stew, and Northeast-style flatbread. · Tips: Hegang's average summer temperature is 20℃, making it a national-level "summer resort destination." The temperature on the border river cruise is 3-5℃ lower than in the city, and 5-7℃ lower in the forest area, so be sure to bring a windproof jacket. This place is still relatively undiscovered, with few tourists, offering a more authentic experience.

Just got back from Hegang! This seriously underestimated northeastern border city has amazing potential! This small city, surrounded by the Heilongjiang River and forests, is much more comfortable than I imagined. ✨ These moments will give you a new perspective on Hegang · Hegang National Forest Park: A natural oxygen bar in the city! I highly recommend the Xilin River Scenic Area; the water is crystal clear, and the banks are lined with dense birch forests. In autumn, the forests are ablaze with color—it's breathtakingly beautiful! 🍂 · Luobei Mingshan Island: A pearl on the Sino-Russian border river! Take a boat trip on the Heilongjiang River, and you'll see the Jewish Autonomous Oblast of Russia on the other side. The island's Russian-style park has matryoshka dolls and log cabins—perfect for taking photos! 🪆 · Taipinggou Gold Town: A century-old town that rose and fell due to gold mining! It retains its original wooden houses and gold mine ruins. The riverside boardwalk offers views of the Russian forest on the opposite bank, giving it a desolate, frontier feel. · Tongzigou Primitive Red Pine Forest: A rare primeval forest in Northeast China! The red pines are tall and straight, many hundreds of years old. The air in the forest is crisp and cool, bringing a sense of tranquility. 🗺️ 2 Days 1 Night, Slow Travel Itinerary in the Border Town · Day 1: Upon arrival, head straight to the Xilin River Scenic Area of Hegang National Forest Park for a hike and fresh air. In the afternoon, visit Beishan Park in the city for panoramic views. In the evening, try Hegang's signature skewers. · Day 2: In the morning, visit Luobei Mingshan Island (about an hour's drive from the city) and take a boat trip on the Heilongjiang River. In the afternoon, on the return trip, stop by Taipinggou Ancient Town to experience the lingering warmth of this century-old ancient town before leisurely heading home. 🥢 The Authentic Flavors of the Northeast Border Town · Hegang Skewers: The rising star of Northeast barbecue! Medium-rare, fatty and lean meat, with a touch of tendon, sprinkled with cumin and chili—perfect with beer! 🍢 · River Fish Stew with Tofu: Fresh fish from the Heilongjiang River, slow-cooked with local tofu, resulting in a white broth and tender meat that warms you to the bone. Sticky rice cakes: made from millet flour, steamed and dipped in white sugar, are a winter's craving for people in Northeast China.
