Dosan Seowon Confucian Academy, Andong

Joseon dynasty was heavily influenced by Confucianism teachings and culture, and many scholars were taught Confucianism teachings and knowledge. As one of the most prominent philosopher and Confucian scholar, Toegye Yi Hwang constructed this Confucian Academy to educate students around Andong region when he retired as government official in 1549. Students generally learned the Confucianism values and teachings like the Analects, Great Learning, the theology of the mean etc from their teacher Yi Hwang. In 2019 Confucian Academies in Korea was listed as UNESCO World Heritage, as Dosan Seowon being one of the 9 academies to be included. Located at a very secluded mountanous area, it might be a little inconvenient to travel there, but a bus was available to fetch tourists over. #andong#dosanseowon
