The 'Calvary Mountain' of the East—Meixian Cross Mountain

📍Geographic location: Paowuo Village, Meixian, Baoji City ⛪This church was founded in 1776 It is one of the top ten pilgrimage sites of the Roman Church❗️ 🕋History: Father Liu Jialu from Liujiaqiao, Chenggu County, Shaanxi, graduated from the Holy Family College in Naples, Italy, and was ordained before returning to China. Before his return, he visited the Pope and earnestly requested a pilgrimage site for this vast pastureland of China, which was graciously granted. After returning to China, he preached in various places in Shaanxi. Seeing that the geographical environment of the leopard's den in Meixian closely resembled Mount Calvary in Jerusalem, he drew a map and reported it to the Roman Curia. With the blessing of Pope Pius VI, it was named 'Cross Mountain' and was granted indulgence. Houses near the church have the inscription 'JHS' with a cross above their doors, where JHS stands for Jesus Hominum Salvator, indicating that the countryside here is predominantly Catholic.
