In the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), Li Wei, the then governor of Zhejiang, rebuilt the shooting pavilion here to review the eight-banner children of the garrison. During Qianlong's six trips to the south of the Yangtze River, in addition to inspecting the sea embankment and canal transportation, what he cared most about was reviewing the riding and shooting skills of the Qing army stationed in Hangzhou. Qianlong came to 'Tingwan Riding and Shooting' three times to review the cavalry and navy, repeatedly emphasizing 'Jie Rong Yi Gu Xun'. Tonight by the fragrant pavilion, there is a review poem written by Emperor Qianlong when he came to Hangzhou for the second time, asking the Qing soldiers to recite it at all times. 'The morning breeze is light, and the square is used to review the soldiers. Although it can be relaxed for a hundred years, it must be prepared in one day. The spirit encourages the bear brigade, and the bravery is like a group of trained crystals. Jie Rong Yi Gu Xun, who dares to talk about peace.' During the Republic of China, Tingwan Riding and Shooting was opened to the north as a public sports field and public education hall. After the founding of the People's Republic, it was opened as part of Lakeside Park.
