Tap Mun is located north of Sai Kung, nestled between Tai Tan Hoi, Chi Mun Channel, and Tai Pang Wan. It is a secluded island away from the city’s hustle and bustle. The most attractive feature here is the vast grassland facing the sea—lying on the soft grassy slope, listening to the gentle waves lapping the shore, and gazing at the endless blue sky, all worries naturally drift away with the breeze. Besides the natural scenery, Tap Mun’s history and culture are also unique. The island’s Tin Hau Temple was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and every year in the third lunar month, the Tin Hau Birthday Festival is held, featuring lion dances, qilin dances, and flower firecracker draws. The most special event is the Taiping Qingjiao, held only once every ten years; the last one was in 2019, and the next grand event will be in 2029.
