A place that has always been contested by military strategists throughout the ages, and where merchants gather and mingle

Tianbado is located in Jiangshan City, Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, at the junction of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, with a total area of about 183.37 square kilometers and an average altitude of 295 meters. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with features of both mountain and basin climates, a long history, and rich cultural landscapes. In 2017, it was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction. Tianbado, originally named Daocheng, is the first town from Fujian to Zhejiang, known as the 'lock of Fengxi'. The town preserves 36 large and intact ancient residential buildings and halls, and 11 public buildings such as Confucian temples, Dawang Temple, Wanshou Palace, and Wenchang Pavilion. The population is over 4,000, with 13 dialects and 142 surnames. There are many intangible cultural heritages, such as mountain songs, paper-cutting, and puppet manipulation. It is known as the 'kingdom of dialects', 'natural folk museum', and 'cultural enclave'. According to legend, at the end of the Tang Dynasty, to avoid the encirclement and suppression of the official army, Huang Chao led the rebel army to go south from Zhejiang, opened a 700-kilometer mountain road, passed through the present Tianbado, entered Fujian, and captured Fuzhou. Since then, Tianbado has become a place where troops have been stationed throughout the ages. This place has a long history, and most of the people come from immigrants from various places. It was an important town and post station for communication, transportation and trade between Zhejiang and Fujian in history. It reached its peak during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, with developed water transport and prosperous trade. The four major families of Cao, Yang, Jiang, and Jin were prominent at the time. Confucian and Taoist thoughts have the most prominent influence on the culture and architecture of this region. The landscape likes to use artistic languages such as wood carving and stone carving for creation, and often contains the concept of 'auspicious'.
