A historic palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1394 by King Taejo, the first king of the Joseon Dynasty. It was used as a royal palace for the next 200 years, and was expanded by the third king Taejong and the fourth king Sejong. It was destroyed by fire in 1553, but was rebuilt the following year by order of the 13th king Myeongjong. The palace buildings continued to be used as residences for the royal family and a place to conduct government affairs. After that, an additional 800 won is charged for every 10 minutes.
