Linji Hu Guo Zen Temple - Series One of Taiwan Temple Tours

Linji Hu Guo Zen Temple was established in 1897, during the early Japanese colonial period, as the fundamental dojo of the Japanese Rinzai School's Myoshin-ji in Taiwan. Inside the temple, the Mahavira Hall features a hip-and-gable roof with one main ridge, four sloping ridges, and four flying ridges, and all its tubular tiles are engraved with the character '鎮'. It is the largest wooden structure from the Meiji period still existing in Taipei, and inside the grand hall, the Sakyamuni Buddha, Manjushri Bodhisattva, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva are enshrined as the Three Honored Ones of Shakyamuni. Hu Guo Zen Temple is also one of Taiwan's Hundred Religious Scenes, and it is the only well-preserved wooden Buddhist temple in the style of the Southern and Northern Dynasties imitating the Song Dynasty in Taiwan.
