Yue Fei's Hometown Honors the Heroic Spirit | Tangyin Yue Fei Temple

There are three Yue Fei Temples, located in Tangyin, Henan (birthplace), Zhuxian Town, Kaifeng (battlefield), and Hangzhou (place of harm), to commemorate the anti-Jin hero Yue Fei. The construction time of Yue Fei Temple in Tangyin is unknown, but the main building preserved today was rebuilt in the first year of Ming Jingtai (1450) and has been maintained since then. The architectural complex is structured in two routes. The left route consists mainly of Jingzhong Archway, Mountain Gate, Imperial Stele Pavilion, Main Hall, Yue Yun Shrine, Four Sons Shrine, and Xiao E Shrine. The right route is for commemorating Yue Fei's parents and ancestors, with the remains of Yue Mother's Tattoo Shrine, Three Generations Shrine, etc. The two routes are interconnected. Jingzhong Archway is the gate of Yue Fei Temple, facing west, is a Ming-style wooden structure archway, with a nine-step four-angled heavy eave roof; the archway is engraved with the title 'Song Yue Zhongwu Wang Temple' given by Ming Xiaozong Zhu Youzhang, and the two characters 'loyalty' and 'filial piety' are engraved on the eight-character wall with bluestone steles, each character is 1.8 meters high, vigorous and dignified. At the entrance is the Shi Quan Shrine. In front of the shrine are five cast iron kneeling statues of Qin Hui, Wang, Wan Sizhen, Zhang Jun, and Wang Jun; inside the shrine is a statue of Shi Quan, holding a demon-slaying sword, glaring at the villains. Shi Quan was originally a military officer in Yue Fei's army and wanted to assassinate Qin Hui to avenge Yue Fei's death, but was killed by the treacherous officials. Through the Qianlong Imperial Stele Pavilion, we come to the main hall. Hanging in front of the main hall door are five huge plaques, namely 'Nai Wu Nai Wen', 'Hometown Zuzhou', 'Loyal Spirit Shows Min', 'Hundred Battles Jingwei', and 'Qiankun Zhengqi'. Among them, 'Hundred Battles Shenwei' and 'Loyal Spirit Wei Min' were inscribed by Emperor Guangxu and Empress Dowager Cixi of the Qing Dynasty. In the center of the main hall is a colored statue of Yue Fei, over a foot tall, heroic and imposing, with a righteous aura. Hanging above is the 'Return My Rivers and Mountains' gold-plated giant plaque, written by Yue Fei. The beautifully painted beams and columns in the hall reflect the people's respect for Yue Fei. The other side halls are dedicated to Yue Fei's generals, children, parents, and ancestors, with recent statues that are quite lifelike. ——Travel tips—— ▫️Opening hours: 08:00-17:30 every day ▫️Tickets: Pre-book for 38 yuan. ▫️Tourism and protection level: 4A scenic spot, the 5th batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
