Taihao Mausoleum Scenic Area

Fuxi, also known as Taihao, is an ancient emperor from the legendary era of ancient Chinese history, ranking first among the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. Fuxi culture originated from the knotting practice of recording events in primitive times, which had a significant impact on the development of Chinese civilization. Therefore, Fuxi is also known as the 'Progenitor of Chinese Culture'. The Taihao Mausoleum is dedicated to Fuxi, the 'Progenitor of Chinese Culture', hence it is acclaimed as 'the foremost mausoleum under heaven' and is a sacred site for ancestral worship of the Chinese nation. The mausoleum covers an area of about 580,000 square meters, divided into three imperial cities: the Inner City, the Outer City, and the Forbidden City. The entire mausoleum consists of three halls, two towers, two corridors, two blocks, one platform, one altar, one pavilion, one shrine, one hall, one garden, seven observatories, and sixteen gates. The Taihao Mausoleum has a history of over 6,500 years, with temple mausoleums existing since the Spring and Autumn period. It continued to expand and develop, and by the Ming and Qing dynasties, it had its basic layout and was revered by feudal rulers of successive dynasties. According to historical records, emperors throughout the ages dispatched officials to offer sacrifices at the mausoleum a total of 52 times.
