Mount Putuo

Mount Putuo, located in Putuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, on the southern edge of Hangzhou Bay, in the eastern waters of the Zhoushan Islands, is one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, and also the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva educates all beings. Mount Putuo is diamond-shaped and is a small island among the 1390 islands of the Zhoushan Islands. It looks like a dragon lying in the sea, with an area of 12.52 square kilometers. It faces Shenjiamen of the Zhoushan Islands across the sea, and is known as the 'Buddhist Country of Sea and Sky' and 'Holy Land of the South Sea'. It is 8.6 kilometers long from north to south, about 3.5 kilometers wide from east to west, and has a coastline of 30 kilometers. The highest point is the Buddha's Top Mountain Sky Lantern Tower in the middle, with an altitude of 291.2 meters, extending in all directions. The west is Tea Mountain, the north is Fulong Mountain, the east is Qinggu Lei Mountain, the southeast is Jinping Mountain, Liantai Mountain, Baihua Mountain, and the southwest is Meicen Mountain. The main peaks are all between 100 and 200 meters, undulating. In 1982, Mount Putuo was rated as a national key scenic spot. In 2004, Mount Putuo was rated as an ISO14000 national demonstration area. On May 8, 2007, Zhoushan Putuo Mountain Scenic Spot was officially approved by the former National Tourism Administration as a national 5A tourist scenic spot. The main attractions of Mount Putuo are three temples: Puji Zen Temple (Front Temple), Fayu Zen Temple (Back Temple), Huiji Zen Temple (Buddha's Top Mountain Temple), collectively known as the Three Zen Temples of Mount Putuo, framing the Guanyin Dojo of Mount Putuo. The three treasures of Mount Putuo, also known as the three treasures of the Buddhist country: the Nine Dragons Algae Well, the Yangzhi Guanyin Stele, and the Dabao Pagoda (Prince Tower). The three stones of Mount Putuo: Pantuo Stone, Heart Stone, Two Turtles Listening to the Dharma Stone. The three caves of Mount Putuo: Chaoyang Cave, Chao Yin Cave, Fan Yin Cave.
