🗓️ Durdle Door , July - 25 Degrees Celcius 🏨 Stay @Bournemouth 🍴Pack Food Hi All, after 10k views and hundreds of comments on my last Durdle Door which was very small i wanted to weight in the details for the Durdle Door only due to lots of questions raised. Thanks for all the interest ❤️✨ ❓How to go to Durdle Door ? 1. The place has a huge car park. You can drive in and daily park is around 15£ and goes up with time. 2. Busses from Bournemouth or any near coast. These hop in busses are really nice and day go over every coast there. It was around 18£ when i checked but many options. ❓Walking there from the car park ? A bit rough road.10-15 mins walk. On the hill. Left and right shores are there for the Durdle Door. The historic door is on the right hand one. While the left hand one is a beautiful, less crowded one seen on pictures. ❓What shoes to wear in the Durdle Door ? Its a bit rocky there but not harsh ones in the beach itself. Sea shoes are always a good to have. But wear shoes for your travel from car park to the shore itself. Its a 10-15 min walk and rocky. ❓What to eat there ? I would suggest packing sandwiches as there aren’t any restaurants nearby. You can find one just at the exit but haven’t tried. There are small caravans selling stuff but they open late times. Have limited options of crackers and sandwiches anf they are still at the car park so you can’t buy anything in the beach. ❓Where to stay ? I stayed at Bournemouth, 30 minutes away from the Durdle Door and travelled there with car. I also loved Bournemouth and The Hotel Best Western Plus the Connaught. You can stay at Swanage or Weymouth or Lyme Regis but i found them to be more expensive when compared. ❓Did you swim ? Yes, i did. It was 19 degrees water temperature. A bit chilly for my liking but clean and amazing one it was. Probably if the UK ever sees above 30 i will go there for the warmer swims. Some of my favourite time here costs absolutely nothing. Walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, explore the South Bank, wander Covent Garden, cross the Thames on foot, or spend a couple of hours inside one of London’s brilliant free museums. 📍 My favourite way to explore: Pick one part of London as your starting point, save a few places you definitely want to see, and leave some space in the day to wander. Giving yourself time to actually look around makes it feel like a completely different city. 🚌 And sometimes the London moment is as simple as this one: sunshine, something cold to drink, a red bus passing behind me, and nowhere I urgently needed to be. 🙏 Taking advantage of the Mountain Day and Obon holidays in Japan, I visited Katsuo-ji Temple in Osaka to express my gratitude. My last visit was back in late 2021! This time, I came to give thanks for a smooth expat assignment in the UK over the past three years. I also made new wishes—for a smooth transition moving back to Japan for work next year, my children's studies, and our daily life. It felt like about a third of the visitors there spoke with Taiwanese accents. At times, it felt just like visiting a temple back in Taiwan. When did it get so popular?! 😅 🏮 Katsuo-ji is a temple with a history spanning around 1,300 years. Back in the Heian period, monks prayed here for the Emperor's recovery from illness, which eventually gave rise to the belief in "winning luck" (Katsu-un). Today, the temple is famous for being completely covered in red Daruma dolls! You'll spot these little Darumas everywhere imaginable—on stone walls, steps, railings, under trees, on eaves, and next to stone lanterns. ✌️ "Winning luck" isn't about defeating others; it's about overcoming your own weaknesses. The Daruma doesn't just magically grant your wishes; rather, it symbolizes a promise you make to yourself. Most commonly, people pray for things like passing entrance exams, changing careers, starting a new business, hitting major sales targets, winning competitions, or getting a fresh start in life! 🙏 First, you buy a Daruma doll in the size that suits you, write down your goal, and paint in one of its eyes. This signifies, "I am committed to working hard for this." Once your goal is achieved, you paint in the second eye and bring it back to Katsuo-ji as an offering to express your gratitude! 📍 Regular visiting hours are 08:00–17:00. It takes about 20 minutes by bus from Minoh-kayano Station, costing 800 yen per person one way. If you're traveling as a family of four, taking a taxi to and from the station is a great option. In our experience, it costs around 3,500–3,600 yen one way. When heading back, the bus line is long and the weather is incredibly hot, so splitting a cab among four people is definitely worth it!

Staffa is one of those Scottish places that looks almost unreal. The island is famous for its hexagonal basalt columns and Fingal’s Cave, and in season you can also see puffins. 🐧🌊 There are three main ways to visit: 1️⃣ From Oban 🚢 The easiest option if you’re staying on the mainland. You can take a full-day tour combining Mull, Staffa and Iona. Current tours are around 10 hours, with prices from about £96–£102. 2️⃣ From Tobermory 🛥️ Stay on Mull and take a boat directly from Tobermory. Wildlife tours to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles take around 6 hours, currently from about £90. 3️⃣ From Fionnphort or Iona 🚤 This is a great option if you’re already exploring southern Mull or Iona. Staffa trips take around 3 hours from £45, while the longer Staffa + Treshnish Isles trip takes around 6 hours from £85. ⭐ Why go? For me, it was the combination of Fingal’s Cave, the incredible basalt columns, open sea and wildlife that made Staffa so memorable. If you love dramatic landscapes, fresh sea air and hiking with a view, the Seven Sisters should definitely be on your UK list. 🤩 Located along the Sussex coast between Seaford and Eastbourne, the trail follows a spectacular series of white chalk cliffs overlooking the English Channel. 🌊🤍 The famous “Seven Sisters” are the succession of chalk cliffs rising and falling along the coastline. From the trail, you get incredible views of the cliffs stretching into the distance, with the deep blue sea on one side and the green English countryside on the other. 🥾 The hike is as beautiful as it is rewarding. Expect plenty of ups and downs as you cross the cliffs — it isn’t completely flat! But every climb is worth it when you reach the top and discover another breathtaking viewpoint. 📸 My tip: Take your time and don’t just focus on reaching the end. Stop regularly for photos, especially when you get a wide view of the coastline and all the cliffs lined up in front of you. ⚠️ Important: Stay well back from the cliff edges. Chalk cliffs can be unstable, and erosion is constantly changing the coastline. Edinburgh Castle is rightly known all around the world and is a tourist hotspot in Britain. However whenever I have been there I have found it all a little underwhelming. This is despite my interest in history. This is down to my own personal preferences though. Firstly I don't like dull, wet and grey weather which is unfortunately the norm in Edinburgh and Scotland most of the days of the year 😂 Secondly I find the castle looks less like a castle and more like an ugly large house built on a hill with many additions over the years. The result is not a very uniform or coherent structure but rather a mess. The Royal Mile does attract the crowds and can be a lively place with atmosphere, especially at Hogmanay the Scottish New Year. However it is a tourist trap with over priced shops. #edinburgh Don't get me wrong! Many people love Edinburgh Castle and all it represents. Its' just not my cup of tea.
