Taking over the lakes once again, Kendal Calling returns this July with yet another sell-out line-up. But with a backdrop of rolling green hills, it’s not just the artists that get all the attention. Nestled in the stunning surroundings of The Lake District, it’s a strong contender for Britain’s most beautiful festival. And with many famous acts taking to the stage, along with an abundance of exciting attractions on offer, it could be up there with the most fun, too. Beyond the live music and picture-perfect views, you can find amazing street-food stalls offering both local and international dishes, a lively ale festival where you can enjoy a tipple or two, pamper lounges for some mid-festival TLC, and boutique camping sites to rest your head after a day of singing and dancing – and that’s just the start.

This year, Kendal Calling will take place from Thursday 27th July to Sunday 30th July, although separate tickets are required for the Thursday. If you’re wondering what time to arrive, the gates open at 9am on the Thursday, 8am on the Friday and 10am on the Saturday and Sunday, with last entry at 9pm. The campsite will close at 2pm on Monday 31st July. The 2023 line-up is just as exciting as ever, with the likes of Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Example and Annie Mac taking to the stage.

Don’t let the name fool you, as Kendal Calling is now held at Lowther Deer Park near Penrith. Easy to get to, you can travel to Kendal Calling via coach, train or car. You can get a coach from a range of destinations across the UK including Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh. If you’re travelling by train, the nearest station to Kendal Calling is Penrith, which is located just 15 minutes away. The festival offers a shuttle bus service that will take you direct from the train station to the festival, too. Alternatively, you can also travel by car, with parking passes available to purchase in advance.

Kendal Calling is safe for all the family, with allocated areas for children such as ‘Kids Calling’ where you can find plenty of activities to keep them occupied. To ensure it’s a safe environment for everyone (including the wildlife), there are a range of prohibited items. You can see a full list here. When it comes to packing, it’s all your usual festival things - think tents and pegs, sleeping bags, torches, toiletries and reusable water bottles. And in true British summer style, you have to prepare for all possibilities, with both sun cream and raincoats a must. Due to the hilly and often muddy location of the festival, comfortable footwear is also advised. If you need any more advice, Kendal Calling have partnered up with Festival Safe to help you get festival-ready in no time.

At Kendal Calling, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to accommodation. General camping, which is included in the price of your ticket, offers that true festival experience – just bring a tent and pitch it up. Whether you’re there for the partying or the views, there’s a range of general campsites to choose from. For a slightly more elevated festival experience, Emperors Field and Great Plains are the festival’s upgraded campsites, with free hot showers, parking and your own arena entrance. Don’t fancy pitching a tent? Head to Tangerine Fields where you can enjoy pre-pitched tents for hassle-free camping. For those looking for a little more luxury, Kendal Calling’s boutique camping village will be right up your street. More like glamping than camping, you can expect memory-foam mattresses and cosy blankets for the best night’s sleep. There’s also a live-in vehicles section for those with their own campervans and caravans. And if camping just isn’t your thing, you can find a range of hotels and guesthouses in nearby Penrith.
