Lofoten Island Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Norway | The end of the world, the Lofoten Islands
| The end of the world, the Lofoten Islands. 🇳🇴 Lofoten, a paradise within the Arctic Circle, is rated by National Geographic as the second most beautiful archipelago in the world and described by Lonely Planet as 'breathtakingly beautiful'. It is, along with Senja, one of the most beautiful and worthwhile places to visit in Norway in my opinion!
Who wouldn't yearn for those isolated colorful little houses🏠? Lofoten is just that, solitary and peaceful, with beautiful and gentle lakes and mountains. How should you play in Lofoten? I recommend renting a car🚖 to have the most fun touring the entire island!
📸 About the attractions
❶ Hamnoy
Google Maps location 'Fotospot Hamnoy', the cover of Lonely Planet, better wide-angle shooting effect on the east side of the bridge.
❷ Olenilsoya kystfort
Location 'Roastad Retro Rorbuer', a few red houses, walk up the mountain trail next to the houses for a better view, especially when the lights of the fishing village are on in the evening.
❸ Å town
The end of the Lofoten Islands, the town with the shortest name in the world, with distant mountains looming, giving a sense of extremity.
❹ Skagsanden beach
The desolate beach along the E10 highway.
❺ Yellow House
Location 'Anita’s Sjomat', the popular yellow house is right next to it, nothing special about the house itself, but the surrounding scenery is not bad, worth a walk.
❻ XHenningsvaer Stadium
The football field is at the end of Henningsvaer, with nice scenery along the way, a romantic journey.
🚘 Route suggestion: Lofoten + Senja Island + Tromsø
🌈 Travel Tips
It is suggested to visit these places together, each with its own charm, no need to worry about aesthetic fatigue😻
Tromsø needs no introduction, stroll through the colorful streets of houses🏠, the design-savvy Arctic Cathedral, take the cable car🚠 to overlook the fjord, both the live view and the photo angles are good
Senja Island, which is on the way from Tromsø to Lofoten, is a perfect stopover. The mountains🏞 on Senja are higher, the terrain is more varied, and there are more viewing platforms, offering a more visually impactful experience

Winter's ultimate scenery not to be missed: Norway's Lofoten Islands.
As a child born in the south, the world of ice and snow has always been a place I longed for, but I also maintain a sense of awe and distance from it, knowing full well that I cannot withstand extremely low temperatures. That's why I have visited so many countries, with destinations mostly in the southern parts of the earth or in Europe that are not too cold. However, when I thought about the rare opportunity to come to the Netherlands, it seemed a shame not to visit Norway, so I decided not to give up this opportunity that was right in front of me.
🚶🏻♂️Departing after New Year's Day, Norway is currently experiencing polar night, with less than five hours of daylight. If it snows or rains, it may be gloomy all day long. Be mentally prepared, because after 3 pm, the whole earth falls into darkness. Also, this period is not the peak tourist season on the island, and many indigenous people will leave. Therefore, once it gets dark, you may not see many people even if you drive for a long time.
🚗When coming to the Lofoten Islands, be sure to rent a car for self-driving. Especially in this season, there is almost no public transportation, and driving is the most convenient option. Also, be sure to choose a four-wheel drive car, equipped with snow tires, and get full insurance, which is related to life safety. I rented a car at Evenes airport, which is relatively close to the Lofoten Islands. I also have friends who rented a car from Tromsø and drove all the way, which can be more tiring.
📍My trip in Lofoten lasts for five nights and six days, which is relatively tight. I will stay in three popular destinations on the islands: Andøya, Henningsvær, and Reine, and then explore from these three points. This way, the driving distance each day won't be too long, and I can experience the local customs and culture to the fullest. Among the three places, my favorite is still Henningsvær, which has a iconic football field at the end of the world, snow-capped mountains, and a larger city half an hour's drive away where I can buy materials and find enough restaurants.
🦪During the winter season, many restaurants in Rovaniemi are closed due to the off-season for travel. In addition, the cost of traveling in northern Europe is already higher than in the south, and even ordinary restaurants have an average cost of around 200-300 RMB per person. Therefore, buying relatively cheap raw materials in supermarkets and cooking for oneself is a more worry-free and cost-effective way.
📸As long as it's a good day, the Isle of Rafton is really photogenic, with an extreme purity and coolness that will make you unable to stop your camera. Many times, you can take very beautiful photos with just your phone. My camera model is Canon R5, and I basically used the 24-105 lens throughout the journey.
Next winter, looking forward to the opportunity to say goodbye to the Nordic again!
Lofoten Islands, Norway
The Lofoten Islands are a dream destination for many travellers from all over the world. This archipelago offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. Amazing Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach is one of the most spectacular places in Iceland. It's a black sand beach littered with huge chunks of ice that have broken off from the nearby Jökulsárlón glacier and were carried all the way to the beach. You can explore the area on foot or join a short boat tour. Bring a bottle to carry some of the melting water, which is so pure and delicious. Wildlife enthusiasts will also find many birds here.
Diamond Beach is located in Jökulsárlón on the south coast of Iceland. You can get there on your own with a rental car, or join one of the daily tours. The area itself is open all day and is free of charge, though you do have to pay for the boat tour.
The beauty of Diamond Beach knows no bounds
It feels like Iceland has suddenly turned into summer.
The sun is so warm that it makes one drowsy,
and the strong winds scatter everything around.
It's a perfect representation of a day in Icelandic weather.
Sitting on Diamond Beach, basking in the sun,
I feel such bliss from the sunshine.
The view before me
always distracts me from concentrating.
The glimmering waves and the leisurely seals
just like that, time is wasted,
and I feel completely justified in doing so.
ps: Diamond Beach isn't only a place to see ice in winter,
it's possible to find ice there all year round.
It's just a matter of how much or the size of the ice blocks.

Approaching Diamond Beach, anticipation surged within us like the crashing waves against its shimmering shores. As we stepped onto the black volcanic sands, our eyes were drawn to the glistening icebergs scattered along the coastline, like precious jewels adorning the beach. The contrast of the translucent ice against the dark sand created a mesmerizing tableau, a symphony of light and shadow dancing upon the water's edge. Walking amidst the glittering ice sculptures, we felt a sense of wonder and reverence for the raw beauty of nature, each iceberg a fleeting reminder of the eternal dance between ice and sea. Standing on Diamond Beach, with the icy waves lapping at our feet, we were reminded of the delicate balance of the natural world and the preciousness of each fleeting moment.
Looking ahead, our next dream destination beckons from the lush jungles of Costa Rica. We envision exploring hidden waterfalls nestled amidst tropical foliage, encountering exotic wildlife in their natural habitats, and immersing ourselves in the vibrant culture of this Central American paradise. Costa Rica's abundance of natural beauty and commitment to conservation promise an unforgettable adventure, where every moment is an opportunity to connect with the world around us and deepen our appreciation for the wonders of the Earth. It's a destination that resonates with our sense of adventure and desire to explore, inviting us to embark on a journey of discovery and rediscovery amidst the lush landscapes of the rainforest.

Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island and mainland commune in Normandy, France. The island lies approximately one kilometre off the country's north-western coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches and is 7 hectares in area.
Saint-Aubert, the Bishop of Avranches, founded Mont Saint Michel in 708 after having seen the archangel Saint-Michel appear in his dreams three times.
The island was originally called Mont-Tombe but became known as Mont-Saint-Michel in the 8th century, when St. Aubert, bishop of Avranches, built an oratory there after having a vision of the archangel St. Michael. It rapidly became a pilgrimage centre, and in 966 a Benedictine abbey was built there.
