My impression of Spain was that it’s a country full of relaxation. Until one month before departure, I opened the Alhambra Palace official website and found that every day during the 8 days in Spain was fully booked… Still not giving up, I planned a day in Granada, refreshed the website daily, praying for last-minute tickets, and even purchased a ticket-snatching service. However, even on the morning of the day in Granada, there were no tickets, so I had to drive to Malaga… In Spain, even in winter, popular attractions still require advance booking, and most bookings must be for specific time slots, which is really unfriendly for spontaneous travelers. After being captured by Christians in 1085, it became a royal residence. In 1474, Isabella I was crowned queen of Castile here. This queen achieved great success by uniting Spain through her marriage to King Ferdinand II of Aragon, marking the beginning of the Spanish Empire era. They are known as the Catholic Monarchs. This massive structure divides Segovia in two and is known locally as the “Gate of Heaven.” Roman aqueducts remain in other parts of Spain, such as Mérida on the Silver Road. But in terms of scale and grandeur, Segovia’s aqueduct is unparalleled, making it one of the most spectacular Roman Empire relics in Spain. As the saying goes, “water flows downhill, people move uphill.” The aqueduct’s most remarkable feature is that it transports water from a low source to a higher elevation through a complex, gravity-driven system without any mechanical power. Back then, the high water demand came mainly from Roman public baths, fountains, and private homes, which led to the invention and use of the elevated aqueduct. Indeed, material needs shape city construction, while spiritual needs guide architectural style. 😋 Segovia cathedral Located beside a narrow rocky ridge, the old town is dominated by the cathedral’s tall tower. Walking into this place, football screenings are probably the last thing you'd expect. The venue feels far more like an upscale cocktail bar than a typical sports spot, which is exactly why the experience ended up being such a pleasant surprise. With the FIFA season in full swing, they’ve added live match screenings, and somehow the combination works remarkably well. Instead of the usual loud and crowded sports-bar atmosphere, you get to enjoy the game in a much more comfortable and stylish setting while still sharing the excitement with fellow fans. Bar Nevado is a beautifully designed venue with a unique open-air courtyard layout and a central bar that immediately catches your attention. It’s not just a place for drinks either they also serve coffee and great food, making it a versatile spot that works well at any time of day. The overall setting is stylish, welcoming, and easily one of the better-looking places to spend an afternoon or evening. With the FIFA season underway, they’ve also made space for live match screenings, which has turned out to be a great addition for football fans. Many matches take place during the daytime, and that conveniently overlaps with their match-day promotions, making food and drinks much more affordable than usual. After trying a few different venues for watching football and hanging out with friends, this ended up being one of our favorite spots. This is a great café-bar that works really well throughout the day. In the daytime, it functions as a calm coffee shop, but by evening it transitions into a lively bar with a strong local crowd and a much more energetic atmosphere. The food is already tried and tested, with a solid reputation for consistency. The only newer addition is that they’ve started showing live match screenings. Unlike many other places that host screenings but tend to overcharge or serve underwhelming food, this spot manages to keep things balanced. It’s a great place to arrive a bit early during happy hours, enjoy good food at reasonable prices, and then settle in as fans gather for the match. The theatre seats 6,000 spectators and its architecture is impressive: from the “cavea” where the public sits to the imposing “scenae frons” facade. The Roman Theatre of Merida is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is still active today, being the stage for the renowned International Classical Theatre Festival.
