Trip Moments Recommendations
#Beihai Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Beijing | In November, it is advisable to visit Beihai Park to see the lake and autumn scenery
During the golden autumn, Beihai is in its most colorful period, with colorful leaves, ancient garden buildings, and clear water with remaining lotus, forming a brilliant and colorful unique autumn scene. Jingxin Studio is quiet and elegant, Xitian Fanjing Temple is majestic, the Nine-Dragon Wall is exquisitely unparalleled, the Five-Dragon Pavilion winds over the water, Xiaoxitian is golden and brilliant, and so on. Everywhere in the north of Beihai is a scenic spot, and there is also the leisure under the roots of the imperial city. Local residents gather in groups, practicing Tai Chi next to the Nine-Dragon Wall, and dancing under the ginkgo trees. Don't miss the lakeside benches before leaving the north bank, it's a happy thing to rest or daze with the lake and autumn scenery. Then take a boat on the lake, go to Jionghua Island to climb the White Pagoda and look at the scenery, descend from the south, look back at this towering white pagoda on Yongan Bridge, and then go to see the brilliant Tuan City. If you have enough time, Jingshan Park is not far away. At sunset, you can look west from the top of the mountain, and it is another beautiful view of Beihai. 🚶♀️ | Route reference: Enter from the north gate - Jingxin Studio - Xitian Fanjing - Nine-Dragon Wall - Five-Dragon Pavilion - Xiaoxitian - Jionghua Island - Tuan City - Exit from the south gate

Bright Beihai Park
The Beihai park is one of my favorite places in Beijing. It’s always nice to stroll around and take in the views and have a break from the city life. It’s also very fun to rent a small (pedal)boat to cruise around the lake. There are great walking paths with many benches around and a few colorful and serene temples to visit. You can also hike to a higher point for a view over the lake. There are many facilities (toilets, little shops, food/snacks/drinks etc) around. Great for young and old. ##Beihaipark ##lake ##boats ##temples ##relaxing
The Beautiful Beihai
#visitbeijing #tripblazers #urbanexplorer
A beautiful place to visit on a warm afternoon in Beijing is Beihai park. Just in between the Drum tower and Imperial Palace is where this green space is situated. We loved spotting all the old palace structures dotted around the park, and even got to find the hidden 9 dragon tablet which is tucked away in some trees. Climb up to the Tibetan style mountain tower for a beautiful view of the forbidden palace.
The park is only 5 yuan entry in off peak season (but still only 10 yuan per person in peak season starting in April) we highly recommend a visit.
BEIHAI PARK | Beijing
A beautifully windy afternoon at the BeiHai Park.
Getting There - I took bus number 128 from CiQuKou Metro station bus stop to BeiHai Park Bus Stop.
Attractions - Everywhere you turn there is something new and even more beautiful to see.
Shopping & Food- In the park I saw a gift shop where you can get souvenirs and there were also 2 restaurants from what I saw. There was also a small shop where you can get drinks, snacks and those ice creams that are shaped like the pink spring flowers in the park.

spend the afternoon walking around the lovely gardens. So many different flowers to see. You can take a boat around the lake and climb up the hill to see the stunning white pagoda.

The other side of Beihai Park
You may have heard of Beihai Park with its huge lake and white stupa. It's a beautiful park but very busy with tourists and locals. When you buy your park ticket don't forget to visit the temples and rooms near the entrance.
It's not obvious, but up up some stairs to the side you'll find a calm area with a handful of beautifully decorated buildings. We went during golden week and it was deserted, in contrast to the park. There are lots of picturesque spots here to take photos or enjoy your lunch.

Hidden part of Beihai park, Beijing
I admit this part may not be “hidden” but every time I had got to Beihai in the past it had been closed. I didn’t get to go until the very last time I went. It cost about ¥1 to get in but they don’t take wechat if I recall but you can go to the gates where you bought your regular tickets and get them there. Once in it is a much smaller park in the shape of a circle. It is elevated though so you get different views, my favourite was the contrast of new Beijing in the distance of old Beijing. As always it is brightly coloured and beautiful. I’m sure if I had the chance to visit again my photos would look different every time.
calm oasis just in the middle of the city
Entrance is 10¥ and if you are a foreigner, you need to call in advance on number: 6403 7972 to make an appointment.
They will ask you for your passport number and name, also gate which you will use to enter. I recommend to enter by the South Gate, when you bet there go to the office on the right side of the entrance to pick up your ticket. Tell them when sis you call if yesterday or today to make reservations, it will help them to search your name. Also sometimes they speak English, but it’s better to ask your Chinese speaking friend to make the call.
After entering you have all this beautiful, calm and clean park to explore, watch elderly people in their rituals or enjoy a boat ride. Half an hour on a shared boat with 7 people is 40 yuan.
Tip come during the sunset, for an extra heart warming experience.

Beihai park, Beijing
This might be my favourite place to go any time of the year. Flowers in the spring, snow and ice in the winter, leaves changing colour in autumn and just beautiful in the spring. A ticket is only about ¥5 which means I don’t feel bad going back frequently and every-time I go I see something new or at least it looks new because the environment has changed. It’s not far from the trains or downtown so it’s easy to get to and find dinner after. If you wanted a full day there is plenty to see in the area as well but if you wanted to you could simply spend the whole day no problem. I love the white pagoda from all angels and I have 100 photos to prove it! #thisischina
Let us row a Boat at Beihai Park.
The first time I learned about Beihai Park was because of a song I heard in my childhood, Let's scull... and from a textbook about Beihai Park in elementary school.
At that time, I knew that there is a Baita Temple in Beihai Park. Beihai Park is behind the Forbidden City. There are two gates one in the north and one in the south. If you want to go to Baita Temple, you should go to the South Gate. However, the North Gate will take you to the White Pagoda Temple. Beihai Park is very large, serene and quiet. In addition to the Baita Temple, there are also some other ancient pavilions and plaques around here. The most tourist here are elderly or people with children.

Food+view=Superb!
Beihai Park may be underrated destination to go to Beijing but should be added on the list of the go to's! Arrived almost 6pm and our first stop is the Oh Fine! Cafè and restaurant to have a taste of their famous souffle pancakes and indeed words cannot describe how good it was! Price is 68 rmb for all the souffle pancakes. There are more to enjoy in their menu such as burger, french fries, sandwiches, and etc. This is just located just outside the park.
As you get inside, there is a coffee shop with a very nice view of the park and the lake. We talked and didn't notice how late it was because the air and view is just sooo refreshing.
Around the corner, I encountered a 310-year-old spring hidden in the Dongsi Wutiao Hutong, a secret waterfall of blooming flowers
Beijing, you really know how to play in style! During a leisurely weekend, strolling through the alleys of Dongsi Wutiao, I turned a corner and looked up, wow! 🤩 A tall Catalpa tree was completely covered in blossoms, like a waterfall cascading from the sky, breathtakingly beautiful!
Upon closer inspection, it's incredible! This is actually an ancient tree from the Qing Dynasty 🌳, with a plaque hanging on it stating that it is a first-class ancient tree, approximately 310 years old! Imagine, how many stories of old Beijing this tree has witnessed!
The residents here get to see this waterfall of flowers every day, how fortunate they are! 🥹 Standing at a distance, I quietly appreciated the view, the tall Catalpa tree and the quaint Siheyuan courtyard complementing each other, forming a stunningly beautiful picture.
Not many people are around here, and tourists are scarce, mostly just passersby who, upon glancing up at this beauty, would stop to take photos as a keepsake. 📸 This ancient tree, like a surprise left by time, blooms punctually every spring, bringing us endless surprises and emotions. 💖
Moreover, there are many other blooming spots around Dongsi Wutiao to visit, such as the wisteria and hydrangeas in Beihai Park, the Catalpa and Paulownia trees in Gongjian Hutong, and the peonies in Jingshan Park, all great places for flower viewing! 🌸
I recommend a city walk flower viewing route for everyone: Enter from the south gate of Beihai Park and exit from the north gate, then walk to Gongjian Hutong, proceed to Jingshan Park, and finally arrive at Dongsi Wutiao. This route not only allows you to see various beautiful flowers but also to experience the local customs and culture of old Beijing.
This week is the best viewing period, miss it and you'll have to wait another year! 😱 Such a healing view, don't miss out, hurry up! 🏃♀️🌸

Spring Splendor at Beihai Park🌿🌸
#cherryblossom2024
In the vibrant season of spring, Beihai Park comes to life, inviting visitors to embark on leisurely boat rides while admiring the enchanting scenery. As the paddle gently glides through the serene waters, the mesmerizing sight of the majestic white pagoda mirrored in the sea captivates the senses. March brings forth the blossoming beauty of Qionghua Island, where spring flowers adorn the lush landscape. Against the backdrop of the tranquil waters, the elegant white pagodas stand tall, surrounded by scattered stone structures and the echoes of ancient legends. Beihai Park truly epitomizes the essence of springtime serenity and splendor. 🚣♂️🏞️
Living in Beijing, how can one miss the springtime in Beihai Park?
Beihai Park
Beihai Park is a famous ancient royal garden in China, where the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties built their palaces, and the Ming and Qing dynasties established their imperial gardens. Not to mention the beauty of the water, the mountains, the pagoda, and the ancient architecture here, which are not only visually stunning but also rich in historical significance, the flowers and trees alone are breathtakingly beautiful! If you live in Beijing, what you should not miss the most is the spring in Beihai!
Let's not talk about the early spring's peach blossoms and willows, but just about the mid-spring season, entering the Grain Rain solar term, the beauty of Beihai is uniquely charming:
The most eye-catching are the yellow Rosa xanthina. Entering from the south gate, crossing the bridge and turning left, you are accompanied by bright yellow all along the way, with flowers blooming like a waterfall, a feast for the eyes! Among them, there is also a white Hydrangea paniculata and Tianmu magnolia in full bloom, and then passing by the fragrant purple wisteria trellis, afterwards heading up the mountain road towards the direction of the White Pagoda, the clusters of yellow Rosa xanthina make the pavilions and towers extraordinarily beautiful! No wonder Emperor Qianlong inscribed the words 'Qiong Island Spring Shade' here!
Walking through the flowers and up to the high platform, you can overlook the vast expanse of water, with the sparkling waves and the Wulong Pavilion, Xiaoxitian, and others all in view, how beautiful it is!
Spring at Beihai Park (Part II)
(Following the previous part) Exiting from the Nine Dragon Wall, passing through a cluster of red flowers called Japanese papaya, you arrive at Kuai Xue Tang. It consists of three courtyards: Cheng Guan Tang, Yu Lan Xuan, and Kuai Xue Tang. The lilacs in the first two courtyards have withered, and the peonies are also nearing the end of their blooming period, but the catalpa trees outside the courtyard walls are in full bloom. None of the three buildings are open to the public.
To the west of Kuai Xue Tang are the Iron Shadow Wall, Five Dragon Pavilion, and Chan Fu Temple. Inside Chan Fu Temple, there is a Thangka exhibition, which interested friends might want to see. Unfortunately, the Great Buddha Hall, the rear hall, and the Ba Fang Pavilion were all destroyed by a great fire, leaving only ruins now.
Continuing westward, you reach Xiao Xi Tian. This place is a paradise for friends who want to take photos in ancient costumes! You can see 'little princesses' and 'little emperors' dressed in traditional attire everywhere!
The Wan Fo Lou ruins are also nearby. I really like it here because there are fewer people!! Wan Fo Lou was built in 1770 when Emperor Qianlong celebrated the 80th birthday of his mother, the Empress Dowager Chongqing. It was demolished in 1965 as a dangerous building. Now only the Pu Qing Gate, Bao Ji Lou, and Ba Fang Pavilion remain. There is a duckfoot catalpa tree in the courtyard, which is now in full bloom.
Your Guide to Boating in 5 Beijing Parks is All You Need
These five municipal parks are the Summer Palace, Beihai Park, Yuyuantan Park, Zizhuyuan Park, and Taoranting Park.
The pleasant spring sunshine makes it the perfect season for boating. Embark on a boating journey and seek out the traces of spring on the water.
1. Yuyuantan Park: Equipped with four docks, it offers not only the common sightseeing boats but also flamingo boats, clownfish boats, dolphin boats, and yellow duck boats. The flamingo boat is especially recommended for its pink hue that matches the blooming cherry blossoms beautifully.
The ferry service operates from now until May 5th from 8:30-18:00, with ticket sales stopping at 17:00; from May 6th to October 31st from 9:00-17:00, with ticket sales stopping at 16:00.
2. Zizhuyuan Park: Hidden within the Western Third Ring Road, the 'Little Jiangnan' Zizhuyuan is a rare bamboo-themed park in Beijing. The park's Chengxian Lake, also known as the Big Lake, has three docks located to the east, south, and north, with a total of 132 boats including four-person, six-person, and eight-person electric boats, as well as four-person pedal boats. Besides boating, you can also take a sightseeing boat from the Ziyu Bay dock to the Summer Palace, check in at the ancient style photo shooting spot, or head to the northwest corner of the park to admire the winter plum blossoms at the imperial lodge.
The ferry service operates from 9:00-17:00, with ticket sales stopping at 16:00.
3. Beihai Park: 'The sea surface reflects the beautiful White Pagoda, surrounded by green trees and red walls...' In addition, you can also visit the 400-year-old Xitian Fan, and on Tuesdays, you can go to the Guetang Tower to enjoy the view.
The ferry service operates from 9:00-17:00, with small boats stopping ticket sales at 16:00 and large boats at 16:30.
4. The Summer Palace: Deservedly called the best boating park in Beijing. It offers pedal boats, painted boats, electric sightseeing boats, electric car boats, etc... Truly a blessing for couples, and you can also head to Xijiu Pavilion to buy fortune cookies.
The ferry service operates from 8:30-17:30, with ticket sales stopping at 16:30.
5. Taoranting Park: This place is an excellent spot for lotus viewing in Beijing's summer. Even before summer arrives, boating has become a regular activity here. With rippling blue waves and swaying willows, you can fully appreciate the beauty of 'Taoran'. The docks are located at the East and West docks.
The ferry service operates from 9:00-16:00, with boats being collected at 17:00.
The northwest corner of Beihai Park is a Buddhist realm
Visitors to Beihai rarely frequent the northwest corner for two reasons: one is that it is relatively remote, and the other is that there seem to be fewer attractions.
Today, due to the large number of tourists, I specifically chose this corner that I usually do not visit.
A new entrance has been opened at the central north side near the boat dock of Beihai. Entering from there and heading west, you will arrive at Jingxin Zhai. This is a garden within a garden, similar to the Garden of Harmonious Interests in the Summer Palace, exquisite and elegant.
Further ahead is Daxitian, with the majestic Huazang World Archway, followed by the Xitian Zen Forest Lama Temple. Diagonally behind is the famous Nine Dragon Wall.
Continuing on, you will see the Iron Shadow Wall. This ancient stone carving from the Yuan Dynasty, which was moved here from a temple near the Drum Tower, is simple and powerful, and the expression of the lion at the tail of the dragon is quite interesting. To protect it, glass covers have been added to the east, west, and north sides of the shadow wall, causing strong reflections that make it difficult to see clearly.
Chanfu Temple is located in the northwest corner of Beihai Park and was a place where Qing Dynasty emperors prayed for blessings. In 1919, a fire caused by the cooking of the fire brigade stationed in Beihai by Yuan Shikai destroyed Chanfu Temple.
Next to it is Xiaoxitian, built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his mother's birthday. The main hall covers an area of 1,200 square meters and is the largest square pavilion-style palace building in China.
To the south of Xiaoxitian is a very unique square stele: the Wanfu Tower Stele.
Unfortunately, unfortunately, these several gardens within the park are currently not open to the public.
Revisiting the Beihai Painted Boat Studio with lilacs blooming, the ancient courtyard is brimming with spring that cannot be contained
💐 Revisiting the Beihai Painted Boat Studio 🎏 with lilacs blooming, the ancient courtyard is brimming with spring that cannot be contained. 💐 Spring is in full swing, and revisiting the quaint courtyard of the Beihai Park's Painted Boat Studio, one finds the ancient lilacs in full, fragrant bloom. The gentle sunlight filters through the delicate petals, casting dancing shadows on the colorful stone paths. Amidst the fragrance, visitors stroll, savoring a visual and olfactory feast of spring, admiring the graceful, slender flowers, and inhaling the garden's sweet aroma.
🏰 The Painted Boat Studio, a Qing Dynasty imperial building on the eastern shore of Beihai, known as the 'Water Palace', is a serene courtyard centered around a square pool, with corridors on all four sides. The main building faces south, with 'Mirror Fragrance' and 'Viewing Marvel' rooms to the east and west. Emperor Qianlong once sat on an ice bed here to inscribe poetry, and the three characters of 'Painted Boat Studio' are his handwriting. The lilacs in the courtyard are said to have been planted at that time.
🎏 The fragrance of April belongs to the lilacs, like clouds steaming and rosy mists, enchanting the heart and spleen. Visitors walking through are amazed by its beauty. And with the gentle fragrance, the spring mood spreads throughout the courtyard, where all beings rest on the grass and sleep among the flowers, dreaming deeply. Upon awakening, spring is still not late.

②Exiting from the East Gate of Beihai, you will face the West Gate of Jingshan. Besides, do not choose to exit from the East Gate!! It's hard to find a taxi, and you'll have to walk a long way.
③It is not recommended to drive as there are no parking lots nearby.
④Those who purchase combo tickets can enter the park twice on the same day.
⑤Climbing the White Pagoda requires ascending three floors of relatively high and steep stairs, so it is not recommended for the elderly or those with mobility issues to purchase combo tickets.
Beijing's Five Parks: A city with five scenes, every step is a painting, surprises can't be hidden!
Beihai Park's White Pagoda with peach blossoms and willows along the shore, truly signifies the harmony of spring.
I still remember the children's song:
Let us row the oars, the little boat pushes through the waves
The sea reflects the beautiful White Pagoda, surrounded by green trees and red walls
In reality, Beihai Park, with the White Pagoda, peach blossoms, spring water, and willow shores
Is just as beautifully enchanting as depicted in the song
Beihai Park is vast, winding around the entire park
Climbing the White Pagoda takes about 3-4 hours
It's an excellent place to spend the weekend and clear your mind
The White Pagoda, built in the early Qing Dynasty in the eighth year of Shunzhi (1651)
Is 35.9 meters high, a Tibetan-style Lama Pagoda
In the sunny March, the White Pagoda with green willows and peach blossoms is extremely beautiful!

▪️ For color grading, it is suggested to use a fresh cream color scheme as the main, reduce contrast to enhance shadows and highlights, making the overall look more translucent and glossy
▪️ If it's windy and crowded, consider shooting on weekdays or start early on weekends
The spring in Beihai Park is so beautiful that it reaches deep into your bones!!!
🔹 I went there on 4.8, and the begonias near Yong'an Temple in Beihai Park were blooming so splendidly! Whenever the wind blows, the petals whirl into a pink 🌧️, romantically expressing the springtime.

Beihai Park Island Visit Strategy
Tips: Several characteristics define the well-known parks in Beijing. First, parking is difficult, and second, the parks are often crowded, making it a challenge to ensure you've visited all the important sights. Therefore, here comes the guide for parking + boating + island visiting in Beihai Park! This is the itinerary I followed last week, and it's family-friendly, so you won't take any unnecessary detours!
🚏Parking: Search for 'Xibanqiao (Bus Station)' for a parking lot where you can still park even if it's full by leaving your keys with the staff. If you're worried, you can ask for their phone number. I found this tip in a guidebook, and when I returned from my visit, they had already moved my car to a regular parking spot. The parking fee is 8 yuan per hour, which is quite reasonable in the expensive Xicheng District.
☀Tour Route: After leaving the parking lot, cross the street and turn left to reach the East Gate, with the route map attached below.
Route 1: After entering, you can go straight to the island. Heading north, you can visit well-known spots on the island: Qiongdao Chunyin, Yilan Hall, and Yuegu Lou, all of which are well worth a visit. Emperor Qianlong's aesthetic taste and interest in calligraphy and painting are evident.
Route 2: Walk to the South Gate (a five-minute walk), enter the White Pagoda area from Yong'an Temple (buy a combined entrance ticket or a single ticket for 10 yuan). Yong'an Temple closes at 5:30 pm, so go early! (If it's closed, you can still get close to the White Pagoda by taking the small path next to it, but you'll miss Yong'an Temple, Falun Hall, Puan Hall, and other sights)
🚢Boating: Boats can be rented directly from the South Gate and Lingguang Hall pier, but there are no large cruise ships (those that you don't have to row yourself). For the large cruise ships, you have to leave the island and take them from the outer circle of Beihai Park.
In conclusion, you can visit Qiong Island in an afternoon, but if you want to deeply explore the outer circle of Beihai Park and take photos, it will take a whole day!
