Central Fire Station Open House 👩🏻🚒
Did you know? On most Saturday mornings, fire stations in Singapore are open to public for viewing?
Admission is free and you will get to tour the station, have look at the emergency vehicles such as the fire truck and the ambulance and also look at the equipment the firefighters use and even spot them suiting up their protective gears!
You can even get a kid plastic hat for your kids to wear and take photos, a very good and educational place for little ones to visit and learn more about the force.
We even asked the firefighters questions and they were so happy to answer!

Oldest Fire Station in Singapore

Central Fire Station
Address: 62 Hill St, Singapore 179367
This is an active fire station and also the oldest fire station in Singapore. Take a walk in this vicinity for a local culture walk as part of the Jubilee Walk. This trial will bring you along many landmarks in Singapore, from past to future. In total, it is an 8 km walk. I will suggest you to break it down and do part by part. It is not easy to do the entire 8 km in one setting.
There is always open house held at Central Fire Station but I think it has been cancelled due to pandemic. A quick check on SCDF website shows that the guided tour is back on! Alternatively, there are also virtual tour for fire station too.

Oldest Fire Station In Singapore
The Central Fire Station is the oldest fire station still operating in Singapore, and is located at Hill Street.
The Central Fire Station serves the area around the vicinity mainly the Central Business District and Chinatown. The station also currently houses the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery, the official museum of the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Back in the 1800s Singapore did not have a proper fire station and everyone was a volunteer there. Not until 1900s when until the arrival of Superintendent Montague William Pett that significant changes were made and improved on. He was the first professional firefighter in Singapore. Pett trained the fire fighters, improved the facilities and equipment.
In today’s time, the fire station is now a national monument in recognition of its contribution and significance to Singapore’s history! It even survived WW2.
I like walking by the area because it makes me feels like I’m in London. And on Saturdays some of the larger fire stations in Singapore including The Central fire station has open houses for visitors to learn more about it’s history in Saturdays.
