#Easter Island Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
While visiting my son in Chile I had the opportunity to fly to Easter Island and see the Moai! They are huge and amazing to view. It’s hard to imagine how ancient people were able to move them from the quarry without modern machines. Easter Island itself is a wonderful tropical getaway. I’m glad the I had the opportunity to visit and it’s a place I’d love to go again!

I dont have much hope for the weather on the island, but I can see the blue sky and white clouds through the window the next day.
changed yesterday's wind and rain, today's sunny gives a hint of accident, sleep to wake up naturally, I suddenly found that the town is almost empty, the tourists who stayed for one day yesterday, have been scattered all over the island, I quickly find A place to eat, after a casual breakfast, went to the town center, according to the information I visited yesterday, went directly to the largest car rental, I have to take such a good weather, come to Easter Island self-driving tour.
Yes, I am driving by myself!
Automobile is a rare species on the island. Even if I find the largest rental car, I only rented a manual small off-road, 450 RMB a day. I can reach the island with a car. In all the areas that I want to go to, there is only one small gas station on the island on the avenue outside the airport. I load all the gadgets I can take pictures in the car, go to the nearby supermarket to buy a bunch of snacks, go to the gas station to line up and refuel. I started my round-the-island tour.
If you dont zoom in and out, I wont find Easter Island from a deep blue sea. All the stones on the island are all dark brown volcanic magma formed by the sun. The road with the best road conditions has been driven far away. When you see the signpost and take a glance, you can achieve a comfortable self-driving tour. The small cross-country can't be opened quickly, up to 70 yards, but even the farthest place can be used for an hour. .
Anakena Beach
The Anakena Beach in the northern part of Easter Island is the most enchanting attraction of the island. Apart from a row of majestic 'moai' giant statues, there is a long and wide stretch of white sand beach; the palm forest on the shore is lush and verdant. Climbing to the highest point of the island, the summit of Mount Terevaka at an altitude of 507 meters, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the island's volcanoes and surrounding statues, where the vast Pacific Ocean merges seamlessly with the blue sky, offering a refreshing and uplifting experience.
Just a short distance down from the mountain is the famous 'Seven Moai' statue site. Legend has it that this is where the seven sons of a Maori sorcerer waited for the arrival of King Hotu Matu'a. This site has the best-preserved group of 'moai' giant statues on the island. Every evening, people walk here to watch the sunset, with the afterglow painting half the sky red, and the giant statues outlined in an eternal silhouette.
The main attractions to visit at Anakena Beach are two archaeological sites. One is 'Ahu Nau Nau' and its very photogenic 'moai' giant statues; the other is 'Ahu Ature Huki' on the side of the mountain, where the only giant statue was re-erected by the famous Norwegian archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl and more than a dozen local islanders in a span of 9 days.

The mysterious site of the world—Easter Island ||| was discovered by Jacob Roggeveen in 1722, located in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, and is one of the most remote islands in the world, about 3600 kilometers from the mainland of Chile. There are more than 1000 megalithic statues on the island, with only about 5000 people living on the small island.
The megaliths on the island are about 7-10 meters high, with the tallest being over 20 meters and weighing hundreds of tons. They are exquisitely carved and uniquely shaped. According to investigations, the carving time is estimated to be between 1100 and 1680 AD.
In 1995, it was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Who made these statues? How were they made? What were they used for? These are still unsolved mysteries of the world to this day.
The Enigmatic Easter Island
Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, located in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. Famous for its enigmatic giant stone statues called moai, Easter Island offers a profound glimpse into the ingenuity and mystery of its early inhabitants.
What to Expect
Visitors to Easter Island will find themselves enveloped in a landscape that is both stark and vibrant, where the vast ocean meets wide, open skies. The island’s most striking features are undoubtedly the moai, which are scattered throughout the landscape, standing on ceremonial platforms called ahu. These statues are believed to represent the ancestors of the Rapa Nui people, watching over their descendants with somber majesty.
Experiences and Recommendations
Exploring the island by foot, bike, or horseback allows you to appreciate the moai at your own pace. A visit to Rano Raraku, the quarry where most of the moai were carved, provides insight into how these colossal figures were made and transported. Another must-visit is Ahu Tongariki, where 15 moai stand in a row against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean—the largest ahu on the island. For those interested in the history and culture of Rapa Nui, the local museum offers valuable contexts and houses smaller artifacts from the island’s past.
Tips and Tricks
Travel to Easter Island generally involves a flight from Santiago, Chile, which can be quite lengthy, so prepare for a long journey. Accommodations range from guesthouses to luxury hotels, catering to different budgets and preferences. Weather can be unpredictable, with rain showers even during the warmer months, so packing a waterproof jacket is advisable. Sun protection is also essential given the island’s exposed terrain.
Personal Reflections
Standing in the presence of the moai at sunrise, feeling the chill of the ocean breeze and watching the sky light up in shades of orange and pink, was a moment of awe and deep reflection. It’s an experience that connects you not just to the past of Easter Island, but to a broader narrative of human endeavor and spiritual belief.
For those intrigued by history, mystery, and the resilience of ancient cultures, Easter Island offers a profound journey into the unknown. Its isolation, coupled with the dramatic narrative of its ancient stone figures, creates a travel experience that is as haunting as it is beautiful.

Coming to Easter Island is like fulfilling a dream. This lonely island in the vast sea is really in the middle of nowhere, more than 3,000 kilometers away from mainland Chile. It takes 5 hours by plane, and even the tickets are hard to buy, so it's not easy to make a trip here.
The island is very small, it takes only half an hour to drive from south to north, there are not many rich products and unique landscapes, it can be said to be a plain volcanic island.
We stayed on the island for 5 days and 4 nights, which was plenty of time. Now in spring, the daylight hours are long, 3-4 days are enough to see most of the attractions on the island.
🟨Let's highlight a few points🟨
🟡Rano Raraku Quarry
The largest and most interesting place, the Moai statues scattered all over the mountains are half buried in the ground, which is the most famous postcard scenery of Easter Island. You need a guide to enter, and you can only enter once.
🟡Tongariki 15 statues by the sea
15 statues facing the sea and the sun, it is the best place to watch the sunrise, you need a guide.
🟡Anakena Seaside Statue Ahu Nau Nau
A row of hat-wearing statues by the sea, very well preserved, no tickets or guides are needed, you can go by yourself.
🟡Ahu Tahai The only statue with eyes
This is the best place on the island to watch the sunset, and there is also a statue with eyes. Free attraction without tickets and guides.
🟫3-day tour itinerary🟫
🟤Day 1
After arriving at noon, you can directly rent a car to Anakena Beach and Ahu Tahai to watch the sunset in the afternoon. Both are free attractions. When we went in November, the sunset was close to nine o'clock in the evening, so there was plenty of time.

Find a guide to customize a one-day tour. First go to Tongariki to watch the sunrise, then go to Rano Raraku Quarry, Ahu Akivi (the only 7 statues facing the sea), Orongo Birdman Competition Site, Rano Kau Volcano Crater. These are the most classic and important attractions. There are also others such as the statue hat factory, Vaihu indigenous village, etc. that you can go to.
The tour is about 7 hours, if you watch the sunrise, it ends around two o'clock. You can stroll on the main street in the afternoon, and you can watch the performance or sign up for the star-watching group at night.
🟤Day 3
You can go horse riding in the morning, you can ride to the highest point of the island to overlook, about 2-3 hours, after finishing, have a meal and catch the 3 o'clock flight back to Santiago.

The end of the southern hemisphere summer is a fine time to make a trip to Easter Island: the flight schedule remains regular and temperatures are balmy but no longer sweltering. And, while of course the hundreds of moai statues – or ‘Easter Island heads’ – are the main attraction, it should come as little surprise that the surfing and diving here is world class. Guided dives can even take you to a submerged moai, near Hanga Roa, the island’s main town. Plus, it’s not too hot to take a hike, preferably along the north-west coastal path, where there are fallen moais, bright-green pastures and spectacular South Pacific views.
The island’s population represents the easternmost settlement of a basically Polynesian subgroup that probably derived from the Marquesas group. The original Rapa Nui vocabulary has been lost except for some mixed Polynesian and non-Polynesian words recorded before the Tahitian dialect was introduced to the decimated population by missionaries in 1864. Today Spanish is generally spoken. In their traditions, the islanders consistently divide themselves into descendants of two distinct ethnic groups, the “Long-Ears” and the “Short-Ears” (see below). Intermarriage is common, and an influx of foreign blood has become increasingly dominant in recent years.

Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui Island, is an island in the eastern South Pacific, about 3600 kilometers east of the Chilean mainland. This island belongs to the Polynesian Islands geographically and is the most remote island in the world. The island is roughly triangular in shape ▲ and is composed of three main volcanoes. Today, there are more than 5000 residents on the island, and more than half of them are descendants of the Rapa Nui people.
Now the entire Easter Island is also known as #Rapa Nui National Park. In 1995, Rapa Nui National Park was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
9 Moai statues
Easter Island is famous for its approximately 800 giant stone statues called moai. These statues are generally 7-10 meters tall, weigh 30-90 tons, and are all carved from a single piece of dark red volcanic rock. All the statues face the sea with a majestic expression and have rich facial expressions on all sides. Their eyes are specially inlaid with obsidian or shells, which adds to their vividness.
Birdman Festival
The biggest traditional festival on the island is "Birdman Festival". Every February, all islanders gather at the top of the Orongogo volcano to elect their leader "Birdman" and worship the gods. At this time, tourists can witness the sacred ritual ceremony and colorful local customs.
Anakay
Ana Kai is the most charming attraction on the island, with majestic rocks.
Like golden beaches and dense palm trees. Climb to the highest point.

On the first day of Easter Island, the weather was not good. I started a one-person hike
ran along the rugged path along the beach to the nearest attraction. From time to time, the sky was still raining for a while, carrying a camera bag, hands I still have to carry the drone suitcase, and it is very difficult to travel. Once on the road full of earth and stone, I put down my suitcase and dragged forward, so I actually moved forward for 2-3 kilometers, went to the entrance of the scenic spot, and checked the ticket. The little brother is born with a romantic guitar with a melody. There is no tourist at all here in the rainy days. I always give people a sense of escaping.
Along the black path formed by the volcanic magma, I continued my journey with great stride, and even I met a group of cows, but the uncontested weather completely covered the sunset, and the drifting rain, I was in a hurry. I didn't bring the umbrella out of the door. Now I don't have any choice but to pull the zipper on my body. I look up at the cloud and it doesn't stop at all. So I take the family back, but This will be a long way, a bit horrifying.
Yes, Easter Island is called the belly button of the world, (you may understand it by looking at the map). On Easter Island, watching Moai quietly blowing the sea breeze of the Pacific Ocean, enjoying the baptism of sunrise and sunset is the best way to travel.
The beauty of Easter Island makes the text look ordinary, but fortunately there are photos that make it shine in memory.
Easter Island, an island with a stone man's secret
want to travel to Easter Island is not so easy, the Chilean government monopolizes the route to Easter Island, only one flight a day to and from the capital Santiago
but the plane It's not bad, generally not the 787 is the A380, even if the 500-600 location, almost every flight can still be full, you can imagine the attraction of Easter Island
now the island residents less than 5,000 people, self-driving It takes less than an hour to drive around the island, but the sea here is really beautiful. It is 3,600 kilometers away from the nearest mainland. It was a long time ago. It was an isolated area
as for the dozens of tons of stone people on the island. Ai), it is still a fan, who created them, what is their role?
Easter Island, full of mystery
Easter Island, Chile, sunrise and sunset, stone statues have been waiting for the millennium. Quietly, they waited for me to wait for the sunrise again. You, have you heard their call? The indigenous people on the island are called Rapa Nui, they spread Spanish, most of the Aboriginal descendants can speak Rapa Nui, and some travel practitioners can speak English. The Rapa Nui said that the place where he lives is "the navel of the world." In 1995, Easter Island was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
