Ellis Island Immigration Museum NYC 🗽🇺🇸
Ellis Island 📍 island in New York Harbor, within the 🇺🇸. It was the busiest immigrant inspection and processing 🚉 in the 🇺🇸. Today, it is part of 🗽 National Monument and is accessible to the public only by 🛥
It is totally great experience! I would suggest to anyone!
The north side of the island is the site of the main building, which now they call the national museum of immigration.
The south side of the island, there is the Ellis Island Immigrant 🏥 , and it is open to the public only through guided tours.

When looking on the streets of New York City, you can see how the various lax immigrations policies through the decades have shaped this metropolis into the financial hub and economic powerhouse with a prime spot on the world stage.
Yet, this wasn’t always the case. Many of the people that came here first were met by doctors inspecting them and border agents looking them up for any suspicious behaviour. As a recently arrived immigrant from Europe the sight of the Statue of Liberty would have been a sign of reassurance that the long voyage is now past and the future is yours to make in the the New World.
Once arrived, your ship would’ve first stopped on Ellis Island. Doctors would inspect you for any diseases followed by a long wait in the hall. Your name would be called by the border agent and you had to have $20 on you or else you might not be let in. Note that knowledge of English was not mandatory. Only, and only then, you could say you’ve arrived in the Land of Opportunity.

Visited the Historical Museum in Ellis Island

📍Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration
Ellis Island Bridge, Jersey Island, NJ, United States
Interesting museum to visit after visiting Liberty Island (Statue of Liberty) before heading back to Manhattan. This is the second stop on the ferry from New York City, and you can choose to hop off the ferry to visit this island or not, depending on the time available. We spent around 30minutes here, but it’s not enough to cover everything. There is a lot to see here, the museum provides information on how immigrants came to America in the past, why are they immigrating to America, a lot of figures and timelines being shown. Great historical museum that’s worth a visit! You will have to plan ahead as there is a timing of the last ferry to board from Liberty Island to Ellis Island.

Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration ✨
Visiting Ellis Island is an opportunity to connect with America's immigrant past, gain insight into family histories, and appreciate its historical and cultural significance. The building and its surroundings are astonishingly beautiful. Very aesthetically pleasing.
Fascinating place to learn about the journey so many immigrants took to get to a place that was foreign to them but offered a brighter future in their minds. Museum does a great job explaining why they made the journey, what the experienced when arriving and history about them. 👍🏻
On a clear day, Ellis Island offers beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, and the surrounding waters. The ferry ride is enjoyable with lots of levels and a snack shop on board. Overall definitely worth the stop. 😊

Ellis Island Immigration Museum

Housed inside the restored Main Building of the former immigration complex, the Museum documents the rich story of American immigration through a carefully curated collection of photographs, heirlooms, and searchable historic records.
Ellis Island is open every day except Thanksgiving (the 4th Thursday in November) and December 25th. Hours change seasonally. There is no entrance fee. However, both islands are only accessible via ferry company Statue City Cruises.
The cost of the ferry ticket is not an entrance fee - there is no charge to visit the museum on Ellis Island or the grounds of Liberty Island.

Soooo ... we didn't really plan to visit Ellis Island but it came as part of our ticket to the Statue of Liberty. Wow, this place was so interesting and we leant so much.
Given our experience, we would certainly recommend.
Many of the people that came here first were met by doctors inspecting them and border agents looking them up for any suspicious behaviour. It is interesting that you just needed $20 and to be in good health in order to enter the USA 🇺🇸
