Witness the last battle of the New Fourth Army against the Japanese invaders - Gaoyou Campaign|Jingtu Temple Pagoda (1324)
|Jingtu Temple Pagoda (1324). Jingtu Temple Pagoda, also known as the East Gate Pagoda, is located in Gaoyou, Jiangsu, and was built in the 34th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1606). In 1963, Gaoyou Middle School students Zhu Guangrong and others climbed to the top of the tower and took out some cultural relics from the treasure pagoda and handed them to the Cultural Museum, including the Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra and the Diamond Sutra from the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, etc. More than 40 volumes are now in the Nanjing Museum. The tower is 47.46 meters high, made of brick, and is octagonal.
Witness the last battle of the Chinese army against the Japanese invaders in the Gaoyou Campaign. In 1945, when Gaoyou City was liberated for the first time, the southeast corner of the tower was attacked by artillery fire and a corner was destroyed, which was repaired the following year. In 2005, the workers who repaired the tower successively found and took out three unexploded, well-preserved shells from the southeast corner of the tower, and confirmed that these shells were left by the New Fourth Army during the siege in the Gaoyou Campaign during the Anti-Japanese War.
