Bolivia! Uyuni Salt Flats! A must-join 3-day tour!
A trip to Bolivia wouldn't be complete without visiting the world's largest salt flat, the Uyuni Salt Flats. The night before, we took an overnight bus from La Paz to Uyuni, and at 10 AM the next morning, the tour driver picked us up to start our three-day, two-night adventure.
Here are the highlights of the typical three-day, two-night tour:
1. LAGUNA HEDIONDA
🪭 Highlights - Get up close to many flamingos that inhabit this area. There are three types of flamingos: Andean (most common, with pink tails), Chilean, and James (least common).
🛎️ Rating - 8/10
2. UYUNI SALT FLAT & COLCHANI
🪭 Highlights - Visiting between March and April is ideal because a thin layer of water on the salt flats creates a mirror-like reflection, perfect for photography. During sunset, you can even see two suns, a truly rare sight. Nearby, COLCHANI, which charges 15 Bolivian pesos, features salt sculptures made from salt bricks. These sculptures look stunning against the blue sky, making for great photos.
🛎️ Rating - 9/10
3. TRAIN CEMETERY
🪭 Highlights - In the middle of the desert lies an abandoned train, rusted and resembling a giant playground. Many tourists climb on it, creating a unique attraction.
