Leshan | An ancient town under Mount Emei
Take a bus from zero kilometer to the foot of the mountain, and then trek 7.3 kilometers to Luomu Ancient Town, also known as Qinglongchang, which was established in the first year of Wude during the Tang Dynasty. It is said to be the first stop where the ancient Tea Horse Road entered the mountainous area from the plains during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The ancient town has a river flowing through it, and when the weather is clear, Mount Emei appears so close that it seems to rush towards you. Strangely enough, despite being so close to Mount Emei, the town has never become a tourist hotspot and still retains its original, unspoiled way of life, which might be considered a blessing from the heavens. If you visit Mount Emei, this place comes highly recommended and is a must-see!

The ancient town at the foot of Mount Emei where you can see the Golden Summit is Luomu!
Recently, I saw photos of Luomu Ancient Town on social media, and was attracted by the old houses and alleys. Four of us just decided to go, grabbed our bags, and set off.
It took two hours by car to reach this small town at the foot of Mount Emei.
Luomu Town was previously known as Qinglongchang, established during the Tang Dynasty, and it is said to have existed during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, truly a place with a long history.
The ancient town has eight main streets and seven alleys, mostly inhabited by indigenous people who have lived here for generations, happily continuing their traditional way of life.
Walking through the town is like traveling back to the eighties or nineties. Those traditional snacks such as pea cakes, rice-made cold cakes, tofu pudding, and so on, are all childhood favorites, and the prices are so cheap that you really think you've gone back in time. A pea cake for one yuan, a bowl of cold cake for three yuan, and ten dumplings for eight yuan, with the meat filling almost bursting through the skin. We had lunch at the Eyeglasses Restaurant, stir-fried pork liver with wood ear mushrooms for 15 yuan, tofu pudding for 5 yuan, along with steamed pork intestines with rice flour and vegetables, etc., all for less than 50 yuan. The person in charge of paying for the meal, Sister Ke, was too embarrassed to take the money, insisting on treating us.
The old buildings in the ancient town are covered with quotations from Chairman Mao; I don't know if they were left over from the past or added later, I didn't go to inquire or verify.
On the main street, there is a dilapidated two-story building from the Republic of China era—a brothel. Looking up at the railing called 'Beauty's Lean', I imagined the prosperity of the town back in the day. At night, the songs of the brothel women leaning on the railings must have traveled far.
Wan Chai Street is one of my favorite alleys, with clean-swept bluestone paths. Every household plants some small flowers and places them outside their doors.
Impatiens, which girls might have used to paint their nails when they were young—I've done this before.
On Wan Chai Street, I saw trees with beautiful white flowers, which I couldn't name until I asked the locals and learned they were hibiscus flowers, a name I had known for a long time but finally matched up.
Following the Linjiang River, you can see the Golden Summit. The locals say that in winter, the town presents another scene, with the snow-covered Mount Emei also looking very beautiful.
I thought: Maybe I'll come again in winter, not to climb the mountain, but to stay in the ancient town at the foot of the mountain, to idle away, watch the snowy mountains and scenery, and enjoy the traditional food, which would be nice.

Luomu Ancient Town
Luomu Ancient Town, locally known as Qinglongchang, has been renovated. When the weather is good, you must stroll along the river, and you can also take pretty beautiful photos. Many locals live in the ancient town, with few tourists. On market days, it's quite lively. The prices are 1-2 yuan cheaper than in the city. If you have plenty of time, you can take a stroll. Parking is very convenient and free of charge.

You will know how good this homestay in Luomu Ancient Town is once you stay there
I went to Luomu Ancient Town in autumn. I liked it so much that I decided to stay for a night.
The ancient town is not big, and there are only a few inns. After searching online, everyone recommended Muran Homestay.
There must be a reason for so many people to recommend it, so I went.
This homestay is located at the head of the town. Navigate to the town government and you will arrive in a few steps.
It's a two-story house with a small courtyard. Looking from the outside in, someone is sitting at the window drinking coffee.
At the entrance, there is a plaque that says 'The wind that misses you has reached Luomu'. Haha, 'the wind that misses you' has already blown all over China. Even so, everyone is still happy to take photos with 'the wind that misses you'.
The reason for liking to stay in a homestay is simple, it's as casual as at home. While checking in, you can ask the housekeeper to make a cup of coffee or tea, and sit by the solid wood tea table to drink a few sips to relieve fatigue.
Muran Homestay has ten rooms, five standard rooms and five big beds. The room is quite large, with two sofas under the window, simple. The bathroom is separated from the wet and dry, smart toilet. I have the habit of washing my hair every day, and I need to use conditioner. Many inns are not prepared, so I always bring my own. But at Muran Homestay, you don't have to worry about forgetting to bring conditioner, even hand cream is prepared for you.
From these small details, it can be seen that the operators of the homestay are people who value the quality of life.
In our conversation with the owner of Muran Homestay, we learned that she is a local, and her husband is a painter from Guangzhou. A few years ago, the couple bought this two-story house, and after it was installed, they made full use of it. Not only did they live in it, but they also opened a tea room and coffee shop in the front yard on the first floor, and the guest rooms were in the back. There are guest rooms and the painter's studio on the second floor. We were fortunate to have a look. The painter painted a lot of scenery of Luomu Ancient Town.
Isn't this the dream of many people? Have your own small shop and do what you like.
So, in January 2024, my classmates and I revisited Luomu Ancient Town and stayed in Muran Homestay again.
That afternoon, we gathered together to make tea around the stove.
The tea room was filled with winter plum blossoms, and there was a faint fragrance. The owner gave us peanuts, chestnuts, and red dates, plus what we brought ourselves, and filled a table.
A few classmates who haven't seen for a long time, chat while drinking tea. In the curling smoke, time unknowingly passed.
When I thought of taking pictures, the light was a bit dark, but it's always nice to take pictures in a homestay.
For dinner, the owner recommended the floating fragrance hot pot in the town, which was really delicious. A few people only spent more than 100 yuan, which was too cheap.

Why not go to Mount Emei|||I want to wait here a little longer, until the bright Emei moon shines on the snowy Emei
Why not go to Mount Emei|||I want to wait here a little longer, until the bright Emei moon shines on the snowy Emei. When that time comes, I will carry a lantern, look into the distance, light a bonfire, let the fire hold up the color of the wine, and have a wild celebration by myself. After the indulgence, I return to silence. When I sober up, I will leave the night and go to another mountain
