[2025 Mokpo Attraction] Travel Guide for Mokpo Modern History Museum 2 (Former Oriental Development Company Mokpo Branch) (Updated May)

It was a trip to Mokpo, Korea. We started our trip by visiting Yudalsan Mountain ⛰️ The hike was manageable, and the panoramic views of Mokpo’s coastline and nearby islands were worth every step. Sunrise 🌅 here is magical, with the city slowly coming to life beneath a soft glow ✨ In the afternoon, we explored the Mokpo Modern History Museum. The old architecture and exhibits provided a fascinating glimpse into Mokpo’s past, and the quiet atmosphere made it ideal for photography 📸 Yudalsan Mountain 📍9, Yudal-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Mokpo Modern History Museum 📍6, Yeongsan-ro 29beon-gil, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do We also visited Samhakdo Park, a peaceful waterfront spot. The views of Mokpo Bridge and the surrounding islands were stunning, especially with the morning mist lingering over the water 💦 Then we headed to the Gatbawi Rock. The silhouette of this natural rock formation against the sunset sky was a memorable sight. The tranquility of the area added to the experience, making it perfect for reflection and photography 📸 Samhakdo Park 📍51, Bukhang-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Gatbawi Rock 📍Gatbawi Culture Town, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do We also explored the Mokpo Marine Cable Car 🚡 early in the morning to avoid the crowds ☀️ The aerial views of Mokpo’s harbor and Yudalsan Mountain were incredible. Capturing the city from this unique perspective was a highlight of the trip 😍😍😍 We also visited Nojeokbong Peak. The gentle trails led to a scenic spot overlooking the city and the sea 🌊 It’s a quieter location compared to Yudalsan, making it perfect for peaceful photo sessions 📸 Mokpo Marine Cable Car 📍240, Haeyangdaehak-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Nojeokbong Peak 📍24-5, Yudal-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Mokpo is a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural history. Did you know that Hotel Del Luna, starring IU, was filmed at the Mokpo Modern History Museum? If you turn your back to Mokpo Station and go to the left, you can see the Modern History Museum 1 and 2. It's easy to see because everything from Kolombang Bakery, Junghwaru, and the dried fish market are all located here. If you're interested in the port opening period and the Japanese colonial period, I highly recommend you visit. Admission fee: Adults 2,000 won. Youth and military 1,000 won. Elementary school students 500 won. Opening hours: 9:00-18:00. Closed: January 1. Every Monday. Parking lot available. If not, you can park nearby.

It was nice to park at the Modern History Museum Building 2 and walk to Building 1 through the Japanese-style house. You only need to pay the entrance fee at one place. The Jungang Hoe-jip Min-eo-jeon and Seongsikdang Galbitang are conveniently located nearby. #HotPlace

This is the 2nd building of the Mokpo Modern History Museum in Jeollanam-do. Mokpo's first dock labor movement The beginning of the modern Mokpo people's struggle was the dock labor movement that took place after the port opened in October 1897. Japanese merchants, with their strong capital and the protection of the Japanese consulate, took control of Mokpo's commercial district and tried to subjugate Korean laborers under their power. In the process, the dock workers' resistance was fierce. The Mokpo Independence Movement took place on March 20, 1919, but it was disbanded on that day without any major conflict due to persuasion by the government. After that, a large-scale Independence Movement began on April 8. Since Mokpo was a city with a large Japanese population, surveillance was strict to suppress the Independence Movement. Even after the March 1st Movement, students' anti-Japanese movements were active in Mokpo. The representative examples are the Independence Movement of Jeongmyeong Girls' School and Yeongheung School in 1921 and the participation of Mokpo Commercial School in the Gwangju Student Anti-Japanese Movement in 1929. In November 1921, Jeongmyeong Girls' School students marched while holding the Taegeukgi and shouting "Long Live the Independence of Korea" to widely publicize the issue of Korean independence in time for the international conference held in Washington, D.C. Yeongheung School students also staged the Independence Movement the following day, November 15. Mokpo Commercial School students supported the Gwangju Student Anti-Japanese Movement that occurred in November 1929. Mokpo was a city where various worker classes were formed as it developed as a port city after the opening of its ports. During the Japanese colonial period, there were not many local cities where many factories were established or labor industries were developed like Mokpo. However, since the reality of workers under Japanese colonial rule was not good, labor movements to improve worker treatment became active. After the Mokpo Vanguard Alliance was formed in 1925, the Oil Refinery Workers' Union, Rice Mill Workers' Union, and Textile Workers' Union were founded by occupation. I visited the cafe 'Kkuum' right next to Mokpo Modern History Museum 2! ☕️ The interior is totally my style with Shin-chan theme 🥺 As a dessert cafe, they have a lot of delicious options! After some deliberation, I ordered an Einspänner and a blueberry yogurt smoothie, and it was an excellent choice 👍 The Einspänner was rich and smooth, and the smoothie was refreshing and cool! ✨
