#Norris Geyser Basin Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Take the time alone to digest the world, Norris Geyser Basin.
Norris Geyser Basin
📝Attention tips: This place is very big, you can walk around the wooden plank road, but be careful, this is still the most acidic pool, don't fall in!
👍Most recommended: Although everything here is beautiful, because there are not many scenic spots in the upper part, everyone can still save some energy and enter directly from the West Gate and walk north, which I believe will definitely bring you a visual shock!
❤Recommendation reason: Why is it called a geyser? Because it is in a volcanic area, the hot lava will raise the temperature of the surrounding water layers, even turning them into steam. When the steam encounters cracks in the rock layers, it rises along the cracks, and when the temperature drops below the boiling point, it condenses into high-temperature water. These accumulated waters, along with the upper groundwater, rise to the surface along the cracks in the layers and erupt periodically, forming a geyser.
In this natural boiler, there must be a deep spring water channel. The underground water is heated by the hot magma under the channel, but is also under pressure from the high-pressure water column above the channel, unable to freely roll and boil. The narrow channel restricts the convection of the spring water up and down; thus, the water below the channel is constantly heated and accumulating energy until the steam pressure at the bottom of the water column exceeds the pressure at the top of the water column. Then, the high-temperature and high-pressure hot water and steam underground will push all the water in the channel out of the surface, causing a powerful eruption. After the eruption, as the water temperature drops and the pressure decreases, the eruption will temporarily stop and accumulate energy again for the next eruption.
Grand Prismatic Spring
Grand Prismatic Spring, also known as the Grand Rainbow Hot Spring, is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. With a diameter of over 100 meters, it displays different colors such as blue, green, yellow, orange, and red from the center outwards, making it the largest and most beautiful scenic spot in terms of area and color.
It is impossible to see the panoramic view of the Grand Prismatic Spring from the peripheral trail. Viewing the prism up close is greatly affected by the constantly rising hot steam and wind, which greatly reduces the viewing effect. The best angle to see the prism is from above. To see the full view of this beautiful "Yellowstone eye", you have to climb the mountain behind the Prism Spring. Drive southeast along the highway, walk along the river road for about ten minutes, and you can see the prism emitting hot steam on your right hand side. On the left side of the mountain, there is a small path that many people have come out of, which is not very difficult. After climbing to the platform on the mountain for about ten minutes, you can see the panoramic view of the prism. There are trails in the Prism Spring scenic area, but it is not very clear to see because of the steam.
