Phimeanakas: The Celestial Temple
Don’t miss:

- A large cruciform terrace whose edges are supported by columns.
- Four sanctuaries facing west (libraries?)
Phimeanakas (Prasat Phimean Akas, 'celestial temple') or Vimeanakas (Prasat Vimean Akas) at Angkor, Cambodia, is a Hindu temple in the Khleang style, built at the end of the 10th century.
The tower was originally crowned with a golden pinnacle, as Zhou Daguan described it in his report. According to legend, the king spent the first watch of every night with a woman thought to represent a Nāga in the tower, during that time, not even the queen was permitted to intrude. Only in the second watch the king returned to his palace with the queen.
You can reach Phimeanakas on foot from Baphuon in the south, Terrace of the Elephants in the East, or Preah Palilay in the north. Most visitors will approach the temple from the East as the Angkor kings would have done. As you’re walking from the Terrace of the Elephants, keep going for around 200m. There is a path through the trees which will take you to the front of the temple.

On top of the temple, there was a tower, while on the edge of top platform there are galleries. Phimeanakas is located inside the walled enclosure of the Royal Palace of Angkor Thom north of Baphuon. The Phimeanakas rises at the heart of the larger Palace of the Kings of Angkor, a vast rectangle measuring 581 meters by 242 meters.

During my recent journey, I embarked on a captivating expedition to explore the Phimean Arkas Temple nestled in the enchanting Siem Reap Province. This remarkable destination boasts a breathtaking panorama and stands as a testament to the ancient heritage of Cambodia. The anticipation of witnessing the awe-inspiring artistry and architectural marvels within the temple filled me with an overwhelming sense of exhilaration.
The Phimean Arkas Temple in Angkor, Cambodia, is an ancient Hindu temple constructed in the Khleang style during the late 10th century. It was initially built by Rajendravarman and later completed by Suryavarman. The temple takes the form of a three-tier pyramid with a tower on top and galleries along the edge of the upper platform. Situated within the walled enclosure of the Royal Palace of Angkor Thom, north of Baphuon, Phimeanakas holds historical significance.
Make your visit to Cambodia truly worthwhile by exploring this remarkable place that will create unforgettable memories. I'm already counting down the days until I can visit again in 2024! #ancienttemples #mytravelhacks #localguides #historicallandmarks #phimeanarkas

The Sky Palace is a pyramid-shaped building. The three-story red sandstone base is built with a high-rise platform. The platform has a complete corridor around the central tower. The steep steps of the sky palace steps are no less than the paradise ladder of Angkor Wat. After a few days of experience, I can already use my slippers, hands and feet and use it to go up and down. This kind of design that requires you to look up and climb without hesitation, there are many in Angkor, presumably to show a sincere heart to God. Entering the temple to pass the long, seemingly endless approach, climb the pagoda to throw away the distracting thoughts, and through hardships and dangers, people always need a sense of ritual to pin their religious feelings. The central tower of the
air palace has been defeated. It used to be a golden pagoda with a golden dome, and its status in the palace is very important. In this view, you can go through the entire Tongwang City, but when you come to the Jinta, few people look at the scenery seriously, and they are all attracted by the snake legend and the legend of the king. This legend must have been in ancient times, and it has been widely spread in the Angkor dynasty, because Zhou Daguan actually recorded this story in "Zhen La Feng Di Ji", "the inner middle of the golden pagoda, the country's night is lying down. The natives It is said that there is a Hydra essence in the tower. It is also the landowner of a country. It is a female body, and it is seen every night. The king first goes to sleep with him, even though his wife does not dare to enter. You can sleep with your wife and sister. If this fine is not seen overnight, then the king will die until the death of the king. If the king does not go to the night, he will be plagued with disaster." Sitting at the cloister for a while, I wonder if this fine is with our white. The maiden is as enchanting and beautiful.
