Cycling at Sun Moon Lake
Years ago, I had the chance to cycle around Sun Moon Lake and was captivated by its stunning scenery. This time, I took advantage of the holiday to revisit Sun Moon Lake for another cycling adventure. The night before, I stayed near Ita Thao Pier and explored the surrounding area. The next morning, I rented a bike near Shuishe Pier. There are plenty of bike rental shops in the area, so I checked Google Maps for highly-rated options and eventually chose Dian Xiao Er Bike Rental. Their prices were reasonable, and the rental period lasted until 6 PM.
The entire cycling route offers breathtaking views, especially the "Xiangshan Bike Path." Riding along the lakeside, you’ll have the lake on your left and lush greenery on your right. You’ll also pass a winding wooden boardwalk that looks postcard-perfect in photos. The breeze along the way is refreshing, and the air is incredibly clean. I took my time, stopping to snap pictures and enjoy the wind, making the whole experience feel wonderfully relaxed.
Even if you’re not someone who exercises regularly, there’s no need to worry. While there are a few small slopes, the overall route isn’t too strenuous. Plus, there are plenty of rest stops and observation decks along the way where you can take breaks and enjoy the scenery.
I also spent some time at the Xiangshan Visitor Center. The architecture is stunning and thoughtfully designed. They even sell coffee and ice cream, which was perfect for a quick energy boost.
