[Oita Prefecture] Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, a sacred place for Japanese macaques 🐒
We went to Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, which is located on Takasakiyama, halfway between Oita City and Beppu City. 🐒
This is one of Japan's leading natural zoos, where wild Japanese macaques live and you can observe them up close. 👌
*The distance is really close. 😅
When it's feeding time, the monkeys come from the mountain to the gathering place to get food, and in no time the area is covered with Japanese macaques, so the sight is overwhelming! In addition, the staff are always explaining the ecology, habits, and characteristics of the Japanese macaques, so you can enjoy watching the lives of the monkeys at Takasakiyama😌
*The staff apparently remembers the names of all the hundreds of monkeys...that's amazing😳
The park, covered with trees, is designated as a special protected area of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, and is recommended as a spot for nature walks with its rich nature🌳
A cute monorail called the "Sarukko Rail" runs to the gathering place where the monkeys are🚝
On the other side of the foot of the mountain, there is the Takasakiyama Natural Zoo and a museum that displays the history of Japanese macaques, so you can enjoy nature. You can learn about the history of the zoo and other things 🥸
