Tuanyuhe Traveling Palace is named after the source of Tuanyuhe within the palace — Tuanbo Lake. It was initially built in the 42nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign during the Qing Dynasty (1777), and it took five years to complete. The palace adopted the scenic layout of gardens in the south of the Yangtze River, covering an area of about 400 acres, with more than 600 various halls and rooms. It served as a residence for Qing emperors during their visits to Nanhazi for hunting expeditions or to the Liangying Platform for military reviews. In 1900, the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded Beijing, and the treasures inside the Tuanyuhe Traveling Palace were looted, with the palace itself suffering severe damage.
