#Xi'an Bell Tower Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Geographical Center of Ancient China! 🇨🇳
#timetotravel
I had the opporunity to see Xian's Bell tower thrice and I always get to see it since I was also touring family and friends around. This bell tower is more beautiful at night as it lights up but it is beautiful anyway no matter what time of the day it is. It is near all the other tourist attractions in Xian so you can definitely drop by here and admire its beauty. You can go inside as well if that is what you prefer for only 35 rmb. Enjoy!

Xian art gallery
Location: Xian Zhonglou Art Gallery, Xian, Shaanxi, China
Entrance fee: 50¥
Date: June 22, 2022
This is a nice art gallery in the center of Xian. It’s quite small but there are different parts, where we can take photos, walk around and enjoy the view.
This is an awesome place to take pictures for social media. There are mirrors, colorful lights and many interesting things which will catch your attention. My fav part was the universe: planets and the moon.

Bell Tower of Xi'an
Location: Bell Tower, the center of Xi'an. Also known as Zhong Lou.
Getting there: Take line 2 subway to Zhong Lou station.
This landmark is in the very center of Xi'an. It is located between the north and south gate of the city wall. A short walk from Muslim street, this is a large roundabout area where you can admire this traditional building. You can pay 35 RMB to get inside and get a fine view of Xi'an from the top.
I enjoy going to the City Wall and go to Drum Tower (both nearby) to photograph Bell Tower.
There are shopping malls nearby to enjoy food and drink too.

Bell & Drum Towers of Xi’an 🔔 🥁
Rainy evening in downtown Xi'an 🌧🌧🌧
Bell Tower located in the center of Xi'an, at the intersection of the four streets of the east, west, south and north. It is the largest and most preserved one amongst the many bell towers left over from ancient China.
The Drum Tower is closeby along the northwest of the Bell Tower. Both of them are called the “sister buildings” or “morning bell and dark drum”.
One could walk along the streets of Muslim Quarters nearby tasting a number of delicious Shaanxi snacks and also checkout the Great Mosque, one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China.

Bell Tower of Xian
Location: Bell tower, Xian, Shaanxi, China
Entrance fee: Free
Date: February 6 & 22, 2022
The Bell Tower of Xian built in 1384 during Ming dynasty. It’s located in the center of the city.
There’s a legend about the Bell Tower. There was a huge underground snake, who was the cause of frequent earthquakes in the city. The Bell Tower was built to expel the Snake from the Chinese land. After its construction, the earthquake really stopped happening, and the tower was assigned with another functions. Every morning, the huge Bell Tower announced the start of the day to Xian citizens.
This place is very beautiful and it’s surrounded with shopping malls, cafes and restaurants. Muslim street is next to the Bell Tower. So you can go there, eat some local food and yummy snacks.

"The luxury Shaanxi Cuisine"
Xi'an Fan Zhuang Restaurant 西安饭庄
Location: Shaanxi Province, Xi'an City, Beilin District, Da Jie 110 (just right in front of Bell Tower)
The Delicious Shaanxi Cuisine could be tasted right up here. Actually, I discovered this place accidentally during my roaming the surroundings of Bell Tower. I just planned to across the road by underground path and suddenly spotted the board of restaurant. The dishes are unbelievable tasty! Yes, it is required to wait until the food be cooked, because it is not street food, but it worth it.

Bell Tower
The Bell Tower with a history of over 600 years, is located at the center of Xian City, at the junction of the South, North, East and West Roads in the city. It is the largest bell tower in structure and shape and best-preserved one in China.
What to See in the Bell Tower
【Giant Bell】The bell originally hanging in the Bell Tower bell was the Jingyun Bell casted in Tang Dynasty, which was used in Jinglong Temple before. In early Ming Dynasty, it was moved to the Bell Tower. In 1953, the bell was protected and moved to Xian Stone Steles Museum, and now is exhibit in Dongting of Ermengli.
【Inscription】At the west wall of Xian Bell Tower’s first floor of the hall were inlaid with three inscriptions: the first one was from Xian People’s Government after the renovation in 1953; the second o ne was left by Shaanxi Provincial Governor Zhang Kaishu in Qing Dynasty; and the third inscription was wrote by Gong Maoxiang, the Shaanxi Supervisory Censor of Ming Dynasty.
【Couplets】On the four doors of the second floor of the tower, there is on couplets on each door.

Xi'an has the most light up buildings I've ever seen in China. It is so colorful that you must walk around during the evenings and experience it yourself ❣ There is no specific place but rather various areas to visit. If you like to take pictures and capture the moment like me then this is something that you will love 👌
In below pictures you see the Bell Tower, the Giant Goose Pagoda and parts of the Datang Everbright city.

If you really into architectures, you would like Xi’an
The historic Bell Tower from early Ming dynasty. I love how the city built its roads and new buildings around the Bell Tower. A perfect example of preserving history while developing the city.
the Bell tower is at the very heart of this beautiful and authentic city of Xi'An. it serves as an orientation to the airport shuttle bus so If you don't know where this particular shuttle bus goes to - just ask whether it goes to Xi'an Bell tower. if so - you will go straight to the city center. the shuttle bus actually stops a bit further - at the gate if the bell tower hotel but it's within 5 minutes walk to Subway station and to various public transits

I prefer Xi’an bell tower at night. The light was so eye catchy😍 I came around bell tower almost everyday during night. my hostel was around that area. The thing is i never made it inside. Me and my cousin were busy going to places that further away and forgot about this beauty. If only this place opened at night..

西安, Xi'an is home of the Terracotta Warriors constructed to accompany the tomb of China's First Emperor as an afterlife guard. Xi'an has a modern style with old City walls. It has been the capital over 13 imperial dynasties from about 3,000 to 1,000 years ago. It has a long and storied history, which is how it came to be called the fountainhead of civilization for China. The city centre revolves around the Muslim quarter and the famous Muslim food street, which is always crowded with hustle, bustle and a wide variety of delicacies. It was like a "designer wear fashion show" to watch the colorful and stylish scarves of Chinese muslim women. I have been to Xi'an 3 times and would love to go again.#xian #food #architecture
Belongs to Xi'an's "Xi'an City Walk"
Xi'an always exudes a profound sense of culture and humanity. As you genuinely traverse through its history, you can subtly perceive a connection that transcends time and space.
👍Recommended: Yongning Gate City Wall
👍Recommended: Xi'an Stele Forest Museum
👍Recommended: Shuyuan Street
On this journey, one can witness the central axis and the cultural humanity of the four districts of Xi'an's ancient city. It feels as if the blocks from abroad have originated from the markets of Xi'an. Perhaps this is the charm of a city that has been the capital of thirteen dynasties.
Traveling to and from Xi'an 15 times, this weekend tour route is extremely worry-free!

★★★★☆
The stir-fry and bread soaking combo is quite filling. One serving is enough for two people

★★★
The lamb in basin is average, but the grilled skewers sandwiched in baked buns are delicious!!

Xi'an, Shaanxi | Bell and Drum Towers Lingering between the morning bells and evening drums
The Drum Tower of Xi'an was built in the 13th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1380), by the Marquis of Changxing Geng Bingwen and the then Prefect of Xi'an Wang Zongzhou. Its history predates the Bell Tower by several years. The Drum Tower has undergone multiple renovations throughout history, with significant repairs carried out in the 38th year of Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1699) and the 5th year of Qianlong (1740). Particularly after the renovation in the 5th year of Qianlong, Zhang Kai, the governor of Shaanxi, imitated the handwriting of Emperor Qianlong to write the four characters 'Wen Wu Sheng Di' (meaning 'A Place Flourishing in Civil and Military Affairs'), which were made into a huge plaque and hung on the north side of the Drum Tower, and these characters are still the focus of attention today.
The Bell Tower and Drum Tower of Xi'an are the largest and best-preserved of their kind among the existing similar buildings in China. The term 'Bell and Drum Towers' refers to both the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, which were ancient Chinese time-telling structures. The Bell Tower is a pavilion-style building with a double-eaved, three-tiered, four-angled spire roof, while the Drum Tower was a building in ancient cities where large drums were placed. They were used to sound alarms by beating the drums or to report the time at regular intervals. The rational architectural structure, magnificent colors, and elegant decorative components of the Bell and Drum Towers all possess rich and distinctive national cultural characteristics, making them iconic buildings of Xi'an.

What's worth visiting in Xi'an?
Visiting Xi'an, you can easily get around by subway🚇.
The first day, I went to Sajinqiao, a snack street loved by the locals.
The snacks here are good and cheap,
and there's a wide variety!
-
Recommended snacks
1. Persimmon cake
2. Roujiamo🥙
3. Hulatang (the takeout is also incredibly tasty😋)
4. Grilled skewers! (Choose the ones skewered on iron sticks, not the wooden ones)
5. Steamed cake, a local favorite made from glutinous rice
-
You must visit the Bell Tower in the city center at night 👍.
The night view really has a great atmosphere.
If possible and you have enough time, definitely go for a Hanfu makeover, it truly gives you the instant feeling of being back in the Tang Dynasty! At night, bring a small light for better lighting.
-
For the Hanfu makeover, make sure to allow enough time! If you go on holidays, you will definitely have to queue and it can disrupt your schedule! You can book online in advance🌹.
-
Datang Everbright City🌆
Don't miss the evening performances here! If you go too late, they'll be over! Check the schedule in advance.
-
We missed it!
😣
Datang Everbright City's food is just so-so, Sajinqiao has the best food😋.

Come to Xi'an and be a Tang Dynasty princess for once!

✅ The countdown bell for the annual Spring Festival Gala comes from the Jingyun Bell in the Bell Tower, but now a replica is displayed there, while the real Jingyun Bell is kept in the Beilin Museum
📷 Photo spots:
Recommended photo spots
✅ Take photos from the central axis above the Yongning Gate of the city wall to capture the Bell Tower's daytime scenery (Picture 2)
✅ From the Bell Tower, capture the hustle and bustle below, giving a sense of prosperity (Picture 5, top left)
✅ The observation deck on the 5th floor of Kaiyuan Shopping Mall is free and offers a fantastic view of the sunset and night scene, but it's best to go early as it can get crowded...
✅ Bell Tower night scene (Picture 3), there are many small stalls nearby that will take your photo, with prices around 8-10 yuan/piece, which is a great way to commemorate your visit
💮 Nearby attractions and food:
✅ After visiting the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, we went straight to the nearby Muslim Street! Xi'an is truly a carb paradise! So fragrant 😻😻😻 Dive right in, the main street is worth a look, but the side streets have more authentic flavors and slightly cheaper prices 🌟🌟
✅ You can also visit the ancient city wall ▶️ Yongning Gate South Gate, just one subway stop away or within walking distance, but be sure to pay attention to the signs at the Bell Tower subway station, as the roundabout has many exits and it can be quite confusing 😫😫~~

1️⃣ On the second floor of Kaiyuan Shopping Mall, turn left to the red corridor.
It's right where the escalator goes up.
You can capture the entire Bell and Drum Tower.
There was also a 🇨🇳 flag next to it, which really matched perfectly~
Remember to use the flash📸️
2️⃣ The observation terrace on the 5th floor of Kaiyuan Shopping Mall
The high position allows you to overlook the entire Bell Tower.
The scenery is great, but it's a bit difficult to take pictures of people~
·
Try to zoom in for the shot
Or blur out the people for a more atmospheric feel~
Xi'an | A walking tour around the Bell Tower to check in
Friends~ When visiting Xi'an, a City walk near the Bell Tower is a must, and I've organized a route that doesn't require backtracking, making travel easy and enjoyable!
📍Start from Exit 3 of the Bell Tower Station subway passage and walk about 600 meters straight to find the spicy Doula red Xi'an wall
📍Continue forward for another 100 meters and turn left to find the Erhui Lane Chang'an wall
📍After checking in, walk straight for less than 100 meters to find the Starbucks coffee shop, which features the Starbucks Xi'an wall inside
📍After checking in, there is a street next to it that is great for street photography. Walk straight, turn left, and you can get back to the road, then continue straight for about 200 meters, go through the underpass to Shuyuanmen
📍After visiting Shuyuanmen, don't backtrack, just walk south from Anju Lane
📍You can walk directly to the city wall, which is a great spot for photos! After taking great shots, return the way you came, and remember not to go through the underpass
📍Walk straight for about 300 meters on the sidewalk next to the underpass entrance to check in at the Chongqing Chang'an wall
📍After taking photos here, you can go to the Bell Tower and the Muslim Street! The order depends on your own time schedule. If the lights of the Bell Tower are not yet on, you can go to the Muslim Street to eat first; if the lights are on, take a photo with the Bell Tower first and then head to the Muslim Street, either way is fine.
📍Besides taking photos below the Bell Tower, you can also go to the fifth floor of the Kaiyuan Shopping Mall to the observation deck, where you can see a panoramic view of the Bell Tower!
🌷Warm Tips: It is recommended to come here for photos and check-ins around 4 pm, as the lighting is good for photography, and after the tour, you'll catch the Bell Tower lighting up, making a perfect one-way route without backtracking~

Xi'an Bell and Drum Tower
The ancient Chang'an has a long history of 'using bells and drums to tell the morning'. As the saying goes, 'when the night leak is exhausted, the drum sounds, and when the day leak is exhausted, the bell rings', the morning bell and the evening drum are the symbols of ancient Chinese city life. Therefore, when you come to the center of Xi'an, you must see the Ming Dynasty Bell and Drum Tower. The Bell and Drum Towers echo each other, which is spectacular. Tang Dynasty poet Li Xian's poem 'The morning bell and the evening drum do not reach the ears, the bright moon and the lonely cloud always hang the feelings' is a precise description of the two towers. From the Bell and Drum Tower, you can look at the Muslim Street, especially when the night falls, the brightly lit Bell and Drum Tower, as if showing the style of Xi'an, the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, in front of your eyes
Xi'an
First stop in Xi'an, you can choose to stay around the Drum Tower. During the day, you can visit Shuyuanmen, Muslim Street, Xiangzi Temple, there are a lot of delicious food, the average cost is about thirty to forty, the specialty souvenirs are also very cost-effective. In the evening, you can take photos and check in around the Drum Tower and Bell Tower. Xi'an Bell Tower.
Visited the Xi'an Bell Tower, Yongning Gate, and Small Wild Goose Pagoda on the fourth day of the lunar new year, a great free place to visit in Xi'an
During the Spring Festival, the South Street between Xi'an Yongning Gate and the Bell Tower is crowded with tourists, and you can often see pleasing Hanfu girls passing by. They mostly get their makeup done at the Hanfu shops on West Street west of the Bell Tower.
The Yongning Gate, built during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, is majestic and broad, and the Bell Tower, built during the Ming Hongwu period, is towering and tall, fully displaying the charm of the ancient city of Chang'an!
I didn't make it to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda yesterday, but I made an early reservation for the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, queued up at the door, and got in as I wished. Note that you must enter the park within the reservation time.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which was damaged by an earthquake, is a relic of the Tang Dynasty. The tower body is beautiful and soft, yet strong, which is completely different from the Ying County Wooden Tower I saw in Shanxi.
The Xi'an Museum next to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is also very good. There are many genuine cultural relics unearthed from ancient tombs.
Today's attractions are free, but you can experience the prosperity of the ancient city and the architectural culture of the Tang Dynasty up close. It costs 30 yuan to climb the Bell Tower, and there is a New Year's lantern show on Yongning Gate for 100 yuan, but seeing the dense crowd and my limited time, I decided not to spend money to join in the fun!
