The legendary paradise, Rain Cascade Village
If you truly love or hate someone, you must bring "them" here for a hike. A hidden paradise that attracts adventure seekers and nature lovers from around the world. Nestled amidst towering mountains and pristine landscapes, it offers a unique and unforgettable experience for those willing to embark on its challenging yet rewarding hiking routes.
To reach Yubeng village, one must first travel to the town of Feilaisi. From there, the journey continues on foot or by horseback, as no roads lead directly to the village. The trek to Yubeng village is divided into two main routes: the Upper Yubeng route and the Lower Yubeng route.
The Upper Yubeng route offers stunning alpine scenery with the Sacred Waterfall and Ice Lake as highlights. The Lower Yubeng route passes through rhododendron forests and alongside the Mekong River, leading to the Holy Waterfall and Hidden Glacier. Both routes converge at Yubeng village, where visitors can experience Tibetan culture and embark on breathtaking hikes in the surrounding area.#mountainview #mytripvlog #wecreate #urbanexplorer #awesomepic #2023travelwish #couplestrip

Glacier Lake
Getting There- first getting to the glacier lake requires you to first arrive in the upper you want village once you arrive there you follow the very clear, mapped out trails into a steep incline up into the snow mountain. How long is the hike to glacier lake? Wow that depends summer it’s around six hours back-and-forth winter I would say 7 to 8 hours. but this lake is well worth it in the summer time you can see the Clearwater you can see the mini waterfalls coming off of the mountain and the winter time you get to see the frozen lake you hike through the snow and you are standing at the base of the snow mountain.

Glacier Lake, Yubeng, Meili Snow Mountains
Glacier Lake, Yubeng, Meili Snow Mountains, Yunnan, China.
A long hike, mostly uphill for 3 miles, and then downhill and flat for a mile, ending with a steep uphill climb for half a mile or more. Took 2.5 hours to get to the lake, walked around and had lunch for about 40 minutes and then hiked down in about 1.5 hours, with one short break for snacks and photos.
I really liked the hike. Lots of diversity with the terrain, views, and challenge.
Started well after most others hiking, but caught them all and was the first to the lake. The hike says 7 to 8 hours on Chinese sites, but closer to 6 on English sites. It was mostly old people and college kids. I haven't seen many families or younger kids hiking. Maybe still in school or not their interests.
I met a little friend along the way. The puppy was following others from a guesthouse and left them behind and followed me from the point the trail began a short downhill descent and up the final climb to the lake.
Stayed by my side at the lake, but didn't continue on the way down. I think she wanted food, but didn't have any, so she eventually left.
I had another strawberry ice cream as a reward, but I'd much rather have homemade ice cream with a cone rather than packaged on a stick. Still good though.

The Hike to Upper Yubeng Village
Getting There - Yubeng is a Tibetan village at the foot of Meili Snow Mountain at an altitude of over 3,000 meters. There is only one road linking the village to the outside world and taking a local transport (very expensive at around 300RMB one way per person) or hiking are the main ways to get to it.
Xidang village is the most popular starting point for Yubeng hiking. From Xidang, it takes about four hours to reach the Upper Yubeng Village where all kinds of choices of accommodation are readily available these days.
Before the hike I left most of my stuff and my camping gears with the hotel at Feilaisi outside Xidang village as I was told that the hike is gonna be tough. But actually the hike turned out to be very manageable despite the steep ascent in the beginning part of the trail.
The views along the way are also beautiful. I absolutely enjoyed hiking to upper Yubeng village instead of taking the transport. 💯 recommended!

Sacred Waterfall(神瀑)
Sacred Waterfall is about 6kms from lower Yubeng Village. There is already a paved trail leading to the Sacred Waterfall, so don't worry that you will get lost or sth. First you will walk through the forest along the stream with many 玛尼堆s piled up. There are also several pavilions you can rest a bit. But if the squirrels see you, they will run over or jump on you for food.
In the middle, there is a store selling yak milk which was pretty yummy and snacks. The boss also raises some lovely and docile horses, I can't help touching them though I was a little bit afraid😅
It took me around 3 hours to reach the top with a wild area of prayer flags. Unfortunately, it was winter time, so no waterfall, instead of some ice fall But it's a stunning view, the colorful prayer flags waving in the white snow. It's said your dream will come true if you pray under the waterfall sincerely. So if you go there, do remember to make a wish! I wanna go back again in May or June when it's green with flowers, as well as falling waterfall.

Yubeng Village(雨崩村)| An Idyllic Land
Yubeng Village is an idyllic land of 3000m altitude with only 2 available roads from Xidang Village or Ninong direction. It takes 6-8 hours to hike into the village from Xidang Village or 1 hour drive (cost 200 RMB, other cars are not allowed to drive into the village as it's really difficult to drive).
It was stunning all along not only because of the virgin forest with snow, but also the amazing snow mountains, which you will feel so close to.
The village is seperated as upper village and lower village with 900m altitude difference, takes 35-40 minutes to reach. Staying in upper village, you can enjoy two snow mountains: 神女峰 & 五佛峰, and a nice view of lower village, closer to the Icy Lake(冰湖). While in lower village, there is a temper and small lake with the reflection of the snow mountain, feels like a drawing, it's closer to Sacred Waterfall(神瀑)and Sacred Lake(神湖)and the Ninong valley.
In the morning, you can enjoy morning bell ring of the cows, early sunrise reflecting on the snow mountains; enjoy the forest or stream at noon, and sunset in lower village. What else can we ask for!?

Yubeng village, the hide village
there are 2 ways to get there, both arrive in Xidang (西当), then you can choose to hike till Yubeng which it's taking about 6-7 hours, or use the car which the cost is 200 rmb per person.
there are 3 main hikes to do it:
the glacier lake, will take around 8-9 hours go and back, it's super nice, the hike is pretty hard
for the water falls, it takes 5 hours, the path is made complete by concrete so not so good, the water falls are nice, you can walk under them and drink the water.
the third one, I didn't do so I can't say how it is.
both the hikes I did, unfortunately there's rubbish around even if there are rubbish bin and behind the house where you can buy water, it's very dirty.
there are many hotels to choose, depends on your budget, some are in construction, I stayed whole the time in upper Yubeng which from my point of view has better view.

Hike to Glacial Lake at 3600m!
Getting There - Start this hike from Upper Yubeng Village
Attractions - Many prayer flags and sites along the way. The trail is marked with red flags and a great viewing platform half way. It’s quite steep in some parts. I completed this hike in 5 hours.
Hotels - I stayed in Upper Yubeng village at Gap Time.
Food & Restaurants - There’s some noodles and water available at base camp but I recommend bringing your own.

Yubeng Village
Yubeng is one of the best places to hike in China (in my opinion). The 11kish hike from Xidong is a pleasant one and there are 3 main hikes from Yubeng Village. the Sacred Waterfall and Glacier Lake. both are lovely but the lake is a much tougher hike. There are 2 parts to Yubeng… upper and lower. upper is where you start the lake hike and the waterfall is from lower. leaving the village you can either hike to Ninong ( I would advise this) or back to Xidong. you can find buses from Ninong back to Deqen or Shangri La.

Sacred Waterfall hike in Yubeng
Getting There - Start your hike at either Lower or Upper Yubeng. Stone path leads the way to the waterfall!
Attractions - Many sacred sites and colorful prayer flags along the way. The first half of the hike follows the river 💦
Hotels - Many options in Lower and Upper Yubeng - I liked Gap Time Hostel
Food & Restaurants - Small shop just before the summit for water and snacks but I recommend bringing your own
I completed this hike in about 3 hours.

Glacier Lake - Yubeng
Another of Yubengs epic hikes. This one is more difficult than sacred waterfall. There is a nice easy trail in the approach to the forest. Then the incline begins. There is a rough track and you mostly covered by the forest for about 2km. This was the most challenging part of the hike. From here you move out of the forest to a plateau. There is a straight forward walk towards the lake. The final 800m are quite tough. You will stop a lot for rests. The plateau scenery is fantastic. The 3n half hr hike is worth it when you see the glacier lake. The hike down is easy in the dry , unfortunately it rained and we descended slowly as it’s dangerous when it rains. Fantastic experience overall .

Yubeng Sacred Waterfall hike
One of 4 hikes offered in the Yubeng area this one is probably the easiest. The trek begins in lower Yubeng with a nice stroll into the forest. You can here the river flow beside you as you walk. The first 3k are easy and then the walk gets steeper. It’s concrete steps all the way and when you reach the waterfall you won’t be disappointed. There is one place to get snacks along the way but you should bring your own. It took us 2 n half hrs from upper Yubeng to reach the summit. Decending is fine. Fantastic hike overall. No need to hit it that early as there is limited things to do in the evening in Yubeng.

Yunnan Hike: Yubeng Village
Yubeng Village: A secluded and unknown place in an alphine valley mere kms from the Tibetan border. It was never discovered and not accesible by road. You can either trek in on your own or ride a mule to go to the village.
Everyone may have heard of tiger leaping gorge or Jade Dragon Snow Mountain but not many people have heard of this small village - A village that is situated 3000m above sea level.
Day 1: Yubeng Village 13-16km
Day 2: Sacred waterfall 14-18km
DAY 3: Glacier lake trek 18km
Glacier lake formed by snow water from Meili Snow Mountain and the main water resource of Yubeng Village. Absolutely intimidated by the snowmelt point and the narrow path along the way and the trek itself was no easy feat mainly due to the uninvited visitor AMS at 3.6ft.
As we ascend and descend so quickly for the first 3-4km, the AMS symtoms started showing when i was at 3.6 and above. But i conquered the entire trail and managed to reach to the top (3.8ft above sea level).

Yubeng The Beauty of Silence
Yubeng memories: Crisp mountain air, prayer flags dancing in the wind, and heartwarming Tibetan hospitality. Trekking through stunning landscapes, witnessing sunrise over snow-capped peaks, and forging friendships under starlit skies. Each moment, a treasure in this remote Himalayan gem.

A Hidden World Beyond the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
A Hidden World Beyond the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
After being deeply impressed by the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijiang, I embarked on a journey to Yubeng, where even more stunning natural beauty lies hidden.
Passing through Shaxi, I witnessed the historical traces of the Tea Horse Road. Outside the car window, the snowy expanse of Napahai, a fleeting glimpse of the Songzanlin Monastery, and the Lancang River raging incessantly through the gorge. Crossing the Baima Snow Mountain, a pristine white landscape unfolded before my eyes.
🌄 The Winter Scroll of Yubeng Village East of Meili, at the foot of the sacred mountain, lies Yubeng Village, where in winter, the wooden houses are neatly scattered, smoke from cooking fires intertwines with the sound of cowbells, from the golden sunrise over the mountain to the bluesy twilight, the golden roof of the temple reveals its mystery in tranquility.
🏨 Wildtalk Hotel: A Warm Haven Checking into the Wildtalk Hotel was an anticipation of my trip. Outside was a world of ice and snow, while inside was as warm as spring, with attentive service that made one feel at home. In the morning, there was no need to rush, waking up at 8 o'clock, enjoying breakfast in the lobby while admiring the magnificent view of the sunlit golden mountain.
📝 Yubeng Travel Tips
Direct flights to Diqing Shangri-La or Lijiang.
The high-speed train from Lijiang to Shangri-La only takes 1.5 hours.
It is recommended to stay in Shangri-La for one night to avoid missing the vehicle to Yubeng.
Take a business car from Shangri-La to Xidang Village parking lot, the journey takes about 4-5 hours, and the cost is about 600-700 yuan/car.
The Yubeng scenic area ticket is 55 yuan/person, you can choose to take an off-road vehicle in the scenic area or hike in (about 8 hours one way).
The round-trip tickets from Yubeng Village are 260 yuan and 200 yuan respectively, and the off-road vehicle may stop running in extreme weather.
The Yubeng scenic area stops selling tickets after 17:00 daily.
The breakfast at Wildtalk Hotel starts at 8:00, which is the best time to watch the sunlit golden mountain.

The most beautiful season has arrived, and the brave are the first to enjoy Yubeng!
"Paradise is to the left, Yubeng to the right"
This ancient Tibetan village deep in the Meili Snow Mountain
is a secret deep in Yunnan~
📍Located within the territory of Deqin County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at the foot of Meili Snow Mountain, it exists at an altitude of about 3000m or more, and here it is divided into Upper Yubeng and Lower Yubeng
Why choose autumn for Yubeng?
From the end of October, Yubeng officially enters the dry season
Clear skies are the norm, with only a few days of cloudy rain
✅No trouble from the rains, no muddy mountain roads
✅You can witness the autumn colors blooming all over the mountains
✅And there's a very high chance of seeing the golden sunrise on the mountain and the starry sky
🏠Accommodation:
✨Both Yubengs are made of wood and are Tibetan-style houses, with generally basic accommodation conditions.
✨I personally suggest staying one night at Feilai Temple before entering Yubeng, no need to get up early, and you can see Meili Snow Mountain from the hotel, with a very good angle.
🏃Main hiking routes
1. The Sacred Waterfall route (13.6km)
Starting from Lower Yubeng, the whole path is cement and stone steps, friendly to beginners, the waterfall is spectacular during the rainy season, and the colorful prayer flags are a highlight
2. The Ice Lake route (14km)
Starting from Upper Yubeng, you will pass through sea buckthorn and fir forests, pastures, streams, and rock piles, with beautiful scenery in summer and average in winter
3. The Caterpillar Fungus route (18km)
Starting from Upper Yubeng, the most beautiful route, surrounded by snow-capped mountains on a mountain ridge
Directly facing the shock of the Goddess Peak
4. The Sacred Lake route (10km)
Starting from Lower Yubeng, the whole way is uphill and heart-pounding, with an altitude of up to 4600
5. The Ninnong route (14km)
A must-pass route out of Yubeng, passing through forests, valleys, and cliffs
🚩Must-visit attractions
1⃣Yubeng Village
A village called the residence of immortals, without the noise of the city, only blue skies, snow mountains, primeval forests, and fearless little squirrels.
2⃣Ice Lake
"The heart of Kawagarbo," formed by the melting waters of the snow mountain, the lake water is deep green like jade.
3⃣Feilai Temple
Directly facing the thirteen peaks of Meili Snow Mountain, it is an excellent spot to watch the golden sunrise on the mountain. Catching the first ray of golden light on the snow mountain before sunrise can bring good luck for the whole year.
4⃣Songzanlin Monastery
"The Little Potala Palace," the NO.1 Tibetan Buddhist temple in Yunnan by scale. Walking around the lake at the temple's entrance, Lamuyangcuo, can unlock the hidden position of the temple's reflection in the lake!
5⃣Napa Lake
"The tear of Shangri-La," with the unique scenery of "winter sea and summer meadow," in winter the rising waters form "Napa Lake," and in summer the receding rainwater turns into "Yila Grassland."
💥Tips:
1. The ultraviolet rays are strong in the plateau area, so be sure to do enough sun protection!
2. To prevent altitude sickness: start taking Rhodiola rosea capsules a week in advance/highland Yubeng village peace, do not bathe when you first arrive at the highland, and do not engage in strenuous exercise.
3. Prepare enough vitamin tablets, energy bars, and beef jerky to replenish energy in time during hiking.
4. Friends who are hiking for the first time should try to set out early, as the mountain roads are complex to avoid walking at night.
5. You can prepare some cash as some places along the way may have poor signal.
6. The best time to see the golden sunrise on the mountain is from late October to March of the following year, remember to check the weather forecast before you go.
7. Clothing recommendation: waterproof jacket, fleece, quick-dry shirt, quick-thousand pants, and storm pants.

Yubeng
Yubeng, hiking. (The so-called 'body in hell, eyes in heaven' Yubeng) Yubeng Village Newbies (who lack exercise in the office every day) are advised to just take the route of the Divine Waterfall + Ice Lake (without climbing the mountain), which is enough. If you do go up the mountain, it's really best not to carry too much—two bottles of water and some snacks (like chocolate) should suffice, as carrying too much is truly unbearable. Pay attention to keeping warm; the hike can be quite challenging for newbies, and it's really cold up there, so wear a good jacket with a liner. The Divine Waterfall takes about 5-6 hours (the path is equipped with steps and stone slabs), while the Ice Lake takes 6-8 hours (the muddy path is even harder to walk on after rain). Yubeng is beautiful, but it's also really dirty, with trash everywhere. Please do not litter and carry your trash with you until you find a bin to dispose of it!! This article is not a guide for newbies, experts please don't criticize

I captured the photo of a lifetime in Yubeng
My first-ever hiking trip was dedicated to Yubeng. I have longed to visit Yubeng for a very long time, and since 2019, I have finally realized my dream of hiking there. It took a whole day to travel from Lijiang to Yubeng Village, and by the time I checked into the Upper Yubeng hostel, it was already six in the evening.
The plan was to take two routes: the first day was Upper Yubeng to the Ice Lake; the second day was Upper Yubeng to Lower Yubeng to the Sacred Waterfall.
1️⃣ The hike to the Ice Lake was exhilarating with many steep slopes. We set off at 8:30 in the morning and successfully reached the summit before one in the afternoon. On the way down, we 'slid' all the way;
2️⃣ The second day's hike to the Sacred Waterfall was much easier compared to the Ice Lake route. Unfortunately, it has been snowing in Yubeng for the past few days, and we couldn't reach the top of the waterfall due to an avalanche. Therefore, we only made it to the base camp before turning back. However, the snowy scenery of the Sacred Waterfall route was much more spectacular than that of the Ice Lake, and it was also particularly suitable for snowball fights. Hanging prayer flags and performing the Sarlonba were all done on the Sacred Waterfall route. Each has its own charm, but the path from Lower Yubeng to Upper Yubeng was really difficult to walk, with steep slopes all the way .
The original plan for the third day was to go down the mountain by off-road vehicle, but continuous snowfall in Yubeng had blocked the mountain roads. So we hiked from Upper Yubeng to Lower Yubeng, took a ride to the starting point of Ninong, and hiked eight kilometers down the mountain. It was indeed a pleasant surprise. The Ninong Grand Canyon is also very beautiful. The downhill was too shaky, and the last kilometer was completed entirely by willpower.

Autumn in Yubeng is rarely rainy, making it perfect for trekking
The climate in Yubeng Village is pleasant, and the scenery is beautiful. It is a place that combines the Golden Sunshine on the Meili Snow Mountain, colorful forests, icy lakes, waterfalls, and a mysterious village all in one. Here, you can hear the white noise of nature and the sound of your own heart❤️. Every day in autumn is beautiful, and this autumn is worth trekking for.

day1: Dali - Shangri-La (Songzanlin Monastery, Ancient Town)
day2: Shangri-La - Meili Snow Mountain (Wunongding)
day3: Meili Snow Mountain - Yubeng
day4: Yubeng
day5: Yubeng - Return trip
💴Ticket prices:
Feilai Temple Viewing Platform: 40 yuan (valid for three days).
Yubeng Scenic Area: 55 yuan.
⛺Tourist check-in:
1⃣️Meili Snow Mountain: At sunrise, the peaks are illuminated, dreamy and enchanting. Find a favorite hotel🏨, and admire the spectacular view of the thirteen peaks of Meili from the hotel. For viewing the snow mountain, I recommend Wunongding more.
2⃣️Yubeng Village: A village known as the residence of immortals, without the noise of the city, only blue skies, snow mountains, primeval forests, and fearless little squirrels🐿️.
3⃣️Songzanlin Monastery: Known as the 'Little Potala Palace', it is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan and is worth visiting for its spectacular sights.
🌟Travel tips:
1⃣️Be sure to try trekking in Yubeng, remember when climbing a mountain to lift your hips before your feet, I relied solely on a walking stick and a baseball cap, braving the wind and rain with willpower, believe in yourself.
2⃣️Meili Snow Mountain is at a high altitude, you can choose to rest in a hotel for one night to enjoy the beauty of the snow mountain. Avoid strenuous exercise, and it is not recommended to take a bath on the first night.
3⃣️Friends who are afraid of altitude sickness should drink Rhodiola one week in advance and prepare oxygen in advance.
4⃣️Bring some high-calorie food: chocolate, beef jerky, etc., stop and replenish at any time when you are tired from trekking.
5⃣️Places to watch the Golden Sunshine on the Meili Snow Mountain include: rooftops of various homestays and hotels, Wunongding viewing platform, Feilai Temple scenic area, all are possible.
6⃣️When self-driving to Yubeng, you need to transfer to a local off-road vehicle to go to Upper and Lower Yubeng, private cars are not allowed into the village.

Death Hiking Guide
(🔺3050m) Start to reach the God Lake (🔺4400m), then climb up 🔝500m to reach the Cuka Ridge (🔺4900m), see the Goddess Peak and the Five Crown Peak. The whole journey is 13km round trip, with an altitude climb of about 🔝1850m.
Hiking Difficulty:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, advanced route, the most difficult route in Yubeng. ℹ️⚠️ Not recommended for hiking beginners. ❗️You can go to God Lake without a guide, the track is obvious. ℹ️But for God Lake plus, it is recommended to hire a guide, one is that the plus section is more dangerous, and the other is that it is safer to have a guide when there is snow or rain on the mountain.
🔶Transportation🔶
1⃣ Shangri-La—Ni Nong—Lower Yubeng Village➡️See the previous guide—Reverse through Yubeng; 2⃣Lijiang or Shangri-La—Xi Dang—Lower Yubeng Village➡️ Direct or transfer to Lijiang from all over the place, after arriving in Lijiang, share a car to Xi Dang (270 yuan/person), takes 6h✔️Direct or transfer to Shangri-La from all over the place, then share a car to Xi Dang (120 yuan/person), takes 4h✔️After arriving in Xi Dang, buy a 55 yuan ticket. 🔺How to enter the village🔺↘️Hiking. (The whole journey is about 13km, takes 5-7h, cross the Nan Zheng Pass, climb 1000m, descend 550m.) ↘️Take an off-road vehicle, to Upper Yubeng (200 yuan/person), to Lower Yubeng (260 yuan/person).
🔶Equipment List🔶
Backpack (15L—20L), hiking shoes, quick-drying clothes, storm jacket (bright color, for taking photos), fleece hat, warm gloves, headlamp, hiking stick, knee pads (steep slope, used for downhill), sunglasses, snow cover, simple ice claws, 2L water, one meal on the road, 500ml thermos cup of hot water (remember to bring), energy gel.
🔶God Lake Route Introduction🔶
1⃣ Start from Lower Yubeng Village at 8 am and walk the God Lake plus line. At the beginning, it is a long-distance climb, the track is clear, you can feel the change of different vegetation, you will pass through a large bamboo forest, the whole journey is a dirt road.
2⃣Arrive at the crosscut section at 11 o'clock, the gentle path on the hillside, about 1 kilometer, you can see a large rhododendron forest.
3⃣After this section, enter the snow line, the snow starts to get thicker, there is a small section of gravel road, cross two passes to reach God Lake.
4⃣After a rest, walk the plus section from the left and right sides, both sides have routes. ℹ️If you are an old donkey, you can follow the two-step track. If you are a beginner, you need to hire a guide. I think both sides can be called the God Lake plus section, the left section is more dangerous, the right section is more gentle in the climbing process. We walked on both sides, I walked on the left route. It is recommended to bring knee pads for downhill, the downhill is enough to abuse, protect the knees.

Yubeng, is a pilgrimage place for trekkers, where you can feel the majesty and sanctity of the snow-capped mountains, and enjoy the unparalleled shock brought to you by the moment of sunrise.
Without experiencing it, it's hard to empathize.
🍭Yubeng, due to its location on the plateau, transportation is not very convenient, you can either trek into Yubeng village or take a local off-road vehicle, the original state is well preserved.

Yubeng Ice Lake:
At an altitude of 4100 meters, you can stay in Upper Yubeng Village, and set off from Upper Yubeng Village to the Ice Waterfall, which is formed by the melting of ice and snow from Meili Snow Mountain. The altitude is high and trekking is somewhat difficult.
📍Yubeng Divine Waterfall:
At an altitude of 3600 meters, you can choose to stay in Lower Yubeng Village, and there is about 800 meters of climbing from the village entrance, a total of 14 kilometers, walking and sightseeing takes about 5-7 hours. The road is relatively good, and there is a slight altitude sickness when climbing.
📍Nylon Grand Canyon:
At an altitude of 2100 meters, it is the only way out of Lower Yubeng Village. The road is very narrow, with towering mountains on one side and deep canyons on the other. The whole journey is downhill, without difficulty.

Yubeng | Hiker’s Paradise
If you are looking for a little off road experience and breathtaking views, visit Yubeng in Yunnan.
I combined my trip to Yubeng with a visit to Shangrila as both are not too far from each other.
There are only 2 ways you can access this small village nestled between mountains ranges. You hike in for 4-6 hours or take an off road Jeep for 20-30mins that takes you through winding paths through the mountains - can be tricky if you are the car sick type.
I went in winter - can be quite cold if you are planning to hike and some of the hikes can be quite tough. You need ice crampons. Some of the easier routes are very well marked and harder ones are not.
I would go again in spring/summer as I was told the views are completely different and the hiking trails are a little easier. You can also see fields of wildflowers blooming in Spring.

What I long for in life is nothing more than freedom and the distance.
'Paradise is to the left, Yubeng is to the right'
This ancient Tibetan village deep in the Meili Snow Mountain is a secret deep in Yunnan, nine hours away
From sunny days to heavy snowfall, the altitude gradually climbs and breathing becomes more labored
Snow-capped mountains surround, prayer flags fluttering
I was fortunate to encounter the sunrise at the sacred village in heaven, when the mountain gains color as the sunlight shines on the snow mountain
All the beauty will also arrive as promised

Travel together to Yubeng and give your soul a good rest, letting your body completely relax!
If you don't go to heaven, go to Yubeng. This was the conclusion of hiking enthusiasts more than a decade ago about Yubeng Village in Diqing, Yunnan. Trekking in the highland forests is both a challenge and a pleasure. It's really enjoyable to go trekking in Yubeng with a few good friends. What are the things to pay attention to and the budget considerations?
1. Itinerary: Yubeng Village is quite large, with three mature trekking routes: the Ice Lake route, the Sacred Waterfall route, and the Nylam route. The most challenging is undoubtedly the Ice Lake route. It is recommended to stay overnight in lower Yubeng, rest, and then start trekking after watching the sunrise the next morning. The easiest route might be the Sacred Waterfall route, which has already been well developed.
2. Ticket budget: The current ticket price for Yubeng Village is 70 yuan, with ticket offices at the entrance of the village. Currently, tickets cannot be purchased online and must be bought on-site, but non-cash payments are supported. There are off-road vehicles from the entrance to upper Yubeng for 200 yuan per person, and from upper to lower Yubeng for 260 yuan per person. It is recommended to go just to upper Yubeng, as the stations for upper and lower Yubeng are very close to each other, and there's no need to waste an extra 60 yuan. The budget for tickets is 70 + 200×2 = 470 yuan.
3. Accommodation budget: Both upper and lower Yubeng Village have a considerable number of guesthouses. Although recent commercial development has taken away some of the original ecological charm, the accommodation conditions have improved a lot. The average cost for a standard guesthouse is around 300 yuan, while high-end homestays average about 800 yuan. The guesthouse where I stayed, which had a view, was an economical type costing 350 yuan per night. However, ordinary guesthouses in Yubeng do not provide toiletries and toothbrushes, which must be purchased separately. The cost for staying 2 nights in a guesthouse is 700 yuan.
4. Food budget: There are many more places to eat in Yubeng Village than there were ten years ago, and prices have decreased with the market mechanism. In addition to the simple restaurants opened by local Tibetans, there are also Hunan and Sichuan restaurants opened by people from other places. The average cost per person is generally over 100 yuan. The cost of dining for 3 days with friends was 2000 yuan, with an average cost of 1000 yuan per person.
5. Transportation budget: From Shangri-La city center, take a bus directly to Deqin bus station, then transfer to a rural bus to Feilaisi. Usually, you take the rural bus to Xidang Village entrance in the morning, buy a ticket, and enter Yubeng Village. There are 5 buses a day from Shangri-La to Deqin bus station, departing at 9:20, 10:30, 12:30, 14:10, and 15:40, with a ticket price of 62 yuan. It is recommended to buy tickets online in advance, as they can be quite tight. The bus fare from Deqin bus station to Feilaisi is 5 yuan, and from Feilaisi to Xidang Village (Yubeng Village ticket office) is 20 yuan, making the round-trip fare 174 yuan.
In total, the cost for a 3-day, 2-night trip to Yubeng Village is 470 yuan + 700 yuan + 1000 yuan + 174 yuan = 2344 yuan.

I thought Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was beautiful, until I went to Yubeng
After visiting Lijiang and witnessing the majesty of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
After going to Shaxi and witnessing the traces of the ancient Tea Horse Road
I once again embarked on a journey to Yubeng
Outside the car window is the snow-covered Napahai
A fleeting glimpse of the Songzanlin Monastery
Further ahead is the surging Lancang River winding through the canyons
Entering the Baima Snow Mountain, it becomes a vast expanse of endless white
-
To the east of Meili, at the foot of the sacred mountain
Lies the destination of this trip, Yubeng Village
In the winter, the village houses are neatly arranged
With the morning smoke curling up and the sound of cowbells
From the morning's sunlight on the Golden Mountain to the arrival of the blues
The golden roof of the temple appears tranquil and mysterious
-
Staying at the Wildtalk has been the long-awaited expectation of this trip
Outside is the icy world, with the snow mountain appearing and disappearing in the clouds
Inside the room, the warmth remains, and the comfortable temperature relaxes one
The thoughtful service is a sincere gesture to the guests
No need to get up too early in the morning, waking up at 8 am allows for
Enjoying breakfast in the lobby while admiring the sunlight on the Golden Mountain
