movie was just broadcast, we were attracted by the earth building with red lanterns! This time, I finally had the privilege of coming to this fantastic ancient town
Yunshuiyu scenic spot. It is a very long history. Huaiyuanlou and Heguilou are the most representative buildings in the Nanjing Tulou. History, Huaiyuan Building is the most complete double-circle round earth building, and the building is the representative of the inner corridor-style square building. It embodies the wisdom of the Chinese nation. They are especially quiet and calm in this ancient town, and because the big fish sea otter looks even more Mysterious, fascinating...
I just came back from a day trip to Yunshuiyao after the May Day holiday, and here's a guide to avoid the pitfalls
🔷 It takes over an hour to drive from Zhangzhou, and Nanjing Yunshuiyao ancient village is the filming location of Big Fish & Begonia - with Hakka earth buildings, century-old banyan trees, the ancient path of Goose Soft, and small bridges over flowing water, it really is a hidden gem to avoid the crowds during May Day! 📍 Address: Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, Navigation: Fujian Tulou Yunshuiyao Tourism Area
🚗 Transportation: Zhangzhou to Yunshuiyao, over an hour by car; Xiamen to Yunshuiyao, about 2 hours by car
🎫 Ticket: 90💰/person, includes Hegui Building, Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, and Huaiyuan Building
👣 Walking Route: Yunshuiyao Scenic Area Entrance ➡️ Hegui Building ➡️ Lover's Bridge ➡️ Waterwheel Banyan Tree ➡️ Cultural and Creative Hall ➡️ Huaiyuan Building
1⃣️ Hegui Building: The tallest earth building in Jingnan, characterized by its square shape, built on a marshland, constructed during the Qing Dynasty Yongzheng era, with a history of two hundred years, known as the 'Noah's Ark on land'.
2⃣️ Yunshuiyao Ancient Town: Famous for the movie of the same name, formerly known as Changjiao Village - Lover's Bridge, thousand-year-old banyan tree cluster, movie waterwheel, old street market, cultural and creative hall, strolling through the ancient village with small bridges and flowing water, it's really super leisurely.
3⃣️ Huaiyuan Building: The filming location of Big Fish & Begonia - a double-ring circular earth building, with a building within a building structure, beautifully constructed, and well-preserved. The large ring is for residences, and the small ring is for the school, filled with the scent of books.
‼️ Tips for Avoiding Pitfalls When Visiting
❎ You really don't need to join a tour group, it's very convenient to go on your own, and there's plenty of time.
✅ Hegui Building and Huaiyuan Building charge a 10💰/person fee to go upstairs, personally, I suggest just visiting Huaiyuan Building.
✅ The weather here changes unpredictably, so be prepared for sun protection and bring an umbrella.
✅ Wear comfortable shoes, the entire ancient stone path of Goose Soft takes over 3 hours to walk.
✅ It's recommended to stay overnight, without the daytime noise, waking up to the sound of birds in the morning is really leisurely.
🏠 Accommodation Recommendation
📍 Sheye·Qixin Valley Resort: Located between Hegui Building and Huaiyuan Building, a 5-minute walk to the ancient town is very convenient
⭐️ Garden rockery, small river flowing water, swans playing, having tea and chatting outdoors, it's really too fairy-like. This time we stayed in a bamboo loft family room, spacious and bright, exquisite and comfortable, with excellent service. Nine-grid breakfast, and there's also indoor billiards, golf, worth visiting again and again.
😋 Local Delicacies
✔️ Golden Thread Lily Stewed Duck Soup

Nanjing·Yunshuiyao Ancient Town|||
|||. Yunshuiyao Ancient Town is a historic village with a long history, originally named Changjiao. It gained fame after the movie 'Yunshuiyao' was filmed here, and the local government later renamed it 'Yunshuiyao Ancient Town'.
The town boasts breathtaking ancient banyan tree clusters that are over a thousand years old. A wide stream flows through the middle of the village, alongside which there are 13 ancient banyan trees, some hundreds and some thousands of years old. The largest tree has a canopy covering an area of 1933 square meters, requiring more than ten people to embrace its trunk.
Beneath the banyan trees is a thousand-year-old cobblestone path, which has been worn smooth by countless footsteps over the years.
The ancient path is over 10 kilometers long and, according to historical research, was the essential route from Changting Prefecture (Longyan City) to Zhangzhou Prefecture (Zhangzhou City), now known as 'Yunshuiyao Ancient Path'.
Next to the ancient path, there is a row of two-story old brick-and-wood structures, which is the centuries-old street market of Changjiao.
Moreover, the most eye-catching sights in the village are the earthen buildings scattered at the foot of the mountains, along the stream, and across the fields. These earthen buildings, which began construction in the mid-Yuan dynasty, are listed as 'World Cultural Heritage' for their magical shapes and unique cultural significance.
There are 53 well-preserved earthen buildings in Yunshuiyao, each with its own unique charm. The most famous are the Hegui Building, which is built on a marsh and known as the 'world's most extraordinary', and the Huaiyuan Building, which is a double-ring round earthen building known for its exquisite craftsmanship and good preservation.
Yunshuiyao Ancient Town offers a pleasant scenery where mountains, water, trees, and houses complement each other, making it an absolutely beautiful and spiritually inspiring place.
Yunshuiyao, small bridges, flowing water, and family homes
While writing this short essay, I came across a short video mocking Yunshuiyao. The general idea was that the place is packed with tourists, the vendors' hawking is noisy, and the tour guides' loudspeakers are as piercing as thunder, making it impossible to find the feeling of 'ancient roads, western winds, lean horses, small bridges, and flowing water homes' anymore. During the Spring Festival period, the visitor flow is even more astonishing, and the last few daytime photos truthfully record the spectacular scene of visitors at that time.
Peace leads to a long way; coming to a distant place, I want to be quiet. Walking out of the noisy city, everyone hopes to experience the artistic conception of 'ancient roads, western winds, lean horses, small bridges, and flowing water homes'.
The morning sun ☀️ quietly climbs over the mountain top, the golden sunlight awakens the sleeping small mountain village, the calm stream seems as if time has been frozen at this moment, and the crisp bird songs are like a beating rhythm, adding a bright color to the tranquil picture. Isn't this the feeling of 'small bridges, flowing water, and family homes' that we look forward to?
This moment only exists from 6:30 to 8:00 in the morning. Book a hotel on Ctrip, stay quietly, and wait for the arrival of 'small bridges, flowing water, and family homes'. This is the meaning of travel.
⛰【Attraction Strategy】
📍Detailed address: Yunshuiyao Ancient Village, Nanjing, Zhangzhou, Fujian.
🚗Transportation strategy: Take a high-speed train to Zhangzhou or Nanjing, then take a ride-hailing service or drive yourself.
🕙Opening hours: It seems like you can enter at any time.
💰Ticket price: Adult ticket is 90 yuan.
🌟Highlights:
1. The charm of 'small bridges, flowing water, and family homes', by the countryside streams, centuries-old banyan trees cover the sky and are worth savoring.
2. Huaiyuan Building, as one of the representatives of Fujian Tulou, is worth a visit.
📌Little Tips:
1. The small mountain village in the early morning is the whole meaning of travel, so be sure to book a hotel on Ctrip, get up early, and experience the charm of 'small bridges, flowing water, and family homes'.
2. During holidays, Huaiyuan Building is open for climbing before 8 am and after 7 pm. During the day, for safety and protection, visitors are prohibited from climbing.
Preserve the exquisite Tulou, the serene ancient paths, and the century-old banyan trees
Fujian Tulou Yunshuiyao Scenic Area, this ancient town once known as Changjiao, gained fame from the movie 'Yunshuiyao' which was shot here. The ancient village built along the stream resembles a painting scroll, with a cobblestone ancient trail stretching over 10 kilometers underfoot, bearing the heavy traces of history. Along the trail, towering old banyan trees with interwoven roots and canopy-like branches have witnessed hundreds or even thousands of years of vicissitudes.
The Tulou cluster, listed in the World Cultural Heritage, is represented by the double-ring circular Huaiyuan Building and the majestic square Hegui Building. They stand between the mountains and waters, attracting an endless stream of tourists every day with their unique architectural wisdom and artistic charm.
However, with fame comes the impact of commercialization. It is hoped that in the future, a better balance between development and protection can be achieved, allowing this World Heritage gem to regain its former tranquil and elegant demeanor. 🏠Overview of Fujian Earth Buildings
People from the Central Plains moved south to avoid wars, hence they settled and built earth buildings🍃The shape of the earth buildings
is not only round, there are round buildings, square buildings, and Wufeng buildings, each vertically representing a household
✅First floor kitchen✅Second floor granary✅Third floor and above for living and sleeping
The first and second floors have no windows, to prevent thieves and wild animals from climbing in
-
❓Time and attractions arrangement
Visit 2 scenic spots in one day, which are Tianluo Pit and Yunshui Ballad
If you visit Tianluo Pit first, stay overnight there; if you visit Yunshui Ballad first, stay overnight there
-
The reason for choosing these 2 places is that both scenic spots are well-developed with diverse dining and lodging options, there are plenty of related introductions, and they are quite famous. The two places are close to each other, so it's possible to arrange a 2-day and 1-night trip
-
🍜Dining and accommodation
Both Yunshui Ballad and Tianluo Pit have well-equipped restaurants and homestays. In other earth buildings, villagers cook their own food, suitable for individual travelers, and not every earth building offers guesthouses, most do not
-
📍Route A: Tianluo Pit
Four dishes and one soup - Viewing platform - Yuchang Building - Taxia Village
-
🏡We stayed one night in Tianluo Pit, the homestay was very nice

🌄Team building tips
1⃣I think Tianluo Pit is more worth seeing and has better value for money than Yunshui Ballad, which is more often visited by tour groups
-
2⃣Just randomly visit one of the key earth buildings to get a general idea, they are more or less the same, not much difference
-
3⃣Mostly mountain roads⛰ require walking, it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes, preferably with air cushions, so they won't be too uncomfortable
Fujian Tulou One-Day Tour
🌟 It is said that the Tulou has been the filming location for many movies and TV shows such as 'Where Are We Going, Dad?', 'Big Fish & Begonia', and even 'Journey to the West' has been here! Therefore, the Tulou tour was arranged.
🌟 Since it takes two hours to drive from Xiamen to the Tulou scenic area, I joined a small group tour for a one-day round trip.
🌟 Attractions visited: Nanjing Yunshuiyao (90r/person) + Yongding Tulou King (50r/person)
🌟 Tips: Be sure to choose good weather for the visit, the blue sky and white clouds really make for great photos! The overall itinerary is quite relaxed, mainly because the drive is quite long.
🌟 The main attractions in Yunshuiyao include Heguilou, Huaiyuanlou, water wheels, and banyan trees. The banyan trees are really beautiful, and their reflection in the water is stunning. The guide will introduce the main filming locations of 'Big Fish & Begonia'. The visit lasts 2.5-3.5 hours.
🌟 The main attractions of Tulou King include four Tulous. The guide will introduce the filming locations of 'Where Are We Going, Dad?'. Here you can take photos of the 'One Line Sky' formed by circular and square Tulous (p8). In Chengqi Lou, there is a fixed photo spot provided by the scenic area where you can take a complete overhead view for 20r, take it if you want. The visit lasts 1-2 hours
🌟 Common points of the two scenic areas: There are still some indigenous residents living inside the Tulous, who seem to be mostly elderly, so only the first floor of the Tulou is free to visit. If you want to go upstairs, you need to pay an additional fee, usually 10r. There are no toilets inside the Tulous, which suddenly reminded me of the old hutongs in Beijing. The commercialization is very well done, with various small shops on the first floor of the Tulou, but with the 'Made in Yiwu' products we have, why bother buying here, haha
🌟 Dressing guide: The Tulous have cobblestone roads, not smooth ones, so be sure to wear comfortable and safe sports shoes. I unfortunately sprained my ankle on the cobblestone road, and some people's high heels got stuck in it.
🌟 Conclusion: Overall, the Tulou is quite unique, and I would have regretted not coming. But because the overall style of the Tulous is very similar, at first, I found it quite unique, but after seeing more, I felt tired of it and probably won't come again.
Green trees merge at the edge of the village, and the blue mountains slant outside the city walls
Huaiyuan Building is a famous earth building within the Yunshui Ballad Scenic Area in Zhangzhou, with the first floor as the foundation, the second as the residence, and the third as the building. It is a dwelling where the Hakka people who migrated here during the Qing Dynasty lived together. The base is made of giant cobblestones, over 2 meters high, with the bottom wider than the top, rammed with earth. In the middle is the place for village meetings and teaching. Outside the building are open paddy fields and sunflower gardens, presenting a beautiful pastoral scenery.
Checked in at Yunshuiyao Ancient Town
As the lights begin to shine, the ancient houses, stone roads, and streams of Yunshuiyao gently fall asleep in the embrace of the night, sketching a picture of tranquility and serenity. Strolling on the ancient bridges of Yunshuiyao, with the cool breeze blowing, the night scene is dreamy and enchanting, immersing one in this beautiful scroll where nature and culture blend harmoniously.
Yunshuiyao Tulou Cluster
The Yunshuiyao Tulou Cluster is a historic ancient village, with the old town located in Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, Nanjing County, Zhangzhou, Fujian.
The Yunshuiyao Ancient Town is a historic ancient village, featuring secluded ancient paths, century-old banyan trees, magical earthen buildings, and the spiritual mountains and clear waters, all of which give people a transcendent feeling. The Changjiao Ancient Path in Nanjing County was historically the main thoroughfare of southwestern Fujian and has close ties with Taiwan. As early as the Ming Dynasty, the Jian family and other people from southwestern Fujian migrated to Taiwan. Due to the movie 'Yunshuiyao' winning the 26th Golden Rooster Awards and being filmed here, the Changjiao Ancient Path was renamed to 'Yunshuiyao' Ancient Path. Along the path, there are dozens of banyan trees over a hundred years old, graceful and lush, coexisting with the local simple and kind folk customs. Wandering the ancient path, one's heart becomes pure, feeling as if time has frozen here. The Yunshuiyao Scenic Area boasts the world cultural heritage 'Hegui Building' and other famous tulou clusters, millennium-old banyan tree groups, century-old streets, and thousand-year-old paths. Under the banyan trees, a cobblestone path polished smooth by countless footsteps stretches into the distance. It has been verified that this path was the essential route from Tingzhou Prefecture to Zhangzhou Prefecture. Alongside the path, there are old-style brick and wood structured houses, which are the old streets with hundreds of years of history in the ancient town. At the foot of the mountains, by the stream banks, and in the fields, there are scattered tulou buildings. These earthen buildings, which began construction in the mid-Yuan Dynasty, are well-preserved. These tulou buildings come in various forms, including stilted buildings, bamboo pole buildings, and mansion-style tulou, each offering a unique scenic view.

Yunshuiyao is not only famous for its earthen buildings but also for the largest banyan tree in Fujian Province
Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, originally named Changjiao Village, is a historic village with a long history. It was renamed Yunshuiyao Ancient Town because the popular movie 'Yunshuiyao' was filmed here. Both names, Changjiao Village and Yunshuiyao, exude a literary charm. Ancient trees and villages, gentle breezes on ancient paths, small bridges over flowing water, despite the hustle and bustle of visitors, this place seems to have its own barrier, bringing an instant power of tranquility to those who enter.
In the Yunshuiyao Ancient Town scenic area, besides the two World Cultural Heritage earthen buildings 'Hegui Building' and 'Huaiyuan Building', the ancient banyan tree group composed of more than a dozen century-old banyans is also not to be missed. Among these ancient banyan trees, the oldest is nearly seven hundred years old, each one flourishing with branches and strong roots.
Two of them are particularly noteworthy. One is located on the pebbles next to a stream, with a huge trunk and a canopy covering an area of 1933 square meters. The branches extend over 30 meters, and it takes more than ten adults to encircle the base of the trunk. It is the largest banyan tree in Fujian Province. Standing under the tree, one feels as tiny as an ant, with its sprawling roots resembling dragons, very sculptural. Another tree is so large that it takes three or four people to embrace it. Underneath the tree, people drink tea and eat, sitting in the cool breeze, watching the shadows of the tree sway, listening to the rustling sound, feeling incredibly relaxed.
Location: Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province

💡Coming out of Hegui Building around 10 a.m., Yunshuiyao scenic area welcomes its daily peak time. Many tourists choose the 'one-day tour', and the arrival time of such tour groups is roughly after 9 a.m. to around 10 a.m., and the departure time is usually in the afternoon and before dinner.
💡So if you stay in Yunshuiyao like us, you can choose the early morning and evening when there are fewer people. First, it won't be overcrowded everywhere, ruining the ambiance, and second, the light during these two periods is softer, which suits the style of Yunshuiyao.

The homestay has a whole yard where you can sing, dine, chat, and make tea around the stove. If you want to team build, this is also a good choice. For those of us who have been in the city for a long time, there is a natural healing power🍃
-
🏡
The interior of the homestay is mainly in log color, some room types have terraces, and the comfort of living is excellent. There is no discomfort of living in old houses, and it coexists harmoniously with the residents of the ancient town.
-
In addition to accommodation, this small courtyard in the mountains can hold small parties, Chinese afternoon tea, taste local mountain delicacies, just find the housekeeper to make a reservation~
-
🏡
There are a total of 9 rooms, and there are 2 buildings next to it, but they are not as good-looking as the main building. We booked a terrace room, with the courtyard and mountain view all around.
The view is very open, I really like the feeling of opening the curtains and the sun pouring in.
-
🏡Service
Breakfast is included in the stay, it is rich and nutritious, and you can only visit the scenery after eating.
You can contact the housekeeper for any accommodation needs
It's a bit cool in the mountains in the morning and evening, wear a thick coat when sitting outside
Zhangzhou | Things you only know after a round of Yunshui Yao
Sisters who are preparing to come to Yunshui Yao, big data pushes me to you!
It's not recommended to come and play during the Spring Festival, as you can expect a lot of people. In fact, Yunshui Yao is more suitable for off-peak travel. In the less touristy seasons, take a leisurely stroll around the village
-
💹 About tickets
✔ Village entrance ticket 90 yuan/person
✔ Separately charged Tulou Light Museum
✔ And Guizhou/Huaiyuan Building climbing 10 yuan/person
-
🚩3 core attractions:
🔻Near the main entrance of the scenic area: He Gui Building, square earth building
🔻The central area of the village: around the big water wheel
🔻Earth building landscape: double ring round earth building - Huaiyuan Building
-
🔹The neighboring Tianluokeng scenic area is also 90 yuan/person, but these two lines belong to different AB lines, don't get it wrong, Yunshui Yao buys a ticket to play this line of attractions
-
🅿Best self-driving!
Coming to Yunshui Yao several times, I still feel that self-driving is the most convenient, wherever you go
-
🏡Accommodation in Yunshui Yao
The accommodation in the scenic area is basically based on homestays. It is recommended to stay in Yunshui Yao for one night, to see the night view of the village and the morning time. Before 9 o'clock in the morning and after 7 o'clock in the evening, there are fewer people in the scenic area
-
I've been here several times, the pictures of the homestays we stayed in are ⬆
🍃Going out is the big banyan tree and the water wheel, not bad, there is a yard, you can make tea around the stove, you can sing, there is breakfast when you check in, it is convenient to go to any attractions
-
The roads in the ancient town are all cobblestone roads, even flat shoes can walk jio pain, you must wear good walking shoes, it is best to have a thicker sole, more resistant to walking

Zhangzhou tourism|Zhangzhou Tulou|Zhangzhou food|Fujian tourism|Xiamen surrounding tour|Zhangzhou accommodation
The name of Yunshuiyu is so poetic and fascinating. It comes from a TV series called Yunshuiyu. The name is Changjiao. Later, the tourism industry has changed the place name to the current place name, slowing down and enjoying life! Yunshui At the edge of the stream, the banyan tree group consisting of 13 centuries-old and thousand-year-old ancestors is spectacular. One of the old banyan tree canopies covers an area of 1933 square meters, and the tree rafts are more than 30 meters long. At the bottom of the trunk, more than 10 adults can hold it together. The largest eucalyptus tree that has been discovered in our province. Under the banyan tree, a cobblestone road that was very smooth on the road was stretched out into the distance. According to the research, it is the only way for Changting House (Longyan City) to lead to Zhangzhou Prefecture (Cangzhou City). If time is sufficient, I hope to quietly Enjoy a moment here. And after all, Im just a passer...
I always think that the most beautiful scenery is absolutely no commercial taste
original, original, hidden in small places that tourists do not know
not disturbed by the world, quiet, mysterious, incomparably pure, incomparable Its beautiful, in such a village that few people know, but it hides the worlds largest earth building.
