It was especially stunning at dusk. I only had time for an hour before it got dark. I recommend arriving before 3 PM and spending at least two hours there, entering and exiting from the South Gate. You need to return by boat by 4:30 PM, as the last ferry departs at 5 PM! If you don't have time to return, you can exit from the East Gate, although it's a bit further. (Climbing the pagoda on the mountain is optional; it's mainly for the river view, and there's not much to see on the mountain itself.)
