The striking Gothic spire at the center of the Edinburgh International Arts Festival is the commanding height of Edinburgh's urban area. The Royal Mile where it is located is one of the very lively tourist streets in the old city. Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace are both on this street. The Hub was designed by Edinburgh local architect James Gillespie Graham and the famous British Gothic Revival architect Augustus Pugin. Originally known as Victoria Hall when it was completed in 1845, it was transformed in 1995 to become the headquarters of the Edinburgh International Arts Society.
