I couldn't believe this much nature is in Tokyo.
It looks like there are three hiking trails to get to the summit. We took the chair lift first and walked the rest. It was the tough and proper hiking trail... You need proper walking or climbing shoe...
There are lots of trails and variations on the hiking courses of Mt Takao. I went on a fine mild winter’s day and had a great days walking. There is even a view of Mt Fuji from the summit.
Go early to avoid the crowds. I arrived at 6:45 am and there were no more than 3 or 4 other walkers. The toilet near the summit doesn't open until 9:00 am but I was at the summit by 8:00 am, and the t...
The total trip to Mt Takao was wonderful. Good to get out of the city for the day.
Well mapped and explained in both Japanese and English. Quite hard in parts but most of the roads are made. The waterfall was anticlimactic but the path was good steep hiking.
Would strongly recommend the Inariyama Trail or Trail 6 — the Biwa Waterfall Trail. The main trail (No. 1) seems to draw the crowds, even parties of school kids....

Well worth the day trip from Tokyo
