Nice hike up to the big boy tree of all, the Jomon Sugi. The trail is easy to do by yourselves because the trail is completely made out of wooden board walk. Okey, at some point there are many rocks but nothing difficult! I got lucky with the best weather possible and I needed 04:45 to get from the Arakawa trailhead start point to this massive tree. I think it would take more time when it's rainy. I took the bus from the start point close to the museum. Tickets can be purchased in the early morning (be there 20-30 minutes in advance) and can be paid cash but also with a credit card. On the way back you can make a hike up from the main road towards the Taiko Iwa rock view point. I guess it will take roughly 90 minutes extra, but the views are incredible, so take a bit more time :) If you take the early mountain bus, and you don't feel comfortable walking in the dark, take a headlight with you.
