#easytravelpost Cascade Canyon starts at the west shore of Jenny Lake (6,750 ft) in Grand Teton NP. I paid the 35 USD 7-day entry at the Moose-Wilson gate, parked at Jenny Lake East, and took the shuttle boat across at 08:15 — adult one-way 12 USD, round-trip 20 USD, cash or card at the East Dock, boats every 10–15 min, no reservation. From the west dock it's 0.5 mi to Hidden Falls, then the canyon trail turns up the mossy forest: Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir with moss on every root, Cascade Creek roaring 20 ft below, 11°C at 09:00. By 09:40 at 1.2 mi the moss was ankle-deep in the seep lines, a moose had crossed the creek upstream, and the canyon walls closed to 100 ft apart. I sat on a moss boulder at 10:00, ate a 10 USD trail bar, and watched a pika dart across the talus. Mistake: I wore trail runners and the creek-side moss was squelching by 09:30 — waterproof boots for the lower canyon even in August. Another: the last boat down is ~17:00; miss it and you walk 2.5 mi around Jenny Lake. Would you pay 12 USD for the Jenny Lake boat to save 2 mi and hit Cascade's mossy forest by 09:00, or hike the lake loop and start the canyon later?
