GGuest User: I spent 4 nights at Rooms at 31 whilst visiting family in the area. It is ideally situated within Stonehaven, a short walk to the seafront and a pleasant (but steep) walk to the war memorial and Dunottar Castle. Stonehaven itself has everything you might need for a short stay: places to eat, groceries etc. Rooms at 31 was clean and adequate for my needs. There were a few minor issues in the room which I have already contacted the owner about, but this did not adversely affect my stay. Breakfast is a self-serve affair with access to cereals, bread/toast, packaged morning goods, hot drinks and juice. The advantage of this set-up is that you can have breakfast at any time and it's not restricted to limited serving times as you would usually have in a B&B. It would have been useful to have had a mini fridge in the room, and access to a microwave, perhaps, for being able to heat food when eating out is not possible/desirable. It would also have been nice to feel that the breakfast room was usable outside of breakfast instead of feeling I needed to eat my takeaway in my room. Overall, I found the stay rather impersonal, not seeing anyone else for my entire stay, except for a very short encounter one morning in the breakfast room with whom I suspected may have been the owner. If I hadn't been visiting family, it would have been a rather lonely stay. This is not a fault, merely my preference. I can see how it would work well for businesses travellers or anyone who prefers the self-checkout in a supermarket and not dealing with other human beings!

Dunnottar Castle is one of Scotland’s most dramatic coastal landmarks, and the setting is just as impressive as the ruins themselves. Perched on a rocky headland above the North Sea, this medieval fortress is surrounded by cliffs and crashing waves, making the approach feel almost like entering another world. Located near Stonehaven on Scotland’s east coast, Dunnottar has a history stretching back centuries. The castle played an important role in Scotland’s past and famously protected the Scottish Crown Jewels from Oliver Cromwell’s army in the 17th century. The views are a huge part of the experience. From the cliffs, you can see the North Sea stretching into the distance, while the castle ruins create an incredible contrast against the rugged coastline. 📍 How to visit: Dunnottar Castle is about 3 km from Stonehaven. You can walk from the town along the scenic coastal path, or drive and park near the entrance. Be prepared for stairs and uneven paths, especially on the final approach to the castle. 💡 Tip: Go early in the morning or later in the afternoon for fewer people and beautiful coastal light. Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours to explore the castle and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Would you visit a castle this dramatic? 🏰🌊 #DunnottarCastle #ScotlandTravel #VisitScotland #ScottishCastles #Scotland #Stonehaven #CastleLovers #HistoricPlaces #EuropeTravel #ScenicScotland #TravelInspiration #travel

Aberdeen has such a quiet and serene beauty where the mountain meets the city. This quiet port city has a cute village and museums within walking distance. 20 minutes train journey from Aberdeen would take you to Village with Dunnottar Castle and the trails next to it reminded me of South of France with this blue water and beautiful nature. The village and the city have a beautiful blend of history and nature in it. Nice and friendly people and the beach is nice and beautiful too. I will be back to Aberdeen to explore more #travel2026 #scotland #thingstodo

🔝📸Sea mist, epic cliffs, and the brooding ruins of Dunnottar Castle—Stonehaven brings major Scotland drama! 🌊⛅️ Caught this moody scene on a rainy morning, just as low clouds brushed the ancient stone walls and the wild North Sea crashed below. The muted greens and grays make it feel like you’ve traveled back in time. No filter needed—the raw atmosphere is unreal and the view from the hiking path is truly one-of-a-kind. Tip: Wear sturdy shoes (it gets muddy!) and arrive right at 09:00 when Dunnottar Castle opens (Stonehaven AB39 2TL) for the most peaceful experience. Even in drizzle, this windswept coast is magic—just bring a waterproof jacket and soak up Scotland’s wild beauty. #Stonehaven #DunnottarCastle #ScotlandViews #OutdoorAdventure #Tripdotcom

I struck gold on my recent trip to the UK! Aberdeen is a city full of romance and surprises, and I can't let anyone miss out. Here's my travel guide for you~ Itinerary Day 1: I landed in Aberdeen in the morning and took a taxi straight to my hotel to drop off my luggage. After settling in, I walked to Old Aberdeen. It has a medieval feel, with ancient buildings lining the streets and colorful little houses that are perfect for photos. I spent about 3 hours exploring. Day 2: I took a taxi early in the morning to Dunnottar Castle to watch the sunrise. The castle's ruins evoke a sense of history, and the cliffs against the sea are breathtakingly beautiful. In the afternoon, I took the bus back to the city center and visited the Aberdeen Art Gallery, immersing myself in the world of art for about 2 hours. Day 3: In the morning, I took a train to Stonehaven to visit the fairytale-like Stonehaven Castle by the sea. I strolled along the beach, enjoying a pleasant afternoon for 3 hours. In the afternoon, I returned to Aberdeen to prepare for my departure. Highlights The sunrise at Dunnottar Castle was truly amazing! Standing on the castle perched on the cliff, bathed in golden sunlight, overlooking the vast sea, with waves crashing against the rocks, it was a spectacular sight I'll never forget! The streets of Old Aberdeen also have a unique charm. The ancient St. Machar's Cathedral is solemn and majestic, with colorful stained-glass windows shining in the sunlight. Food Recommendations You must visit the Silver Darling! It's located at Maritime Quay, a fantastic spot where you can dine while enjoying the sea view. Their seafood platter is a must-try. The crab, shrimp, and shellfish are incredibly fresh, bursting with the flavor of the ocean. The smoked salmon is also exquisite, with a delicate texture that melts in your mouth. The room was cozy, with comfortable bedding, ensuring a good night's sleep. The staff at the front desk were incredibly helpful and always available to assist with any questions.
