About Hefeng

Hefeng County is located in southwest Hubei Province in the southeast of Enshi Prefecture. Here, the traditional culture of the Tujia people predominates, and you will be intrigued by their folk culture and customs including special funereal and baishou (“hand-waving”) dances, liuzi drama, four-stage tea ceremonies (si dao cha), and nuo opera. When you visit Hefeng County's Pingshan Gorge, you can cruise the river on a boat and look up at the high, steep cliffs all around you with the stream winding through. The Duobi (“Hideaway”) Ravine is another natural attraction. The ravine is lined by towering cliffs on both sides for almost the full length of its 18 kilometers, a breathtaking sight. The air here is clean and the water clear. Forest covers much of the land, creating a natural oxygen bar that is a good place to relax and recharge.

Canyon
Pingshan Grand Canyon beautifully combines both natural scenery and historical relics. The topography here is precipitous, and the scenery unique. Towering cliffs jut up on all sides surrounded by streams. You can ride a tour boat to experience the scenery on both sides of the river. Successive Tusi kings built their seats of government in Pingshan. Today, ruins of these remain, and many precious artifacts have been unearthed here. Pingshan Grand Canyon maintains its original natural ecosystem. There is no urban bustle here, only a comfortable cool breeze in the summertime that makes it a great summer retreat.

National Park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the main attraction of Zhangjiajie. It is famous for its sandstone landforms, precarious peaks, limpid streams, dense forests, and large karst caves. More than 3,000 mountain peaks of various shapes are congregated here in the park, forming a spectacular scenery. The park was thrust into foreign travelers' eyes after the booming success of the movie “Avatar”, in which the Hallelujah Mountains were inspired by the Heavenly piller of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The main attractions in the park are Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Peak, Golden Whip Stream and Yellow Stone Village. The mountains have peculiar shapes, often surrounded by fog and mist giving visitors a view similar to the drawings of a traditional chinese painting.
