Kyoto was Japan’s ancient capital and remains the country’s cultural heart. Kimono-wearing locals are regularly seen around town. In the central city, visitors are drawn to Kyoto Tower, the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nishiki-Tenmangu Shrine, and Seimei Shrine. To the northeast in the famous Arashiyama area is Tenryu-ji temple and the glorious bamboo forest. This is a great place to view the cherry blossoms and the fall foliage. Finally, don’t miss Uji to the south, or beautiful Amanohashidate to the north.

Nur HaniWe thought this place was a little hyped up. It was so crowded with people taking photos that it was hard to enjoy the forest.

Nur HaniBeautiful castle! The contrast between the gold and dark wood is really striking and gardens are so vast and peaceful.

Yuna GenaLies perpendicular to the southern side of the busy Shijo Street, Hanami-koji Street attracts the visitors with its promising free meeting with Geisha and Maiko, one of few area in Japan where the culture of Geisha has been lasted for decades. I was told to come to this street at evening, to get a glimpse of Geisha and Maiko on their way to work. However, if you have a lot of fortune, I think it is better to appreciate the performance of Geisha in one of the old teahouses along the street.
