From the outside (scaffolding etc) we wondered what it would be like but we were pleasantly surprised.  We had booked a standard room which was clean and tidy with all the bits we needed, kettle, tea/coffee, hairdryer.  The staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.  Breakfast could be cereal with milk or yogurt, cooked breakfast, toast or croissant, big choice and all fresh and freshly cooked.  We had the cooked breakfast - WOW - lasted us all day.  The little town of Annan, all I can say is, if you don’t visit it, you will miss out on a treat. PS the scaffolding is for all the renovations which will improve the property.  We would love to return one day.

The Moat House is an expansive house which has been recently renovated, with large rooms and a very high standard of disabled/wheelchair facilities. It is the ideal location to explore Dumfries & Galloway, The Lake District, The Scottish Borders, Hadrians Wall Country and beyond by rail/car.HistoryThis large (400m2) property is located on the moat bank of an ancient Mott and Bailey castle that was once the home of the de Brus family, the ancestors of "Robert the Bruce" who was featured in the film "Braveheart". My trip , was disrupted before we even arrived at the hotel, we contacted Alison at the Village In to advise her we would be much later than expected and have to leave earlier than expected the next day. She was extremely accommodating and whent out of her way to assist and provide a very pleasant stay. I would definitely return next time I'm in the area.

Friends and relatives went out to play together. The net reviews were good. After checking in, I found that it was so. The breakfast is rich, suitable for bringing children, and the service attitude is good. The hotel can arrange paid parking.
