Millwood Lodge

This cottage was perfect. We had 4 families staying for a New Year's Eve break and the whole stay was great. The cottage was extremely clean and the perfect size with a large living room, dining area and kitchen. Each of the bedrooms were a good size all wit lh en-suit. The cottage was lovely and warm with the added benefit of a lift fire. The owner met us shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was OK and he was a pleasure to meet. Parking was more than ample for 4 cars plus the location was perfect for South Lakes, Windermere, and Barrow. A perfect stay and will definitely book this cottage again. We stayed at the lodge for 3 nights over new year with a group of friends and what a fantastic house this is. The hard work of the owners to turn derelict buildings into such a warm, comfortable and well appointed space is evident throughout. A personal warm welcome and flexibility on the leaving time on New Year’s day were much appreciated as was the kind gesture of a couple of bottles in the fridge for us. The weather wasn’t kind to us but the log fire already set up got us warm and cosy very quickly. I’d certainly recommend this place to any group looking for something a little different with easy access to the South Lakes and the Cumbrian coast.

Booked the cottage for our annual family get together. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need for a break away. It was great that everyone had their own en-suite. Having bedrooms downstairs was a bonus for the members of the group who find stairs difficult to climb. There are 2 steps up into the area where the 2 downstairs bedrooms are and 1 step down into the kitchen then 1 step down to the 3rd downstairs bedroom, which is described on the cottage listing. Also a great base to visit the various attractions within the Lakes area. We all enjoyed the cottage and area so much we have already booked for our visit next year. Also a lovely touch was the delicious cake left for us on our arrival.

We booked this cottage because we were led to believe there was a ground floor bedroom which was a stipulation for a family member. There was a step down to one of the bedrooms and two steps up to the other two bedrooms on the ground floor. Three more bedrooms upstairs all with en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen was missing some utensils and the oven was a true temperature. The sofas were not really comfy and wasn’t big enough for all ten of us to sit comfortably. There was no place to leave walking boots and wet coats and no mop for the floors. The cottage lacked tumbler glasses and pint glasses. Some of the rooms were extremely damp and had lots of condensation on the windows in the mornings. We did have a good time but we wouldn’t book it again.
